Just had a telephone call (16.00 hrs on 17th January 2013) from a Mr. Dominic Stevenson of Audi UK Customer Services.

Mr. Stevenson telephoned to thank me for sending Mr. Westwood (instructions from Mr. Sander) my findings and resolutions for the brake squeal issue on the RS3, but Mr. Westwood has since moved on...

Mr. Stevenson proceeds to inform me that there is no proposed resolution within Audi UK to the brake-squeal issue.

So I say to him, Mr. Dominic Stevenson, that is: "are you aware that Brembo are currently advertising and selling a replacement brake pad "with the added benefit of anti-noise shims on every pad."

"NO" says he...

I actually thought he was taking the p?ss, but he was bl??dy serious!

So now you RS3 owner/drivers with squealing brakes and empty pockets have stopped laughing, maybe not, take a little peep at the following:

New Brembo Sport Pad For Audi TTRS & RS3 | APS

The advert actually says: "New Brembo Sport Pad For Audi TTRS & RS3"

And follows up with: "Fed up with squeaking factory front brake pads on your TT RS or RS3? We have an answer for you: The Brembo Sport brake pad set! Tried and tested cost effective pad upgrade available from APS.

Designed to be a direct replacement for the Original Equipment (OE) pads the Brembo sport pad comes with the exact same specification as the OE pad including (where applicable): slots for separate wear leads and anti-rattle clips with the added benefit of anti-noise shims on every pad."

So it's exactly the same friction material (good) but with a fit-for-purpose anti-squeal material affixed: really, who'd have bl??dy thought it?

You really can't make this stuff up

GO CHECK IT OUT and write to AUDI UK Customer Services accordingly... I have.

Go to the top, Martin Sander MD of Audi UK, I have (martin.sander@audi.co.uk).

AUDI UK are now taking the p##s!

Oh, and my brakes remain squeal free, and so do JonnyG's, and maybe monkeyboy_marcus's will, after today's vist to Coulsdon Audi.

Ha..mines at dealers this week and have been told the same today.
Helpful dealer tho was going to fit shims, so we shall see..

I remain sceptical about the claims of squeal free as a result of anti-noise shims! Who's claiming them to be noise free APS or Brembo? I wonder how you'd get on with a claim against APS or Brembo themselves if they do squeal? The advert is cleverly worded to praise the deceleration performance but isn't saying they are noise free in these conditions.

I've used similar Brembo setups on Evo's, Megane R26.R etc on track with upgraded pads and sometimes they squeal, sometimes they don't there was never much logic to it. All the tricks mentioned in other threads work to some degree to stop this for a time. I'm just thankful they don't squeal and rattle like the Performance Friction pads and discs I once used did - but wow were they effective and fade free on track so in my view it was worth it - clearly the RS3 is in a different market so not a direct comparison.

I've clearly been lucky once again with my RS3 because I only ever suffered very low speed squeal and that stopped after 3K miles. Only if the discs 'rust' over after being wet do I get any short lived problem now. I can imagine this is a frustrating problem for those plagued by it, OEM pads should be silent.

I reckon Audi UK will eventually get round to replacing the OEM pads with something very much like these in the next few months.

If Brembo have now produced them I would have hoped Audi are currently evaluating them with a view to replacing all the complaining owners RS3's and TTRS's pads.

This link seemed to suggest Audi in Germany were already on the case :-

Had two clients in the car today, travelled from Acton to the South-Bank, London. 8 mile journey, stop-start journey took almost an hour and the break squeal was phenomenal........ Not happy, had to stick to the bus routes to pretend it was the buses and not me......
Will be contacting Audi in the morning, the saga continues, on a positive note the car performed like a dream today in the bad weather.
Not so clean now though

I like the dirty look, too.

Audi UK don't know about the fix Audi GmbH have for German owners which is what Stephen Reil alluded to so to expect them to know what Brembo do after market is asking a bit much. Most Audi dealers didn't even know RS4 pads were Pagid and discs were Brembo even though it says on them! And don't ask your sevrice manager if the RS4 V8 is belt or chain driven....

Well brake squeal free during the drive back from Coulsdon Audi today. Admittedly, only time (i.e. classic dry weather conditions etc) will tell whether it has been 100% effective and whether it is a permanent fix but for the sake of £17.00 shims (no charge for fitting them, thanks Nick!) from ebay and an hour hanging around the showroom admiring the wares, that's made the world of difference to my driving experience.

I strongly recommend that if you have this issue, take matters into your own hands rather than wait for Audi to solve the problem.

But they should ****** know. All of the ****** suits in Audi Customer Services should get their "we-don't-know", "we-can't-do-anything-until-Audi-tell-us" ambivalent ***** into the workshops with a set of (dur, what are these for) spanners and get some hands-on-experience so they can then talk to 'US' gullible owners who've paid our money out so they can sit on their soft, hot-**** chairs, face to face...

Maybe we should have a squeal meet in Milton ****** Keynes.

Anyway, who's Stephen Reil?

For me, Audi UK don't know the meaning of customer ****** services... sorry

I will be calling Audi customer service about this - its fcuking shamefull that Brembo have produced something that we can purchase but it hasnt come from Audi. Audi should have got the first shipment of new pads before anywere else to rectify customer cars!!!

Why?

Audi gave Brembo a spec and a budget and they delivered parts for them. They aren't olbliged to do anything more unless Audi pays them to and continue to make numerous aftermarket applications that Audi don't perceive necessary for their OEM cars.

Stephen Reil is head of Quattro GmbH. BTW I am not condoning their actions however give the experiences I had with them on DRC on my previous RS4 and carbon by product of FSI and just general knowledge of their products, franchise dealers on the whole with some minor but excellent exceptions have no clue about the technical parts of their cars and the policy is if under warranty not to investigate or fix but just simply to replace without knowledge of why it happened / went wrong.

I tried brembosport blues on my car. Still squealed, and killed my stock discs in no time

So it is Brembo who make the OEM brake components fitted at manufacture? Mainly referring to the disks, calipers and pads sets.

Excuse my ignorance

Yeah its brembo who make the brake componets...

Hey Riot: I can think of many emotions you may fee but ignorance isn't one of them.

Frustration that Audi UK are ignoring and/or providing ineffective resolution to the brake-squeal complaints from RS3 and TT RS owners maybe more suitable?

Yes, this is the same Brembo, the ones who supply the original brake disc, caliper and pad for the RS3 and TTRS (and others, obviously).

But APS (autops.co.uk) in Brackley are advertising the aforementioned brake pads: "New Brembo Sport Pad For Audi TTRS & RS3".

And follow up with: "Fed up with squeaking factory front brake pads on your TT RS or RS3?
We have an answer for you: The Brembo Sport brake pad set! Tried and tested cost effective pad upgrade available from APS."

APS's advertised price is £116 inc Vat, and look (typically) like this:

111

Now for Audi UK: I did advised Mr. Stephenson (both verbally and then by e-mail) on the 17th January - and that's 28-days since - that APS were marketing these Brembo replacement brake pads for the RS3 and TT RS and asked why Audi UK were not employing these 'available' brake pads to resolve customer brake-squeal complaints.

So for one Riot, Mr. Dominic Stephenson of Audi UK (Milton Keynes) does know!

And for the record, again: I first reported 'horrendous' brake-squeal to my Audi dealer on 3rd February 2012 @ 1315 miles.

I'm now starting to think this whole issue funny, 'cause Audi UK obviously do!

Zimmerman make the rs3 and TTRS discs not brembo

Zimmerman make the rs3 and TTRS discs not brembo

So it's Zimmerman? So the Zhangzhou Metal Company Factory Number 3/4/5 or 6 out of Fuijan Province in the PRC supplied Zimmerman with the ferrous core? Who cares?

I purchased my fabulous but squealy beast from Audi and it's Audi I wanted to get their a*se of their seats and sort it. Done mine myself now and when I pulled my brakes apart they had Audi and Brembo all over 'em and not Zimmerman (which means carpenter anyway).

Zimmerman, I don't care. Zimmerman don't care. Audi don't care. Brembo don't care. Get over it. just wasting yer time moaning, moaning, moaning. Sort it yorself like I did

I don't care about the squealing. The r8's squeal too. I'm just pointing out the facts.

CHILL, 8PARSY...

Black Country humour I like but its Audi UK we need to target.

As I've now stripped a few RS3 and TT RS 'squealy' front brakes and having removed the brake pads (forcibly in some cases) and applied an anti-squeal compound such as Copperslip and/or CERATEC, then the brake squeal characteristics are immediately changed and maybe eliminated altogether - if only in the short term.

So I invite you all to consider: (1) if the brake-squeal were from the 'Zimmerman' manufactured brake disc, then there would be NO change in the brake-squeal characteristics caused by the application of Copperslip, BUT (2) if there were/IS a change, then we're looking at the brake-pad and/or brake-pad to brake caliper fit and/or brake-pad to caliper piston contact.

So Zimmerman, and their brake discs, are off the hook for me!

But Brembo? Well, they seem to have recognised this fact and are advertising a solution.

Audi UK however still has the 'blinkers' on...

And that is NOT meant as a currently 'topical' joke guys...

PLEASE! C'mon guys! Behave already...

tehehe...

I agree its not the discs, but their design is **** too.

For me, poverty, the brake disc is fine - I used similar (floating) on the 3.2 TT without problem.

But with my RS3, then hands-on, careful 'tweaks' to the pad/caliper/caliper piston relationship and the issue of brake-squeal on my own car is no longer a problem, period!

For me, the RS3 brake-disc is A1!

And brake squeal is not a new issue; back in the 70's (Girling 2-pot calipers (same design principle as the 4-pot Brembo unit, really!)) we were fitting stainless steel shims with a smear of good-old Copperslip between the shim and the brake-pad to solve the brake-squeal issue.

And how effective was that? About 100%.

On our cars, however, the cause of the brake-squeal at low brake-disc RPM problem is: brake-pad to caliper and/or brake-pad to brake-caliper pistons...

Again, I fixed mine back in February 2012 when my local Audi dealer just shrugged as if to say: well they all do that don't they?

NO they don't, actually, only some... and it's too few for Audi UK to care!!!!

(until they come to sell their next RS product!)

BEFORE AUDI START EVALUATING THEIR FIX ON YOUR AUDI RS3 OR TTRS...

Although I've actually fixed my own brake squeal (and a few others) with the application of Mintex self-adhesive anti-squeal shims, I'm now thinking of buying a set of these advertised (BREMBO brake pads) just to evaluate.

After all, the advert does say: "Fed up with squeaking factory front brake pads (oh, and these are Brembo don't forget) on your TT RS or RS3? We have an answer for you: the Brembo Sport brake pad set! Tried and tested cost effective pad upgrade available from APS."

MY QUESTION: HAS ANYBODY OUT THERE ACTUALLY TRIED THESE "WE HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YOU' BREMBO BRAKE PADS?

Ive had these smaller shaped pads fitted today, quieter, and makes the whole experience more comfortable.

[h=1]Small Shaped Pads[/h]Small Shaped Pads are ergonomically designed to fit closer to your body than inserts, enabling greater protection against leakage. These small shaped pads range in absorbency levels and are designed to be discreet. Included in this range are pads designed to be gender specific; such as the TENA Men and the TENA Lady Pads.

For more severe incontinence, our Large Shaped Pads are slightly more expensive than small shaped pads, but have faster absorbency due to the 'high loft' material.
