Hi, I've recently discovered the very nice TTS and quite fancy one but there aren't that many around in the spec I'd like. So, can someone tell me what the TTS has that a really nice, high spec "normal" TT doesn't and why I shouldn't just go for the latter.

It was the interior that did it for me regards the TTS, so I'm after the plush, heated leather seats, sat nav, nice stitching etc. but also want the s-tronic gearbox and mag-ride (if possible).

Cheers for any help.

Im sure all of the options are available on the TT Sline. im sure the only thing the TTS has over the Sline is slightly more power but in all honesty you wouldnt notice the difference unless seriously booting it which you just ouldnt do on normal roads.

I think the Sline comes with a single-sided twin exhaust as well where the TTS comes with the single or twin split exhaust.

and im sure the Sline is around £6000 cheaper than than the TTS.

Also ive heard the Mag-Ride is not all its cracked up to be, never had experience of it myself but from people that have it on the TTRS they are saying they would have rathered stick to standard suspension.

If your looking for other information on the TT probably best to visit the TT Forum as there is plenty of us on there that can help out.

Thanks very much for the feedback mate... Got a lot of views on this one and only you bothered!!

Whatever I buy I'll probably get it remapped straight away anyway, so I can get the extra I want. Seems the TTs has a certain level of spec guaranteed off the shelf so to speak, whereas I can prob find a good S-line with the spec I want, but it'll prob take a bit longer to find it. Hmmm.

What do you drive mate?

Im driving an A3 2.0Tdi Black Edition the now, had a Mk1 TT 225 Quattro before and loved it, really miss it now. Ive been on the TT Forum for years now and been in a good few Mk2 TT's now so i get the general spec they are on and such. Really wanting to go back to the TT at some point soon though.

If your looking at getting it remapped then Id just get the TT Sline as its not that far off the TTS spec im sure, but i would say stay clear of the mag ride, if your looking for decent suspension just get an upgraded coilover kit

Im sure if you look at the later date TT Sline models (I believe there was a facelift in 2011) they actually come with very similar bodykits so the nice TTS Styling. i think the only thing that is really missing is the Silver TTS Mirrors and the split twin exhausts

Alright Dazz, really sorry mate, appreciate ur input.... been mega busy with work... well, working more hours to get the cash for this car hahahaha!

test drove another one last friday and was very nice i have to say... got me thinking tho, need to do bit more homework cos wondering:

is the sat nav worth bothering with?
does the ipod dock in glove box come as standard?
and does it just do ipods?
so if i got the wide screen sat nav and the ipod dock, can i watch videos from my ipod thru the screen?
How does the newer quattro system work... does it turn off after about 30mph like mine currently does or is it permanent?
does the tts come with EBD and ASR, and god knows what else they've dreamed up for braking control these days, as standard?
does it come with an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and heated door mirrors as standard?

sorry to pick ur brains too much... just ignore me if u want :D

cheers,
Sean

Hi Sean,

I've not had any experience of the built in satnav screen tbh but would think that it wont play videos through the iPod whilst the car is moving (i think the majority of these systems are the same)
I think the iPod dock was an extra but on the s-line came as standard, not 100% sure on that one though.
The quattro system works in pretty much the same way to the Mk1 system where it basically kicks into life when its needed so not a permenant system.
No idea on the brake side of things what they come with now, far too many variations for it to be straight forward haha.
I believe the heated door mirrors come as standard alont with the auto-dim rearview mirror

Hope this helps a bit,
Dazz

Alright Dazz, yeah, didn't think it would allow you to but you never know - always worth asking:)

Thanks for info mate, it all helps

I know what you mean about too many variations!!! Far too confusing... but good at same time.

You don't happen to know if it's just for ipods tho do you? Plug owt else in per chance?

Was also wondering exactly what "Black Edition" means when tagged onto (all) these cars... so what does that mean for your car?

Cheers...

Not to sure if it is usable for any other mp3 players but if it is just a plug in cable to the back of the head unit i cant see why you couldnt just change the cable for one suitable for another mps player, although it may prove difficult to get hold of.

Black edition is basically s-line+ the front grille surrounds will be black you get anthracite wheels, the interior is less chrome and more gloss black, tinted rear windows and something else im sre but cant remember what exactly. probably best asking in an audi garage exactly what the black editions have. i like it for the stealth kinda look :ninja:

On the subject of SatNav, I find it hard to justify the cost if buying new as functionally it's pretty rubbish. If it's on a 2nd hand car then fine, as aesthetically it's an improvement over the standard stereos. I'm still dumbfounded that car manufacturers can't manage to produce a satnav that's as good as TomTom yet still manage to stick a 10x price tag.

Hi folks,

Only just seen this as I tend to look on the S3 forum, but I have a TTS so can provide a little insight for you.

The TTS is a very different animal to the other 2.0T TT's, specifically in the engine used.....all other items such as the RNSE etc can be retrofitted very easily to any model relatively economically.

If I were you, I would decide what you want to do, buy a nice quick TT which can be modified and tuned to equate to a standard TTS, or buy a TTS for the hardware you get and the relatively unlimited tuning potential.

The latest TT's have the new 2.0TFSI engine which puts out approx 210 bhp and provides a lot of mid-range torque to provide good acceleration where you need it for day-to-day driving ( overtaking etc ).

The TTs however has the same engine as the S3 which is the older verion of the 2.0TFSI.....it is a tried and tested unit and has 270bhp as standard in the TTS ( slightly more than the S3 due to the better exhaust routing ).

You can spend a similar amount on tuning for both engines, and in the newer one you will have approx 250/260 bhp which is the starting point for the TTS, but with the TTS, due to the larger turbo and tougher internals, £400 will get you a stage 1 tune and provide 310 bhp very easily.....and that is TTRS/Porsche Cayman performance. From there, the sky really is the limit bhp wise.

I agree with the comments about the magnetic ride, which comes as standard on the TTS.....it is largely irrelevant on the road, but the standard suspension is pretty compliant for a sports car which means mag ride is largely for track day junkies or German autobahns !

It would also be good for you to take a look on the Audi TT Owners Club forum (www.ttforum.co.uk) as they have specifications and FAQ's for the Mk II TT's which will answer all your questions.

So in summary, I would take both cars out as they are quite different animals, and you can then decide what fits you best.

hope that helps.
