FIXED!. Thanks Andy (once again!) you were right. I took the multi block apart and pulled out the green connector, releasing the black insert, I found the green wire was pushed right back. I couldnt re seat it and pulling it out (despite using a pin to press the tang down) resulted in it...

Aha, that does explain a lot; like why the concert sounded so wheezy and the rns sounded SO much better with stacks more bass. Would not fixing it cause any issues do you think?. Does it affect the audio pilot thing? (i am not keen on that anyway)

Agree; sound wise the symphony unit is pretty good unless you are part of the max power cruzin' brigade!. RNS-E retrofit is definately the best way to go especially if you have double din. All parts available on ebay and will cost about £450 all in with all the adapters. Add another...

no, it wont. The changer may fit in with modification but the shapes of the gloveboxes are totally different

my K800 works fine although my Ipaq does the disconnect thing. Its worse when on battery (not charging)

i would say that it IS bose given what you say; I had an A3 with Bose and whilst the sound was ok, its not as good as an A4(b6) even non bose models.. I assume the bose signs are silver strips along the top of the speaker grilles rather than the badge like on the a4 range..?
