Hi all,

I want to get a new exhaust system that gives my car a deeper note.

My car is a 2.0 TDI - is there any systems on the market that are able to do this with great effect?

Would I need a full new system or just a new backbox?

I was thinking of getting a Miltek but I'm not the most informed guy when it comes to exhausts so opinion/comments much appreciated!

Jack

I haven't got one, but Milltek is meant to be a great improvement even for 2.0TDI.

Hello JackJ,
I had a turbo back Milltek on my 2.0 TDI and they do sound amazing for a diesel. (Petrol like sound under acceleration)
I can get you a turbo back exhaust (non res) for £606.50
Cat back non res £409.21

I hope that helps

Thanks
Hassan

Thanks for the input mate - what would be best for a more deeper note - res or non-res? Obviously there is quite a big difference between the 2 in terms of price, can you advise please?

Many thanks!

Hello there!
The non res system will be the deeper out of the both,
I hope that helps.

Thanks
Hassan

Hi Hassan,

Thanks - could you send me a link to the system and also some images so I know exactly what I'd be getting?

Cheers,

Jack

I personally think miltek are overrated. I just got rid of my back box and put a tip on it for £90 and it sounds amazing and turbo spool is awesome

Yeah I've just been reading up and it seems a lot of people are saying this about Millteks which is putting me off. I think I need to reconsider my options perhaps, just want the car to have a deeper note - any alternative idea's to Milltek?

Does getting rid of the back box still keep it legal for mot,s etc also do you still keep the power with no dpf issues?
Was it done at a local exhaust center.

Yes my car is 100% legal and passed it's MOT with flying colours.

At the end of the day it's a diesel and it doesnt need a miltek.

I went to my local exhaust centre and he put the car on the lift and I just said get rid of tht silly looking box and I chose a tip to go on it which I thought would look nice on the rear. I told him where exactly I wanted the tip to be such as how high and how far it sticks out etc. An Hour and a half and £90 later I put my foot down and I instantly got addicted putting my foot down everywhere (all on private roads of course)

Don't pay more thn £150.

Thanks for the input mate - certainly gave me a lot of food for thought here!

I had a Milltek on a my old Leon FR, it had a DPF as do the newer Audis, and it seriously dampens the sound! Biggest waste of money on a diesel, as said, just cut the back box off :)

Need some more pics of your car pal, rear looks lovely.

Are you on springs or coilovers?

Agreed, rear looks awesome - where did you get your S3 rear from? I want one for mine!!

That rear cut down plate looks good, where did you get that from? I fancy one for my private plate. You got one on the front as well?

Cheers :)

Do you get any performance gains from removing the backbox?

The backbox is more restrictive on diesels apparently?

Sorry for the late reply been working all day finished at 8 and just finished cleaning the car for VW festival tomorrow haha

Im from stockton buddy i can come to you on monday if you like? as its a bit late now and tomorrow im at VW festival.

Also discount Exhausts near the zetland carpark you can also take your own exhaust tip down and he will put that on instead of one of there own and it also knocks off £20-30

Diffuser, a guy off vagoc sold me it and the lower bumper i got from a friend at TPS.

I just cut it down myself haha I think you can get them from ebay though but im guessing he just does the same thing :p

I dont have one on the front as it has a recess for the plate and it leaves empty squares at the side which put me off.

Yes you do but nothing noticeable haha

Im not sure why it would be more restrictive on diesels but it is restrictive

Put it this way if your only doing this for power dont do it :p

I had it done because my rear was hideous with the s3 diffuser and standard exhaust as it sat too far back and i wanted it to roar :)

Today (Sunday) would have been an ideal day for a meet up mate! Won't be free till about 6pm tomorrow :(

Im afraid this thread desperately needs a video with sound! I had a non-res miltek on my TT (petrol) and it sounded lovely. I have never been in or heard a TDI with a different exhaust though so would be very keen to hear what yours sounds like with the no back box mod! I just cant imagine it sounding anything other than louder Transit van noise? :)

Changing the subject slightly, will the lower rear valence (and then diffuser) fit my A3, or are the pre/post facelift upper bumpers different? I really want an S line or S3 lower valance on mine :(

I wonder if cars with DPFs in sound as deep?
My car has just past its warranty so may look into to do this for so cheap price :)

ok really noob question here but i am useless with mechanics so someone help me out here and tell me if i dont need the back box on my 2.0 TDi what is it there for? i have a 140 with no DPF.

Good news buddy!!

Sorry to ask but what exactly is a jet screamer :p

I have a Golf mk5 tdi with the Milltek turbo back and it sounds awesome under acceleration! I'd be interested to hear one without the backbox.. Get a video up! :)
