People who lie when selling cars!

getting really ****** off with people selling cars now!

last 2 weekends Iv traveld 2hrs/105 miles twice to view s3s!

1st one guy told me on phone nothing was wrong with it, could take it that day if wanted it etc!

so i traveled 2 hrs to go view this car, when i got there, car wouldnt start, traction control wasnt working properly, said I couldnt take it that day even if I wanted it, didnt have the v5 for it. so I walked away from that!

then this saturday, find a car on pistionheads, spoke to the guy said about how id been messed around and wanted to make sure car was as he said as didnt want to be messed around again. he proper asured me that every thing was totaly as he said, I wouldnt be wasting my time again etc

so I travel another 2 hrs, pay to get across the bridge into wales,

get to the car, and its filthly, and full of his things, all the wheels were scuffed, was obvious the rear quarter had been resprayed badly, so asked him, and he said oh must of been the old owner, it had older stickers on the bottoms of rear quaters which he said he had put it on, so he had obvisouly lied to me, as the side with the respray, the sticker had been laquared over! and the other side hadnt.

he said it had a remap, I asked for evidence and he didnt have any, I took it for a test drive and it was no faster than the totaly standard s3 I had driven.

there was also rust in the usal places, and then after the test drive, got out the car and heard this horrible sound, as looked closer it was the water pump making all this noise! looked under bonnet and you could tell if had been leaking around the area and covered in gunk to try cover it up!

guy was an idoit! on test drive he was over taking on corners aswell, not best way to show some one a car! so I just said i didnt want it, and he had the cheeck to ask why!

so £80 wasted just because people werent honest with me! so ****** off about it!

I took my bro to look at a car and when he said no the bloke took the huff and when we did 100 miles!? I wanted to go back but my bro insisted that I drove away.....some ejits about.

i hear you, few years back i phoned a guy (git) about a van. told me it was immaculate , i drove 120 miles met up with guy and the van had door cards missing, back full of crap, no paperwork, wires hangin out dash, still asked me if i wanted to deal, if he wasnt so young i would have wasted him there and then. ****!!!!!!!!!
 
Totally know where you are coming from Dan, unfortunately, with the market out there at the moment... to get a sale, you first need to get the buyer to come see the car, so there's going to be a few who tries it on, and in your case, you got caught out twice!
Good luck with your search anyways, there's plenty to choose from, and hopefully, your time and patience will reward with the right car that you are after.
 
I used the used car finder on the Audi website. If I am spending serious dosh on a car I want to make sure its proper. If Audi say its fine, and guarantee it, then that's good enough for me.

Not really - a guy bought a S3 8P and it turned out it had a bit of filler work on wing which audi had missed when they sold it himm...

I went 150 odd miles to get my A3 - guess i got lucky as the S3 looks very clean in the pic - its jsut bad luck you got caught out twice...

Hopefully, the next one should be right ! :D
 
I drove 4 hours to look at a very well specced 8P TDI Sport with full audi history.. When I got there the guy wasnt even in! So i rang him and he said he was called into work. Waited an hour for him to come home. Looking over the car he had neglected to take a photo of the rear quarter that featured a huge 10 inch dent. He also showed me the MOT cert which was done only that week, No probs with that but the rear tyres were bald!! Something fishy then? So i popped the boot and there were 2 nearly new tyres in it. The cheeky ****** had only gone and put the old ones back on after the MOT was issued!!! I checked the history and it had one stamp at 8k and nothing else since (It was on 64k) Full history? i could have knocked him out there and then as I had even hired a car for the day to go see it! :rolleyes:
 
i know how you feel, i went to look at a corsa sri turbo a few years back, it was a 03 plate with a 2.0 turbo conversion, looked nice in the pictures, but was a crock of ****, the airbag had been cut out of the dash and the flap glued down on dash, the power steering didnt work, the list was endless, i travelled 300 miles to vies it, and he wouldnt even let me drive it down the road, i felt like smashing the bloke in his face and steeling the car then burning it out down the road, lol
 
I could write a book on wasted journeys viewing **** cars so can 100%empathise with this.

I think a lot of the time some sellers are so incredibly stupid they truly believe that they have a `decent` car for sale and their idea of mint is very different to ours...

Two of my biggest wasted journeys were to specialist dealers, one was to see a `very low` mileage Impreza whose Service book was missing and the car was tatty, and the other was to see the scruffiest 12 month old Golf on the planet that looked like it had been used to transport incontinent pigs to market via the dodgems.

The Golf garage gave me my petrol money back, so fair play.
The SUBARU guy didnt offer me anything so..... I preteded was still interested in the car and as he foolishly agreed to an un-supervised `test drive`, I repaid his ignorance by taking it through a Speed camera.:)

My worst expereince was with a VW dealer, I deposited the car over the phone `subject to viewing` I turned up to collect the car a week later to find the car had a half ***** paint repair on the rear quarter, overspray on the window seals, and the plastics down one side were hanging off!, not to mention the various scratches/dings.

I agreed with the dealer to take the car away with the promise that a VW local to me would put the car right at their cost.

That never happened becasue when the V5 arrived, the 1 owner car I bought was in fact a 3 owner car!

After a call to VW Uk (who were very good) I was re-imbersd in full by the Dealer.

Its a jungle out there....

Ive been caught a few times like that but the one that got me was a few years ago now.

I was looking for a ford orion around 94 plate and when i was driving my truck up wellingbourgh i past one and it was mint.
So stoped and looked at the foe sale sign and phoned the guy, it took him a few min to get to me when he turned up looked in the right places and asked the right questions, and then he said it the thing they all say.

Tell me now if you want it cos theres some one else who called that wants it.

So we had a chat and he said leave him a deposit so he knows im not messing him around as i had to drive my truck back to south wales and go back with a car trailor to pick it up.........

Got back here and when i was ready to leave to go get it i phoned first but no answer so thought what the hell by the time i get there he should be there. so drove all the way there and the car was gone called the number againg and still no answer. So i knocked on a house where the car was parked by and the guy said yeah he lives round the corner, (( RELEAF )) pulled round the corner and saw the car and got out walked up the drive it was parked on knocked the door and the guy answered and said yes can i help you.

i thought ok may he dont remember so i said who i was and that i gave him a deposit for the car and he said no sorry dont know you and slammed the door i knocked and knocked but no answer so in the end i called the rossers:angrymod:
When they turned up told them what went on and to cut a long story short they came back and said, he said his car was never for sale and tha i didnt give him a deposit, i told them that didnt make sensce coz y else would i drive all the way up here from wales but with no witnessess to say i handed him cash i didnt have a leg to stand on

That will teach me to be to trusting again:keule:

What an Ar5ehole, shows how dishonest people can be for a few hundred quid! I personally would have torched his car there and then, then walk away denying everything....
 
Had this myself a few years ago when I wanted my Fiesta RS Turbo. Spoke to this guy on the phone for ages and while chatting pointed out that I had been in th eFord scene a long time and was well versed in building these cars. He told me everything was perfect.

I made the trek from Hertfordshire to Bridgend on;y to be greated by a pup. The never painted body looked like it had been painted by a drunk with a bike pump, the 200bhp engine was still on it's blue injectors and running about 12psi of boost (nearer 165bhp), the lips underneath had been crushed flat throught careless use of a trolley jack and he'd removed the cone filter telling me it wouldn't run very well with it on.

Needless to say I didn't buy it and the £3500 cash came back home in my glovebox. I was then accused of being a messer. Unfortunately I spoke to the guy who did buy it and it turned out to be a shed load worse than I thought.

Had a full blown row with the seeler on the website which when he lost every arguement he tried to make mysteriously got deleted and I just recieved thinnly veiled threats of violence.
 
I can sympathise mate ... spent the last two odd weeks looking for a new car with a mate and did up to 3 hour round trips just looking for standard unmolested cars to no avail ...

oddest being one with the word "doorgap" lightly etched into the rear quarter (obviously a clued up previous prospective buyer) and on closer inspection found the gap between the door and front wing on one side was almost tight so checked other areas to find it had been in an accident ...

also despite being told it was completely standard it was sitting on cheap lowering springs and had clear indicators put on so far from the unmolested car the fella kept insisting it was ...

so 3 odd hours and a fair bit of petrol later we were back where we started :keule:
 
However, to be fair, there are a lot of buyers who are just as bad. I was selling a 1995 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 in about 2003/4 I was looking for £2000 for it. It was booking at the time at about £2500 on its miles.

It had 85K on the clock, a full service history and was in reasonable nick for its age a parking dent here or there, but everything worked and it was clean, all the same colour and I'd had it 3 years so all the little electrical glitches were now sorted.The V6 ones had the lovely 2.5 litre bulletproof if loved engines in them. It had a full service history all stamped up and receipted.

I had 3 sets of people come see it. The first set looked at it for about 10 minutes, then offered £850.

The second set looked it over, asked how you opened the hatchback (its a saloon) then left complaining I hadn't made it clear it was a saloon, not a hatchback.

The third set arrived and gods honest truth, got a pair of trolley jacks out of their car, jacked it up and looked thoroughly at it inside and out. They even had the wheels off! Then test drive, lovely jubbly thinks I, they make happy noises, put my car back together, agree there is nothing at all wrong, then say they'd phone back later with an offer. I phoned them a week later, they said they'd decided against it because it only had 2 keys and they'd need to get another one cut!

The cheek.

Anyway, I chopped it in at a dealer for an Alfa 156, got £1750 as trade in value for it!

Shouldn't have wasted my time.

Private buyers are so often after a palace on wheels, no defects for no chips, no glitches, and all for nearly no money.

Sorry, I should add, I never buy private, I only ever sell private!
 
great thread, i have bought and sold around 40 cars in the last 5 years and have been lucky so far.
i have had many many asian people from birmingham and leeds trying to sell me cars that have been write offs but selling them as hpi clear but have always misplaced the hpi report when you ask to see it.
some are making alot of money ripping honest people off.
 
Interesting thread - I've sold a couple of cars in the past privately and have been as honest as possible in describing the condition. I actually think this attracts interest, because there's less for potential buyers to worry about when they decide to come and see the car.
 
Christ this is a mods only thread huh, lol, serious note now, yeah I hate people who waste your time saying car is this & you get there & its in totally ***** condition, I've sold some nice audis in past years & been pretty much honest what I know about them & the sales went very easily & smoothly, mainly cause of the honesty, no fecking about sales, but as I have said many a time, its becoming more & more prevalent that people have no CONSCIENCE at all anymore, quick buck is what people want, personally I would have to much of a guilt trip if I sold car with issues, just wouldnt do it full stop.
