I thought I'd start a thread for my newly acquired a4.

I've been a member for a good few years now on here with my 1.9tdi (b6) avant, but over the last year I've been growing fonder of the b5 platform.

Here's my b6, it's now the family workhorse. It may even have to get raised as the wife kicks off at how low it is, but I'll prolong that as long as possible.

A change in work and family circumstances meant I was in the market for a second car. I spent months looking at various options and while I knew I wanted a quattro I naturally favoured the 1.8tqs. The problem is, they're getting a bit harder to find now. I test drove one about a month ago which was fairly local and was less than impressed with it which put me off for a bit. Eventually I found this, a fellow members car so you'll no doubt have seen it. It used to belong to ab5qts (top bloke, really friendly) who has since moved onto a b7.

Anyway, long story short he lives a rather long way from me so many emails were sent back and forth and eventually I flew up to Inverness to look at the car. I ended up buying it, wahoo!

Here's a few pics. First is mid way back on my 6.5 hour drive home.

And here's a few pics taken today, a week later. About 6 hours after I arrived back home from Scotland I had to drive to Wales for the family holiday. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take the b5 with me due to lack of space, so I was gutted!

It's a '99 plate tqs, with a fmic, milltek non-res cat back and an MRC remap done a few years back. I've not really got a lot of plans for the car, just keep it as it is for now. The main thing i want to sort is the dodgy dis screen, so I'll be ordering an eBay special soon.

I'll get better pics and update the thread as I go, but it won't be a fast moving thread so expect infrequent updates. :)

nice looking car and a fair run home with it.
I went to Inverness a few years back to pick up a passat. Its a good run up from us so I can imagine it was a fair hike for you.
at least the cars had a good first run with you

I was lucky my mate had a shogun sitting at his that was to go further north to where I was going so me and the misses ran up with the shogun and arranged to meet both the boys in the same place. and to top it off our fuel was covered for us for taking the shogun up as it saved my mates cousin coming down to pick it up

Finally youve started a thread lol

Thats one nice looking TQS with subtle mods for a nice daily driver !!

Just needs a proper centre cap and not a cap spring HAHAHA !! I fcukin hate those centre caps 3 of mine are tiger sealed just one more to go lol

Got a link for the proper center caps? The previous owner said that when he got tyres fit they went walkies :(

My problem will be colour matching them since the wheels have had a refurb.

Hey I recognise that car. Looks good on your drive man.
As we talked about, I think spacers should be next in line. Bring those alloys out into the arches more.

The problem with the centre caps is they corrode and ditch themselves when removed to balance the wheel ive looked at fitting newer style ones but never really did anything as my local scrappy had none to test fit !!

Also if you got some off ebay they will probably ditch themselves aswell !!

I've found that the problem with the center caps is that the spring clip comes away from the cap face. If you are carefull you can fix the issue with a pair of pliers and a hammer :D

Thats if you still have both parts ofcourse. I'm getting used to tyre places bringing out my center caps in two pieces :(

Yeah they pop off to clamp to a wheel balancer and also to crack off your driveshaft hub bolt !!

i measured them at a roughly 64mm face so id say a 58-60mm clip will be needed !!

il let you be the monkey and think of a solution for us with these centre caps :) !!

I might just glue gun them or something and then heat them to remove them temporarily when the tyre men have balanced my wheels :D Then I can replace them in my own time, not relying on the tyre people losing or breaking them.

I think I also need to remove my springy thing as i suspect it'll look better without that in there?

I'll also try think of better solutions, but i'm currently trying to fix my old phone so I can flog it ha!

just buy new ones.

Old knackered ones corrode and fall apart, new ones will fix it for another 10 years or so.

You mean 4.2?

Back to Crazy's sexy ride.
Fixed you dis yet?

Isn't there a 4.0 v8 diesel in the a8's?

And no, i haven't fixed the dis yet. I'll be ordering a screen sometime this week. Won't get chance to fit it until next weekend at the earliest, so not in a huge rush. And i'm waiting on some gimp to send me some LEDs too...just sayin.

So the gimp has two weeks till you really need the LEDs then?

Well, if said gimp sent them earlier then the OP might get his *** in gear and order a DIS quicker. It'll give me something to do in my lunch break :D

It might be the ops nonchalant attitude towards his urgency for said LEDs that makes the gimp thinks he can do more important LED/Cluster work before helping the op out for free.

I wants a 110TDi Avant quattro :(

just thought I would join in... but the above is true :lmfao:
I might have a very, very tidy a4 avant 1.9Tdi quattro sport with a lot of tasty bits done to it: facelift bumper conversion + fogs, xenon conversion, 17" Ronal Bolero's 8.5" wide/deep dish wheels (similar to 1.8TQS but wider and better offset !), bv 43 turbocharger, chipped/socketed ECU with remap, 11mm AHH injector pump, pd 130 intake + Allard EGR delete, pd 130 boost pipes, new intercooler, 3Bar MAP sensor, new Sachs flywheel + clutch kit, 0.216 nozzles, Bilsteinn b8 suspension, Eibach PRO springs, full suspension arms up front/ solid S4 track rod ends, rear solid TRE, drives as good as it looks ! Everything works as it should, just been round Europe for summer holidays without any issue 3000miles to be precise !
running about 180Bhp at the moment but with potential for more IF you replace nozzles with race 520 in 0.260 size ! It has a clutch friendly tune at the moment but keep's up with much more modern motors + it returns 50-60 Mpg on a run !!!
Here's a picture of it, 2nd car from the left:

Hi Adam. I always keep an eye on your classifieds as I nearly bought a black 1.9tdi avant off you last year but I think you ended up keeping it.

I'd seen the above car you've mentioned also. Quite a lot of Audis in that car park are they all yours?

Yep ! They are all "work in project", some more finished than others ! I will take a sweep/panorama style picture, i "think" i have 14-15 cars now...
To be honest i don't advertise cars much, i have hundreds of mates that keep an watchful eye on my cars and when i get bored and decide to sell it they snap it up ! Rarely i put a car on gumtree just to "test the water" !
With my cars you don't need to spend money up front, you can buy a car privately and could need a few grand worth of work, not in my case !

I also don't like to barter, what i want is what i get as the cars don't need any mechanical work whatsoever ! A good car is never too expensive ! Sorry for the thread hi-jack !

It's all good mate, hijack away! haha! That b5 looks nice, the wider bolero alloys are indeed lovely!

Looks a lovely car Crazy, I'm a little jealous.

Simple solution to the centre cap dilemma. Swap wheels with the B6! Your mrs will only curb them on the B6.

Yeah, i have considered putting my b6 s4 wheels on the b5, i'll have to see when I eventually get them refurbed. They're currently sat in a garage feeling sorry for themselves :(

Car passed it's mot today. Yay! Advisory on rear brake lines and indicator bulbs becoming slightly white, so I'll sort the bulbs out ASAP. Just need to look at brakes now, never done them before.

Glad it passed though, it makes me smile.

its always good to go in and get an MOT first time round.. the advisory doesn't seem to bad.

just had a quick read back through this thread and it made me smile....

on the 4th of september I said I wanted a 110TDi Avant quattro and I finally got one last tuesday... :yahoo:

quick one... does the TQS have the black roof lining?

Yeah mine does too. Didn't realise they all did though.

And yes it's nice it passed on the day rather than needing some work, I'll just get them looked at over the next few weeks (brake lines) and then it'll be all good.

Try jcb, he may still have his, you will also need to adapt your wiring for the interior lights as there different on the facelift tqs, or you could find a pfl s4 avant for a straight swap
