S3 Car Insurance!

Well i just got a quote for £1500 on a 210bhp s3 with my mrs on, shes 2years younger than me, and when taking her off went down to £1100, im 24 with 4yrs ncb. I think area has a big part to play. Also really do make sure you read the fine print when buying from a compare site, they have hidden charges if you ever do have a crash, my brother had a woman write his car off, she paid out but the insurance still cancelled his policy and took the remainder of the money owed for the rest of his policy from his pay out. I also hate ipads lol

Iv been with direct line with both of my vehicles for the last couple years and no one could really touch their prices. I'm 24 with 1 yrs ncb and I pay £746 all mods declared and with my girlfriend on the insurance which bumped it up a bit. Not too bad, which is mainly because where I live is a really low risk area.

iv just checked as mine is up for renewal around febuary, and its dropped down to just under £600 with admiral. Thats just with an initial check on confused.com

Top tip - search for your renewal quote in advance as its cheaper! Many companies are infact brokers (I work for a big brand) and search a panel of insurers to get the best quote within your demands and needs. My insurance is just under £1600 but I'm 21 no ncd, with 2 named drivers. Check your mileage, (4000 seems to be the golden point) check your marital status, occupation is a big factor!! Play with the occupation to see which option suits you best and is cheaper! Are you a homeowner? ( that can reduce your premium) do you use another vehicle? ( that can too) and how long have you had your car since (this is basically driving experience in that car). That's just some things we look for to bring premiums down. Hope that helps.

Btw - confused.com is owned by the admiral group! Go to comparethemarket.com and get a meerkat! I got one for Xmas from work :)

That's some good info, maybe as your an inside man you should do a list of things that will help.

Sky insurance, will try that.. What area do you live in? As west londons insurance premiums are crazy...
im 27 with 2 years no claims and mines just shy of £900 with More-Than and ive only had the policy 2 months so should still be at that price? insurance is all about a postcode lottery im affraid, back when i had my 330ci my insurance changed by 650 quid just by moving house!!!!! lol

im paying £720 fully comp on my s3 being 21 and 3 years ncb now i feel a bit better about it. i find that adding 2 people with a long, clean driving history helps a lot! Thats using admiral with a multi car discount. Argue any renewal increase usually works.

I guted now, you guys seems to be paying peanuts compare to us London drivers...

I need to move out into the country...

Will try comparedthemarket.com now...

Because renewal quotes usually do take the ****...

This really, not one year has my automated renewal quote has been cheaper than the premium I paid previously. After a few phone calls, I got my insurance down to the exact same price I paid the year before to the penny! Should be more next year based on what everyone is experiencing with the price hikes!

Its a case of "you do not have to do anything to continue your cover", so if 3 in 5 people forget about the renewal they will be onto a winner....
Worse then Bankers....hoooooo yes...:)

Will get all my info written up tomorrow to help some of you guys with your quotes. Hopefully you'll benefit.

A few insurers who used to be cheap are now whacking their prices up because they can.

Before getting my S3 last month i had an Imported Starlet Turbo, was insured with Swinton - £760 for the year which i found perfectly fine (29 years old 9 years no claims, no points, accidents etc) as we were living in a fairly bad postcode at the time and the car had a lot of mods and no other insurer could get close to their prices, plus there was a cash back offer as well.

However after having the policy about 3 months we moved to a much better postcode and the car was parked off road as well and the price went UP an extra £560! for the year on top of the original £760 id already paid (god knows how much it would have gone up had we moved sooner!) the insurers response to this was that my new address was more of a risk..........erm FY2 worse than FY1 i think not!........total price for the year £1300+ i was livid!!

So i started hunting around and used money supermarket and got an S3 insured for £780 for a whole year, and its newer, worth more, faster, got more kit etc etc.

Im sure renewal time won't be nice come the end of the year but hey.

Before cancelling my old policy i rang up Swinton and asked what id have to pay to insure an S3 and they wanted £1700! so they clearly didn't want my business despite my record.

In the past I've never been one to use comparison sites (as my car wouldn't show up) but now it will i have to say it saved me a lot of time not ringing every company up.

Ok so a few pointers when looking at your insurance...

General insurance - Many companies are Underwritten by insurers, some companies are underwritten by many insurers making them brokers eg, Lloyds TSB or Halifax ETC.. So when looking through quotes check the underwritter.

Renewal - Keep in mind when your renewal date is due, as looking in advance on comparison websites can save you up to £150. Rates change constantly so if you save a quote on the 1st jan for the 30th it might be £500 whereas if you look for quotes on the 17th for the 30th it could be £600.. so planning ahead can save you lots (I did this for S3 Rav and he found cheaper rates in advance)

Fresh quotes - comparison websites look through different companies or brokers who give you the best price within your demands and needs. When inputting your data check a few things such as

Marital status - Saying your single can increase your risk, If your married then it may reduce your premium especially if you add your Mrs to your policy can reduce your premium drastically. If your partnered or co-habiting it can also reduce the risk and premium so play with your options.

Use of another Vehicle/ home owner - This can reduce the risk of your policy simply because you have driving experience of another car/ you own a home which shows your financially stable (somehow) therefore reducing your risk.

Occupation - this Really does matter... Your occupation (no matter how professional) can really affect your premium. Saying your a chef can increase your risk.. If your an cook however can reduce that risk. think of the many options that relate to your job title and see the price difference. If neccesary go back and chose a different occupation to see the premium change.

Claims and convictions - dont lie! Lots and lots of companies use the CUE system which is the Claims underwriting exchange. Its a database of claims youve had and they check this often.

Car purchase date - the longer you've had your car, the more experience thus lower premium sometimes.

Regular driver - This is the person who earns the NCD.

Additional drivers - adding other drivers can reduce your premium. I had my mum and bro in law on mine and because they are seen as more experienced, it can lower your premium. If your married, then get a quote with your wife/husband on the car as it can half the risk and sometimes the premium.

Mileage - On comparethemarket.com the 4000 mile mark seems to be cheaper than other options. sometimes when you lower your mileage it can increase the risk somehow, so play with the option.

Night parking - Now this can play with your premium alot. Depending on where you live, if you select public road it can be cheaper then selecting "Garaged" so again play with this option so you can determine the best option for you.

Address - Risk address can really affect your premium depending on claims made around your area and underwritting risk assesment in your area (crime etc). If its expensive, its time to move lol. generally if you live closer to the city centre its more expensive. EG. CV1 is more expensive than CV6. this May not apply all the time though.

Theres some things you can look at, if i remember any more then i'll add to it but one thing.. Please do not make obvious lies on your policy because you can be caught out and wrong information on your policy could void it. so if you had a claim and they find out that you have had a claim/conviction or that your not the regular driver of your car then it can repudiate your claim!! The above is only an advisary on what each option means.

Gops, thanks a lot this I'm sure will help a few people in the future including me!

Don't care about your insurance hikes, I want to know more about the highlighted motor above! lol

my renewal is due in feb, just did some quotes on gocompare and the like, came through as 780 ish all mods declared. I'm 22 now, that will include 1yrs no claims, 1 accident and 0 points. that's with admiral/elephant again, which is who i'm with now.

Just had 3 points come through the post... Was hoping they would offer me the speed awareness course, as I was under the threshold and was my first ever offense, but they never even offered it... Met police...

Now my insurance is going to be even harder to find....

Lol!
What can I say I'm a huge Aston Martin fan! Decided to get V12 Vantage DB7 whilst my business was doing well. Sold it to get an S3 when the recession kicked in.
Looking at buying a V8 Vantage later in the year or early 2012 and keep my S3 for use as a weekend car! Lol! Keep it in the garage, only bring it out in the dry, let the AM take the daily driving poundage! :sm4:

good lord thats more than mine and I'm only 19!
