Whiter Headlight Bulbs? PIAA Xtreme White?

Well Ive got halogen headlights, and Ive always kind of thought that they were a bit yellow! Ive been trying to make my mind up whether its worth changing the bulbs, because, I dont want it to look at all chavvy! And you see so many cars that just look crap purely because of the wannabe xenon type bulbs they put in! All I want is a crisper, whiter bulb! No bluey look..

Has anyone used the PIAA Xtreme White bulbs before? Are they any good? Pictures would be great if you can

I had PIAA Extreme White on my previous car, before I fitted BiXenons to it and to be very honest with you they're not really worth the money at all. They are slightly less yellow than the standard Halogens, but I was SO disappointed with them. They're certainly not worth the + or - £56 RRP. I paid £35 for a set of Phillips Diamond Vision bulbs and they were a perfect match for the Xenon lights I fitted later on. Sorry I don't have a pic of the Extreme Whites any more, but here is a pic the Diamond Visions on my last car. They were my main beams, on the outside of the Xenons and as you can see they were pure white, rated to 5000K, so not blue in the slightest. I did heaps of research on bulbs and these Phillips ones were the best I have come across and much better than the PIAA's value wise. Again, sorry it's not a pic of the bulbs fitted to an Audi, lol.

EDIT I had a look and managed to find you a pic of the PIAA Extreme White bulbs fitted to my old car, when I still had my Halogen lights. They are an improvement on standard, but still quite yellow and IMO really not worth the money.

I use Philips Xtreme Power bulbs. Cost about £20 and I can't fault them. Huge improvement over standard bulbs and I can't detect any yellow in the light when paired up with a good set of side lights (I use Philips Blue Vision sides - the bulb is blue but the light emitted is white with no blue hint).

Philips have also released a new version of the xtreme power I think, which are a bit more brighter.

Wouldnt that cost me about £2k.. with the DRL's? I dont plan on the keeping the car long enough to warrant spending that, Id just spend that sort of money on putting it towards a faster one.. with DRLS + Xenons

Oh thankyou for your reply. Dont worry about it not being an A3, I love VXR's anyway, but the insurance companies dont want me to have one! So, you reckon the Philips Diamond Vision are better value than the PIAA Xtreme White's?

Out of interest, what was it like going from a VXR to an S3?

You're very welcome, Buddy . I'd say that the Phillips bulbs are much better value than the PIAA's any day and much whiter (without any chavvy blue tinge). I'd never spend money on PIAA Extreme Whites again.

I swapped my Stage 3 + (315bhp) VXR for an S3, because a spinal injury meant I was getting very limited use out of my Astra (7K miles in 2 and a half years), so I needed a car with a DSG box, but still with plenty shift in it. My S3 is already more powerful than my VXR, but it is much less frantic. The VXR was a white knuckle ride and it never failed to get my palms sweaty, lol. The S3 is a much more relaxed drive and it doesn't demand to be driven eveywhere at breakneck speed, lol.

I've got the Phillips they won a recent halogen bulb test. Obviously OEM Xenons are best but they cost silly money.

Just fitted the PIAA extreme whites and I was gutted how S*it they were!! Never ever again! will look more closely here next time. Go for anything but!!

Just to add also about PIAA poor performance; I bought some PIAA extra white (or something like that) sidelight bulbs, the W5W capless ones, they weren't cheap over £10. They are a whiter light than the average capless sidelight bulb but they as so dim you can hardly see them!! Not recommended. On my old A3 I bought some bright LED sidelights with CANBUS resistors in, they were much better and similar money.

I bought the PIAA Extreme White W5W's too, to go with the H7's and H1's and as c_w says, they were absolute pants for the money. They are actually on in the second pic I posted above, not that you can see them, lol. I paid over £100 in all for the three pairs of bulbs and was totally gutted with the only slight improvement over standard Halogens. You'd think I would have learnt, but then I paid £95 for a pair of PIAA Hyper Tera Euro LED W5W's (pictured in the 1st pic above) and although they were lovely and white as you would expect, I didn't realise at the time that I could get a pair of LED bulbs with resistors in for around £10. I'm not touching the bulbs on the car I have now, ..not ever lol.

Glad I'm not the only one who wasn't at all impressed with the PIAA W5W bulbs. They were a total waste of money. My Fleabay £9 LED ones are much better.

I didn't want to write up how cr*p they were as others were reporting how good PIAA were at the time & I thought I must have just got a duff set. It would have stopped you guys wasting your cash like I did though...

I know Dude, I know, ..must have been total nuts at the time, lol. They've come down in price slightly since I bought mine, ..they're £92.27 with free delivery now. Never again, ..my other half has the 'parental lock' activated, so whenever a PIAA site is flagged up on the computer, the page gets blocked straight away, ..in fact, I think I can hear the net police arriving outside as I type this, lol. :busted_cop:
