I am interested in buying a 2006 1.6 petrol A3. Anybody with a 1.6 how do you find the running costs? Fuel, servicing etc? Its done 68000 miles and serviced april just gone.

thanks for any info and advice.

I think the 1.6 is economical to run from what I have read on here. Fran A3 is your man on here as he has one....

i was thinking the same thing when i hovered over this post fran is your 1.6 man

i've got a 1.6, my advice would be to get a different engine, mainly as due to the fuel consumption i average 35mpg driving like a normal person. if im late for work it will be a little less than that.

should of got a tdi of tfsi!

If you are gonna be doing alot of miles I'd consider a diesel to be honest....maybe not what you want to hear! Just sold my 2006 1.6 petrol and with a 2006 you'd wanna be sure the cam belt and water pump have been changed or this will be extra cost for you.
In terms of fuel consumption, I found it to be a thirsty car...with motorway driving (120-130kmph ish) I found it hard to get any better than 28-30mpg. Normal driving was getting me about 38mpg (with pretty conservative driving, by my standards!).
Lovely car to drive tho....solid on the road and very reliable in my experience!

I was considering the 1.6! Thought it'd be hard on fuel though? As said, if your gonna do a lot of miles a diesel would be more efficient.

1.6 seems to be a bit of a waste of time engine IMO. Not that different economy to the TFSI but far less performance. If your suffering a 'slower' engine, may as well make it a TDI and get some proper economy as a consolation!?

feeling the love here gents :) , if your going to get a 1.6 get the fsi engine its very eco mine does 45+ daily can post pics if you don't believe me too lol , the normal 1.6 is ****e compared to the 1.6fsi , the fsi is more powerful plus its more eco, less tax plus its a 6 speed too than the normal 1.6 , insurance wise i only pay £500 per year fully comp but i am 30 so i expect it to be cheaper than most , if you after power go for a bigger engine but for a good in between car 1.6fsi ftw !!

i drive down country lanes to work and get 47mpg if i am on the motor way i can get 60 mpg doing about 80mph.

it is 1.6 fsi! i dont really do a lot of miles. Put it this way, from one MOT from one year to the next i did 3500 miles last year. However i have a new job which is a little bit further but mostly 60 all the way. And im not really that bothered by performance, more interested in looks and reliability :) hmmmmmmmm do i or dont?!?!?!!

Do it!

Buy a good 'un and you'll be smiling for a while.

Although if the mod bug bites mpg will be irrelevant! ;)

Hahaha, better not get a 3.2 then! I've seen my mpg only just breaking into the double figures at times but that was driving VERY briskly lol! On average I get about 260 miles out of a £65 tankfull.

£837 on routine stuff on a fixed service today.. love running costs of an Audi :)

there you go took it today on the way to work

If you do less than 3500 miles a year get 3.2 as othe suggested;)

I very often see figures of 17-18 mpg but at least I do my 3500 miles with a bit of excitement. Around 250 miles of 70 quid tank(vpower).

Insurance wise i pay 800 a year, but 25y old and have 6 points for speeding.

haha a 3.2!!!!!!!! insurance wouldn't even consider me at my age. well it was serviced in april so hopefully that wont need to be done any time soon! :D

yeah i know 30 mph normal + 30mph from the flat 45digree angled roads = 60mph

only playing a women i work with has an 8p3 1.6 ( not sure what one ) and she dose 6k a year an complains about the mpg

i run mine on super unleaded it gives cleaner running and more mpg about 7mpg more average i think it is but audi recommend i run it on super unleaded it even says so inside the filler cap

ill pass it on mate. i use normal asda devil juice £1.36. tried v power derv it was no diff ohh apart from the ****** price

The 1.6 FSI is of course the 1.6 of choice, but depending on budget I'd personally try to stretch to a blown petrol motor. The 1.8T and 2.0T are highly rated and offer a fuller sense of the "downsized premium" A3 experience.

I appreciate it's possibly more to do with availability and budget, but bear in mind that running costs for things like tyres, servicing, tax and even fuel and insurance aren't that far apart.

I do 7-8k miles per year in an S3. For what it's worth - I'm paying about £1,500 in fuel costs, £400 insurance (31 years old, 10 years NCB) and little else apart from tyres due to having 2 years of inclusive servicing and warranty left.

£400 on insurance thats amazing. the only think i wish i would have spent a bit more on a quattro but i paid for may car dont owe anything to anyone

it doesn't work right away the car has to learn to run on super unleaded for the mpg to go up

well you have double the engine matey would love a 3.2 but sure wouldn't be able to afford the fuel bill every week lol

I don't go far day to day so it's worth it.

If I did a fair few miles every week, I don't think I'd have got the 3.2 lol

haha yeah thats true mate , i don't do mega miles every week but often i go up to the brecons beacons and north wales mountain hiking we nearly always take my car because its better on fuel lol

I think when someone asks running costs, they should factor in the cost of mods per year aswell, cause that plays a huge factor when being a member of this site at minimum :)

One thing that lets it down is the fuel consumption, I've been getting around 32-35mpg recently, sometimes I can see 40mpg on a long run. If your not doing many miles then fuel costs shouldn't be a huge issue. I do around 15K a year and sometimes wish I had gone with a derv for better fuel economy

Overall its a good solid engine though. I've had no bother with mine, touch wood!

As nigel said, remember to factor in your modifications cost. This site will empty your wallet!

Wish I thought of that! Lol
