focus st vs s3 anyone else raced one?!!

Chris & Dave - sounds like the troublesome duo! Lol.

Show me where i compared my mear Audi S3 to the Veyron. I said anyone "mention" Veyron did i not. Assumption! Haldex make a similar system for the Veyron is what i was applying here. So it can't be all that bad!

It's people like you pair who think they are the "informed" and that your word is law. I'm getting kinda bored here (this thread) to be brutally honest with you. So this will be my last post (hooraar)!

Can we get one "fact" straight here. The S3 might have as you put it "faux" non permanent 4WD, does that make it a laughing stock. Well from where i'm sitting here with you pair twiddling your thumbs waiting for the next opportunity to slate haldex or the S3 it does. But whatever floats, anyone smell that?? :)

Remember Dave.....Quattro is for whimps. Does that mean the Torsen system is too, be careful here or you might get singled out yourself for outlandish opinions, especially on an Audi forum. Generalisation is what i was flamed for.....

You like to feel the "bigger man" you take the **** out of people who can't spell in an all together backward way, so that you yourself look like the big cheese! I like Faz think the same. I'm not about to spell it out here but i think you catch my drift!

I'd love to meet both you and Chris on the track, problem is it's just not my thing and i'd hate to be shown up by Daves clear £20k bumblebee investment or Chis's RS to which i see no point in going up against, mines a Faux 4WD with 210Hp compared to over 400 with Torsen. I'd race you in reverse though. ;)

Perhaps i will attend sometime this year though but i'll be sure to bring my gran and her friends along though to teach you how to swing a handbag properly. :)

Mr G - you're taking things far too seriously, this is an internet forum, and thus many many differing opinions and experiences.

You or I are as entitled to put forward your thoughts as much as the next man.

For the record, when you post that "if haldex is bad, why did the Veyron use it" and then quote that post twice in previous postings, then you would by simple logic be seemingly insinuating that either you have some knowledge of the system or they use a similar system. Neither of which appears to be true.

1animal1 - Donington is defintely open this year, although full days are something like £300.

Far to seriously. Whatever Dave. It gets personal when you do nothing but try to drag people down with what i can see is no factual evidence that you either know the techicalities of the Haldex system or what it's used for yet you continually mention Quattro & Haldex.

There really is no "win" with you is there Dave, and as Chris kindly pointed out i'm the last say kid around here so i just cant help myself but reply to your post. Apologies to anyone who thought i'd be long gone. To the ST lads...hope you are enjoying this lol.

Quote twice in prevous postings.....Show me Dave.

What i said was....

"Haldex make a similar system for the Veyron is what i was applying here. So it can't be all that bad!" This is FACT Dave. They do make a similar system where power is distributed via a Haldex system, the fundamental issue you are stating here is that it does not.

Read the site Dave http://www.haldex.com/en/North-Amer...gories/AWD/Previous-Generations--Development/

What appears to be true Dave is that you love the use of needless sentenses in which the words are designed to be sarcastic & clever neither of which i might add are true.

Again as i said making you out to be the "the big man". Carry on Dave, need a shovel?

I found mine yesterday and used it to apologise to the ST lads and people here as i'd clearly offended them.

Have i miss-spelled anything....you sure you don't wish to add another sarcastic stupid comment!

G

:)

Again apologies for being an idiot and speaking out of turn. Call it a bad day lol. Was the worst one this year so far.

G

Mr G - define " They do make a similar system"

Similar in that the Audi uses a FWD biased system that can send power to the rear wheels?

Whereas the Veyron uses a RWD biased system that can send power to the front wheels.

Now that tells you something doesnt it. Firstly, they both use haldex but are the complete opposite of each other.

Secondly, that for 'some unknown reason' ultra high performance car engineers prefer RWD.

Now the haldex torque sensing differential as a concept and in operation is actually very good, in fact so good they did a Porsche test car with one. Porsche being driver focused unlike the majority of Audi offerings.

The vast difference is, the S3 runs the poor cousin, and its no more similar than its made by the same company, and its a differential. Therein the similarities end.

Similar, would you like the meaning explained?? I know what it means, clearly you do not.

You'll find it here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Similar

Furthermore, they both use Haldex, did i read that/you correctly?? Contradiction Dave??.

Again the meaning

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contradiction

You said they do not use a similar system. Yet the clearly do, does it matter where the controller sends the power. Uprate the S3 controller and it does the same, i'm sure it could be tweaked to just send power to the rear if it is at all adjustable. Thats said if we are only talking similarities between two delivery systems & how they go around doing it.

So on that basis Dave, i seem to have picked holes in your so called Logic!

The fact that you seem to have nothing but praise for your BMW which as you also pointed out that for some unknown reason "ultra high" performance cars engineers prefer RWD.

Lets name a few then with 4WD (if thats faux or not):

Lamborghini Gallardo (all models) not haldex i might add.
Koenigsegg CCR
Veyron
Skyline GTR's (all)

Do you call a rally car ultra high performance? (different class i know) but they are very fast cars point to point are they not?

Are most "modern" rally cars not 4WD?

Those above are to name a mear few. So i'd suggest that this little bubble you are in with the BMW loving RWD concept is the wrong place to be on an Audi forum which has mainly FWD cars or possibly whimpy Quattro.

If you dislike Audi so much Dave sod off to the BMW forums mate, you won't be missed by me i'll say that openly.

LOL.

Not even worth bothering.

You are arguing with yourself now.

Skylines are rear biased BTW.

I rest my case Dave. PROVED.

Still 4WD Dave no matter which way you look at it.

Opps bubble burst??

G

Jesus! Come on...

There is no right or wrong here.

4WD has it's place...it lets more of the power be used more of the time, usually by more people.

Road cars will usually benefit from a 'good' 4WD system, and prove to be quicker in the real world, in all weathers than RWD/FWD.

WRC cars don't run 4WD for no reason...so there are advantages there.

Circuit cars tend to be RWD as the tracks are smooth, grippy and the weight saving is an advantage.

There is no right or wrong...a good FWD will be better than a crap RWD.
A good 4WD better than a decent RWD under certain conditions...
And RWD the more involving almost all the time.

Does it really matter?

anyway....I trounced an ST who was trying to beat me away from lights and cut into my lane...and I'm old....and I had the Mrs in the car.....she told me off.....

:motz:..LOL

:)

You are right Ess there is no right or wrong, save to say that Dave believes there is! RWD in a BMW is far superior according to Dave anyway.

As far as i can see and i'm talking about other threads here too. Dave has done nothing but slate the S3 for it's faux 4WD system. He states fictional nonsense which needs to be adjusted. Takes the **** out of what he assumes are lesser people because they can't spell correctly using sophisticated means in his wording.

I for one will stick my hand up when i am wrong. I've proved that on more than on occassion. Dave though....light shines from the proverbial M-Powered ****! I assumed things and shouted my mouth off to a whole big audience with reference to the Ford ST/RS brand. I was wrong, they aren't all chavs/idiots and are decent people who in hindsight drive decent cars.

I'm done with this thread!

G

well i thought i may see 1 or 2 posts since this morning but this is ridiculous:)

I agree

RWD is great for driver satisfaction but i've still stepped out of one of the best RWD cars out there so i can have 4WD, simply because of the roads i drive on alot.

I know my remapped S3 would stay ahead of a well driven M3 on these roads especially when wet

I love these threads !

Oh no! Now we need an S3 vs M3 thread ;)

I love M3's getting smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror ;)

that sound turns me on lol
vip uae y did u get rid of it?

I've still got it Haglos, I left spain a few months ago and moved to Dubai, I didn't know what the rules were on importing cars, and they have to be changed for gulf spec, and then there was the shipping (not Cheap)..

So I left it wil a pal and bought an S3 as soon as I got here, S3's are very, very rare here and I was planning to buy the Mrs a car and bought this, I always fancied one of these.

So the ST will be put in a container and sent here in May and hopefully should be on the road by June, I miss it like crazy loved the car.

I like the S3 a lot also, should have a REVO remap soon, its just in the bodyshop now getting a bit of work done and the wheels done in anthracite.

vip uae your making me want 1 badly what are they like interior wise tell me from your point im defo considering 1 the sound is very very nice!!

i love the sound, the interior is what turned me away..... the quality IMO is very noticeable between the two cars..at the time i was comparing between an 04/54 plate ST and a T plate A3 1.8T with leather to give you an idea what i was comparing against. Great car though and i would defo look at if i was due a company car...

thanks 1 animal i was looking at the st 2s and personally im not to keen on the interior but i must say the st 3 interior is the same but its leather and looks better. im gonna go setup a test drive in 1 so i can see for my self power wise. they are very common i have seen loads but i love the look.

Animal, they didn't do a 54 plate, they came out 55 buddy..

I liked the interior, nice recaro's, and mine has digital climate, so no knobs, and the sony System was nice, however it creaks and rattles a lot, they dont all do it, a fair percentage do though.

I have had the rear interior quarter panels changed twice under warranty and it still does it..

Even my S3 2002 dosent rattle, the S3 has a far better build quality, but then we are comparing Audi to Ford build here, no contest.

i would highly recommend test driving one though, the engine sounds sooo sweet and it handles very well for FWD, with a LSD it will be excellent..

I love it , really, one of the best cars I have ever had, even with just the remap sooo much fun.

Oh no! Now we need an S3 vs M3 thread ;)

Im not trying to stir this guys or start another million page thread but I thought M3's were a lot quicker in a straight line then a Mapped S3 aren't they? Im talking purely from a acceleration point of view on a straight dry road... no wet corners or anything.....

I stand corrected then mate, it was an ST1 regardless..... in orange no less:arco:

Digging up an old thread here but had a play with one of these today, defo remapped with exhaust and was friggin fast! I did have 3 people in the car but still it gave it! #off to get my badger 5 TIP
