As per the title- I'm looking for a step by step guide to vinyl wrapping chrome window trim- has anyone on here done it and been pleased with the results?

A friend of mine did mine for me he has done a great job but he said it was a pig of a job. Mine is an avant so rear windows are really difficult its not perfect (sorry Phill if your reading this ) but to be honest thats probably me just being anal ! It certainly looks 100% better than my milky chrome trim did so I am happy no guide though I think best way is buy some vinyl and have a go ?

I did all mine using 3M Di-Noc carbon fibre film.

Dead easy really. Cut to 'oversize', peal backing, apply, trim edges......have a cuppa.

Did you heat and stretch around the curved bits or did you just cut out of a large sheet?

I did this with the BMW shadowline stuff. Quite easy really. Just make sure you do it on a nice warm day and the stuff is easy to shape around the contours. I bought the 3" wide stuff, cut it in half, and used the sharp straight edge of the vinyl on the edges that are close to the paintwork (i.e. bottom edge of the window trims) so I didn't have to cut that edge, only the top edge. I hope you get what I mean.

There is no real need for a DIY, as everyone will have there own way of doing it. All I can say is take your time, and be prepared to do sections over and over to get it right.

its easy been an avant dont make it any harder 1st 1 i did was perfect and took less than an hour
now half hours work simple

What do you do where there is rubber gasket tightly overlapping the chrome on the fixed side rear window? Do you simply cut the vinyl as tight as possible to the rubber or do you try to prise the rubber up and get the edgevof the vinyl under it?

Where can I get the vinyl tape? Is there a gloss black version.

or cut close either way looks good

Looked on eBay, but could only see sheets- did you buy a sheet and cut into strips?
