Project RS28

Well done very interesting build, i need to post my project up but i didnt do any in progress shots as it's taken me 3 years ! next month i'll post. I need to see what you're doing with the sideskirts as i have some original S4 skirts that i want to put on my car i was going to put the S4 lower trim on till i found out they were going to cost £300 ! deleting them sounds good. you tapped me about the PES charger didnt you ?

Thanks for the info mate! The vent looks ok. I think it looks much better red than it ever would do in carbon!

Yes mate, that was me chewing your ear.:)

Hoping to start mocking up the front bumper and sideskirts this week sometime, but after hobbling around for 2 days ive noticed my ankle is swolen, maybe sprained so have to keep the weight of for time being.

Your project sounds good mate, will be looking for it when you get it up.

So a few folk have said, it would stand out maybe too much in the carbon so wont be in a hurry to do it, leaving it for time being and will see how it turns out with the RS bumper fitted.

Well started on trial fitting the kit, started off with the RS front bumper.

Got old one off

And just got the bumper in position

There has already been quite a few hours put into the bumper prep and smoothing it, now it has to be adapted to fit the original bumper bar and some new side mounts as it doesnt have anything where original brackets sit, seems never ending but should look good when done.:keule:

Thanks Dave

Found there is 2 metal stand off brackets that are attached to the bumper, line up with slots on the bumper bar so i'll need to try mounting them and see how it sits. Ordered some Tiger Seal anyway just to be safe incase it needs it still:beerchug:

Hello Foxy. Any updates on your project? I have sprayed my Audi rings and quattro badge in Halfrauds aluminum now. Looks ace so thanks for that mate!

Hey Ollie, sorry mate, not touched it since trial fitting the bumper! Good news is i started a new job so the funds will be there soon to start buying parts again, downside is finding time to work on it, catch 22!:banghead:

Seen the pics of the rings, turned out nice mate, makes a big difference eh?

Will try getting my finger out next week, just so much to juggle at the min. Liking how yours is coming along, keep it up mate!:icon_thumright:

Turning into a bit of a wheel whore now Ollie!!!:lmfao:

Would look good on yours mate, get a set for winters n keep the twists for fair weather.

Ha Ha Its Geemans fault. I was never even remotely bothered about wheels untill about two months into Audi ownership, them I read the thread "new winter wheels". Since then I've had the standard sport alloys refurbed and re-coloured, bought some monos, AMG Mercedes Monos, some BBS LM originals, RS4 reps and obviously the Porkers. I even borrowed a set of BBS LM GT's for a few days to see what they look liked on the car (The BBS LM's were never fitted-but sold on for megs profit). Now I'm thinking about some RS4's in Anthracite, Bentley alloys or some 17" Porsche cup alloys that the RS2's came with. Was alwyas an engine man, but it's shifted slightly now........

Been working on the front bumper, mounting it onto the original bumper bar and getting it to sit right

DSC00298.jpg

Had to drill to gain access to the bolts from underneath, similar to oe RS4

DSC00299.jpg

DSC00300.jpg

Then started work on some custom brackets to mount the sides of the bumper. I wanted to use original mounting points as much as i could rather than just screwing the bumper to the wing. Used a roofing bracket to fabricate my own

DSC00304.jpg

First done, 2nd marked out

And in situ

Still got some fine tuning to get bumper sitting tight, then have to drill and tap the brackets.

Also started removing the rear bumper ready to trial fit the new one, but before that goes on i decided to do something with the exhaust aswell

S/s oval exhaust

Sanded and scored then 2 coats of etch primer
DSC00310.jpg

Then 2 coats of Satin black paint

Hopefully get time today to try it with new bumper.

Its coming along dude cant wait to see the end result, did you get round to pulling off those trims cheers gareth

Just caught up with this, you have done some great things! Cars going to look brilliant! Cant wait to see it put together!

Gareth-Sorry mate, still havent took them off yet, car is sat in the garage and the battery is goosed, wont hold charge so its a pita to get it started and move it out, just working on parts that i can without moving it just now, soon as i move it mate i'll do them, defo!

Sarah-Thanks, cant wait myself to see the kit etc getting fitted, seems like an eternity since i started and not the best person for patience, slow n steady wins the race....

Haa haa indeed it does. But like you I want it NOW lol!!

Im waiting to do the single S3 conversion on mine, driving me nuts waiting! Need the paint shop to get some free time!!!

Good luck with it though, looking good!

Starting to gather some cash for the paint needed for kit, should be in for it in a week or 2 now, FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the meantime when i aint been working my ar$e off, only managed to trial fit the S4 rear to see how exhaust lines up etc

Slight adjustment needed, has to come out about an inch and moved slightly as not sitting centre of cut out. Job for when its back on the road, with maybe new rear box and different tips appearing later on.

Ok, little update, have been looking at wheels for a while now and want something a bit different..........................

Hopefully i have found them, always loved these wheels and are very rare, especially on Audis, dont think ive seen any model with them yet.

Ive only managed to get 2, but know of another 2 thats for sale also and hopefully have them soon.

Im not saying wot they are yet as im taking a gamble in getting them and not 100% on fitting/clearence etc, but im pretty sure from the checks i have done. The unusual thing about them is they are staggered in a way, but not like normal as all the wheels are 8.5j, the difference is only the ET from front to rears, so will still work well with the Quattro.

So i'll be keeping you in suspenders for the time being, expect to have the first 2 by Tues next week.

UPDATE!!!!

Well i now have a new set off wheels in my posession, but theyre going for a powdercoat session and set of new tyres before i reveal them, might be a while at the rate i go though!!!!

Picked up a set of new pews for the front. Just been rebuilt and retrimmed in half leather with red alcantara, not fitted since. Will need some fabrication to fit(Feck.....more work!!!!) but will get them fitted somehow!!!!

Red stitching also

After seeing your thread on the new seats i thought i would update myself on the rest of your build.

Looks really good! and cant wait to see what the bumpers look like as ive been thinking of it myself, and as yours is the same colour it will show me what they will look like on mine.

Them seats look awsome, i want mine to be the same!

Thanks Sarah and Voigty, been at a standstill lately but starting to get the finger oot again!!!!

Also, think ive just bagged myself a genuine RS4 front bumper now, should have it by wkend, feel like my lucks in lately, few good buys for the car and hopefully the last of the expensive ones!!!!

That means the replica RS4 front will be up for sale probably.

ooooo how much you looking for it? I'm actully skint and am trying to gather everything together for a major service for my car as its due a cambelt change with all fluids being replaced etc.. but if its still around in a month or so pm me.

I defo want to tint my rear lights like yours but everything is on hold on the mod side of things untill i have done a major service and replaced anything that needs it.

Currently have changed disks pads and control arms but my exhaust seems to have worked it self loose as when setting off it rattles around abit.

I think its letting water in as it drips water but not sure why this is is?

Don't think its coolent as its not going down and there's no oil in coolent or coolent in the oil, abit stumped and don't think its condensation as its more of a constant drip, recently unclogged the drain under the battery.

Anyone have any ideas?

No rush to sell it mate so will probably still be lying there, pm me when you are after it. As for price, cost me £275 as bare unit, i then smoothed out the swage line, drilled the mounting points, made custom brackets, fitted new Cupra splitter, bought genuine RS4 grilles.......etc. Spent hours on it, and owes me £1,534,956.04 in labour that i spent on it.

I tend to be a bit anal when doing things, job worth doing and all that......

As for water leak, depends where its coming in? Usual suspect is drain under battery, but there is another on the other side. Check seals around any windows that have been replaced etc.

Lol, so would it be ready to bolt on then?

It's not coming into the car, it's coming out of the exhaust, i unclogged the hole under the battery but it must be making its way into the exhaust from aroun that area. I'm guessing this must be aound the downpipe turbo area but am no mechanic, just bought a haynes manual though so hopefully this should help.

Sorry if i don't make sense somtimes i'll blame the the beer for that.

Beer has a lot to answer for!!!

Yes mate, currently still on the front of my car when trial fitting it, had been tweeking the fit to eliminate any gaps etc with bonnet/wings, just needs the side mounts finished, plan on drilling them and tapping them out and using machined screws inside the arch of the bumper.

am loving your work, doing a red 2.8q project myself.is there room for another build thread?doubt mine will be as impressive as yours though!mine will be fully stripped out and caged, for the touring car look.looking into a v8 conversion as and when funds allow.nice to see a few red a4's turning up on here!if voigty doesnt want the front bumper,i'd be very interested

Cheers mate.

The more red ones, the better, theres a severe lack of us!!! lol

Seen the start of this on SRS, like the ideas mate, will be interested to see how it turns out. Was gonna go the stripped out route at first, but changed my mind and decided to go boring and comfy, no had stereos etc in last projects so covering all bases on this one.

The front bumper needs the side mounts drilled and tapped still, apart from that its all ready for a straight fit. Will get this done soon and let you guys know if your interested in it, kinda gutted to sell it after the work thats went into it, but picked up a genuine RS4 bumper yesterday and cant use 2!

my mrs helped me decide on the stripped out theme.she likes climate control and nice ice.so thats all going!!
wont the rs4 bumper cause you alot of trimming to fit?maybe keep looking for some rs4 wings?

still very interested in the bumper, btw!

Yep, the RS4 bumper does need quite a bit of trimming, heating and bending im led to believe, but i do love a challenge! Problem is, i always start thinking things like, get the wings to suit etc, then it'll end up with rears and full widebody, its meant to be a kinda budget build car but all my projects start like that! Must RESIST!!!!!!

Nah, definately not widebodying a 2.8, lot of pounds lost in that, although i do love a fat saloon A4!

If your really interested in the bumper mate, pm me and we can arrange it if its helping with your project.

Quick update at last......

Been really busy with work etc etc, usual stuff, but........managed to get some paint quotes for the kit and got an excellent bodyshop doing the work. Arranged to start it in around a fortnights time, so will be getting picked up then. In the meantime i need to sort a battery to get it driving, and i'll get some pics of some of the latest buys soon.

More to follow........

Some of the most recent buys that i havent had time to upload

New rear spoiler

DSC00372.jpg

And recently picked up a genuine RS4 front bumper which will require quite a bit of work to get fitted, but will be worth it
DSC00373.jpg

Has a couple of battle scars but is getting plastic welded when getting shrunk to fit my slim body! Ooerr missus!
DSC00374.jpg

Havent touched or looked at the Audi in ages, but seeing as its going for the paint soon(next week) i'll start making more time to work on it again, more carbon, new bushes(for track use), trial fitting of custom wheels etc to follow in the next weeks/months.

looking good, nice to get the paint on, then the work begins lol....

Ha, tell me bout it! Never understood people when i was younger and hearing "time is precious" etc etc, do now thou, cant get a fecking minute to do anything for myself....or Audi!

Spoke with the automotive surgeon yesterday, car is being collected next Wed so he can make a start on it, hopefully wont be in too long, then when i get it back im starting on custom mounting the new Recaros! Tick tock, tick tock! lol.
