    Brake Fluid

i had to search for the info and weed through a lot of chaffe to get to the nuts and bolts of it all. one camp say DOT 5 is a better fluid because it doesn't absorb moisture but that is based around the premis that you don't get moisture in the system in the first place. now you can check this...

    Brake Fluid

Chris you're right, it's not hygroscopic and i did get confused. because it doesn't absorb moisture any that gathers in the system falls to the lowest part of the system, usually the calliper. this is then easily boiled during normal braking causing the vapour lock hence the reason it should be...

    Brake Fluid

we had a look at fluids a while back when upgrading Clives front brakes, our conclusions where that Dot 5.1 was compatable with Dot 4. Dot 5.1 was basically the same as 4 but lighter to take advantage of increased speed of cycling the ABS pump when you lock a wheel up. since DOT 4 was the...

    What is this all about?

you can change the units from metric to imperial by holding the recirc button then pressing temp up, then when you use the diagnostic mode the MPH will read in miles per hour or so i believe

    Spacers and ebay

can you expand on this, i can't see any reference to coatings in the advert, i'd be interested to know what the coating is and why it's now illegal. in my opinion i'd rather go for a steel spacer because the weight of the car is sitting on the spigot, personally i wouldn't feel safe with all...

    S3 Alarm sensitivity

all Audis use the same sounder, it's loud enough, just not in the right place. the sound is muffled by all the cladding around it, i've moved mine to the same position as the wifes Passat, under the bonnet, 100% increase in noise. piece of cake to do, just cut the plug off and extend the wires...

Oil or coolant pump ? once engine switched off ?

the S3 must work differently to the S4 then, mine only comes on when it's really warm outside

    My a3 won't start :-(

if you were turning it over on the starter the oil light will flash as the pressure builds up and drops off with the rotation of the starter motor, perfectly normal. FYI a low oil level or indeed oil pressure wouldn't stop a car starting anyway. does the immobilisor light go out on the dash? if...

Oil or coolant pump ? once engine switched off ?

are you actually getting up to the temp that would cause the pump to kick in? i thought it was quite high. i've only heard mine come in when it's been really warm and that's with the afterrun pump mod so if you still have the standard sensor in there it might be working normally

    Heated mirrors

i'd agree with all the above and also, some models have a mirror switch that has a little heated symbol in the middle position between the L and R positions which turns the heaters in the mirrors on too

    Pick your Brains!!!!!!!!!!!

or a brake is seized, drive it for a few miles then walk round and feel the temp of the wheels, a hot one will indicate a seized brake

    Turn key .... nothing

could it have been the immobiliser kicking in?, they usually allow you to start the car for a moment before the engine dies. i've had it a couple of times where the coil hasn't read the transponder chip in the key, usually starts after removeing the key and having another go, if it happpens...

    Mot failure :(

if they've not got the three bolts back in the right place then that'd mean the position of the pivot point has changed. the wheel would be centering in a different position because the length of the steering rack was still the same

    Guess that noise again!

sounds like the inside surface of your rear discs could be corroded, they're hard to check because of the stone sheild.

    Tyres 225/45/17

anything but Pirellis. i think for road driving there's not much to chose from the popular brands these days. have a look at mytyres, they have a pretty comprehensive scoring system for tyres. something to watch for is the markings on the sidewall, there was a scare a while back about cheap...

Huge off on friday night!!My S3 is dead, lucky im not.

you're all missing the point here, the key is "appropriate speed". that might be 5mph, 50 or 100 depending on the conditions. just because the speed limit is 30 it doesn't mean you have to drive at 30, it may be "appropriate" to drive at 10 because of the road conditions. to lose control in such...

Huge off on friday night!!My S3 is dead, lucky im not.

as this is a discussion forum firstly i'd say everyone is entitled to offer an opinion and whilst you may not agree with that opinion there's no need for name calling. i don't think anyone is saying we have to drive around at 20mph, i like to get a move on when it's appropriate but it's...
