Owners with - brake squeal - please register your frustrations HERE!

I contacted Audi customer services today for an update..... They confirmed the fix is now available, usual chatter about parts and availability. They are due to call me Friday with my date/slot to bring the car in, I've posted in here to resurrect the thread. It looks like good news at last, I registered with Audi customer services my complaint as you all know some months ago and as such I'm in the top half of a very long list......

Do we know if this will be a recall to all or just those reporting it? I contacted my local dealer a few weeks back who admittedly only has 4 RS3's on his books but had never heard of the issue.

they're only going to deal with registered complaints first, as registered complainers tend to cost them money. I had a brand new Audi S4 Avant, insured by them for 35 days; I managed to put 4000miles on it (it was a busy month!) that ain't free....... and the sooner they put me and people like me back in our boxes we're gonna cost them a fortune....... for God's sake if you haven't registered with Audi Customer services do it now 0800 699 888

I e mailed them last week and had a call beack of a nice guy ON HIS DAY OFF regarding the issue! I was told a fix was imminent and he would call me this week to sort so looking good!

Just called Audi CS, my supplying dealer hasn't registered a case with them about my squeeking brakes even thought I have regsitered my complaint with the dealer and they are not aware of a brake recall for the RS3! So I now have to go to me local dealer and speak with them about the issue who supposedly will be aware of the TSB that CS do not get to see!

On the phone with Audi UK right now, typing one-handed! Official word is: Fix still under development, no firm date but imminent. No info about a general recall. No info about fix details. Oh, and I'll be one of the first to be informed, apparently... Goodwill gesture has been offered for a vehicle service.

Guys, you should have heard the brake squeal from 11-RS3's in Wales last Sunday, unbelievable... Everyone of those Welsh sheep were wearing ear-defenders :racer: So c'mon Audi, get it sorted; as you've now a load of Wesh sheep seeking compensation, too! :sadlike:

Just also rung the dealer, no news when fix is in.

They rang Audi uk who say its still being tested but fingers crossed it'll be soon.

love it.... Keep putting the squeeze on guy's power to the people. As much as I enjoy John's banter about Sunday and braking properly, the squeal returned with a vengeance this morning in; you guessed it slow moving, frequently braking traffic waaa waaaa waaaaa.......

Just called audi got a feeling he has had a couple of calls on the same issue recently as he knew of problem straight away!! He told me similar they see working on it in Germany in hot, cold and wet conditions as it needs to be a fix that lasts but hopeful it will be within the next month or so.
Its just getting a little boring now! Though have to say car has been squeal free for a week!

Well, I've just arranged for a free service with my dealer as a goodwill gesture, which is better than nothing... Car has done 11k, so might be worthwhile.

Hang on a minute, three different callers to three different people at Audi CS and three differet answers! What sort of BS is that Audi! You all sit in the same building, probably on the same floor in the same office and can't get the story straight!

Exactly why i'm so p*ssed off.

I was promised that the fix would be here within three weeks and the Audi dealer begged me to not hand the car back but give them a chance to at least fix it..... Guess what? Friday will be three weeks and ive been told its still being tested!

My Mrs even said to them we were fed up of the fix being put back and put back, hence we were not prepared to keep being fobbed off.... They promised it wouldnt be........... Now it's put back AGAIN

Pathetic

BUT this has been EXACTLY what Audi have been putting out throughout 2012 (since February 2012 for me) and now into 2013 i.e., write to the MD of Audi UK and get a customer fob-off person to provide you with nice words (and maybe enticing offers) that have, to date, proven to be exactly that, a fob-off.

No point getting excited about new Audi cars when the response from Audi UK to this issue has been so appalling.

POOR customer communications Audi, very poor!

Goodwood Festival might be a good place for protest: recordings of brake squeal on the hour, every hour… Sorry, that would be a VERY bad and unproductive reaction!

Wouldn't it?

Just putting a bit of polish on Bluey and thinking, as one does... :eyebrows:

Audi UK have 2-premises: Milton Keynes and Leeds!

What goes on at Audi UK Leeds? :ermm:

Now Audi UK Leeds must be very close to some of you guys with the brake-squeal issue, closer than Milton Keynes anyway; get my thoughts?

Now one of the Customer pacification guys, a certain Crai# Westw**d, works between both the Milton Keynes and the Leeds office, he's told me so; so some Customer pacification must goes on in Leeds.

Check it out? :whistle2:

it's official next meet...... RS3 Goodwood festival, John's organising hee hee hee......
11 - 14 JULY 2013
Forget it, just checked out the prices....... £113.00 for entry on a Saturday, bah humbug

How much??? :jump: That's more than half my WF Allowance!

OK! Add me to the list.

Hope you're doing the sandwiches...

Payment on the day? Just in case my heart has stopped running by then!

no chance...... I've done my bit, someone else can organise our next meet.....

. RS3 owners only
. Can't talk about it
. Cars must be clean/detailed
. MBK and Mr Freeze can battle it out leading the pack
. robbiemac bringing up the rear (just how I like it)
. maximum of 5 Ibis White cars, cause I'm sick of them
. beat 11no. Attendees, as we missed our £half-mill target
. Southern location, palm trees, beaches......
. Spa hotel as meet point, otherwise my Missus will freak out.....
. July, August preferred.... Suggest at least two dates

I'm going to nominate MBK and CatnipRS3 as these boy's will deliver..........

Tell them you want a definitive date for fix and start by saying end of month at latest as you have waited far too long as it is and your whole experience has been diluted. Tell them your next step is to officially reject the car. Then ask them to put what they agree in email to you and if they try to wriggle push them hard. Believe me they have the power to eventually give Full refunds after 11 months of ownership!

hi guys

Bit of an update after i called yesterday Audi called me back a little while ago. A very helpful lady called Kelly told me what we all know that a fix was on the way, still working on it, very sorry for all this and i was too offered a free service for all this hassle. She told me that she has heard the break squeal first hand and agrees its awful and unnacceptable for a car that costs 40k plus. I think i am perhaps a little luckier than some of you on here. The break squeal can be bad but only rarely, she says that it differs and some are suffering with it a lot more than others.
Its worth calling Audi as they are now offering us this free service as a form of compensation, still doesnt solve the issue but she has told me she will call me every 4 weeks until its sorted. I said to her i hoped it would be fixed by then but of course they cant confirm that!

I was booking in my car for a correction detail earlier today and a TT-RS owner was there having some work done. I asked him about brake squeal and he said he had some minor issues wiith that some time ago but the car was pulled in for a recall last year and new pads fitted which has solved the issue?

Swollen face due to a kick in the teeth from an aggrieved RS3 owner :keule:

has anyone on here actually had a free service as yet??

I've had two free services in the past, Both times they told me i couldnt dictate when i took them it had to be when the car was due!

I'd suspect its the same in these cases, Even though i will want mine unnecessarily serviced every 12k.

Got it booked in for the 8th May. Confirmed that it will be minor, consisting of an oil change - car has done 11.5k miles. Also getting the corroded rear hubs cleaned/painted, squeaky seat sorted, door rattle fixed and maybe just maybe the brake squeal fixed too. This offer of a free service is not an urban myth!

Squeak/rattle confirmed as exhaust downpipe not being properly secured on the mounting, which was responsible for the variety of odd sounds I was hearing. Warranty guy refused to do the corroded hubs but at least the service element was free. Oh and I got the brakes fixed - no, not really.

Re: Corroded hubs

GUYS, as you well know I do not react positively to Audi (or others) personnel answering my complaint with "it's normal", or "they're all like that" so, as with the brake-squeal issue (that I self-sorted), I set about sorting the rust on the rear brake discs myself, and this is what mine are like today 15-months on and 4500-miles:

REAR:

FRONT:

Yours can easily be the same, but I'll guarantee you this, AUDI will NOT do it for you!

Steel wool and Autosol? Did my fronts recently and they came up well and sealed the rears with G-Techniq from new which seems to have done the trick.

Very nice! I know you've mentioned this before, but what are you using/have used? As with everything Audi, it seems like I'll have to take these matters into my own hands...

See June 2012 thread: I'm going rusty post #7

I use POR15 as it "stops rust permanently"
On the REAR brake discs:
1) Remove loose rust and 'clean' the painted surface with fine wire wool (a Brillo pad will do)
2) Paint the surface with POR15 (I used the Grey colour)
3) Allow to dry and overcoat with POR15 'Clear' - cosmetic only.

On the FRONT brake discs:
1) Lightly 'clean' the surface with fine wire wool (a Brillo pad will do)

2) Paint the surface with POR15 'Clear'.

Now others will have an alternative solution, but this is how mine were done 15-months ago and remain as shown…

PS: How went the delivery Marcus?
