Which one is the best at the moment ?
Thanks

I've heard good things about PocketGPSWorld, but I use TomTom for iPhone with the camera database which has been fine, although sometimes alerts for cameras that aren't still there.

I also have a Beltronics Driver STI which detects Gatso's and police radar and laser guns, but you really need a laser jamming system to protect yourself completely.

I have a snooper s5 works great.

speed cameras = big yellow boxes
police with guns = yellow florescent jackets
portable vans = big white van with a HUGE camera sign on them
police on the side of the road = marked police car

do you really need to waste money on something your eyes can do lol

The wife. Running costs are rather steep and it does require constant maintenance and servicing but the audible warning given out is unmissable. lol

when driving at high speeds on private land, it may be wise to have a detector as you cant always be looking around you in that fashion, i normally watch the road and the other people using it rather than who is parked up or hiding on the side of it,

I use a TomTom XL Europe as a routing device and load the Pocket GPS World database for the cameras. It always very up-to-date and works well. TomTom's own camera database is usually out of date.

Whilst I do agree with you in principal, there's no requirement to wear a yellow flourescent when operating a laser gun, only for the copper stopping the car ;)

Also unmarked cars using laser guns and mobile speed camera's can be pretty hard to spot.

In the UK this is true but in France, which I shall be driving through in a couple of weeks, the speed cameras are the same colour as the Armco barriers, the police tend not to where reflective jackets and the speed trap vans are painted dark blue with no indication that they are speed camera vans.

But my TomTom/Pocket GPS database combination will still beep whenever I am approaching a fixed speed camera or a site regularly used by the vans. It will also give me a very easy to read display of my speed in km/hr and the speed limit for the road I an on. As well of course as giving me the directions to where I'm going. Worth every penny, especially on unfamiliar roads.

I'm sure you already know this, but they're big time illegal in France, and if they see you and spot it then it will get confiscated with a fine. I don't know whether they can determine whether a sat nav has it fitted or not?

Radar detection devises are Illegal in France but as yet GPS based ones are OK.

The French Government are considering making GPS ones illegal and also removing all the signs for speed cameras but they have not done so yet. Quite how they will police a system that allows you to use a GPS for route finding where you are not allowed to have a speed camera database on the same device I don't know. Just about every car on the road these days has a GPS device. Are they going to stop every car and check for a speed camera database.

If they do become illegal all the camera locations are still shown on the Michelin maps of France.

Personally I only ever encountered a few sites because I just drive across France on the AutoRoutes to get to Southern Germany. There are one or two around Calais and again around Reims and that's about it. Currently in France if there is a speed camera sign it means there is a speed camera coming up unlike in the UK where we spread Speed Camera signs around like confetti.

Interestingly, according to the Pocket GPS database, in the UK there are 9091 fixed cameras + 383 specs. In France there are 2353 fixed cameras + 2 specs and in Germany 151 fixed cameras and no specs.

iv run with Beltronics for the last 10 years. They tell you which Gastros are on and which ones are dummy's, it also tells you which ones are active on the M1 and M25 in the over lane set ups,

I have a couple Beltronics Driver STI's for sale, brand new and never opened. PM me if anyone's interested! :sign_plug:
