Tried searching the forum but struggling to find threads, I am needing x2 new front tyres on my Avant BE (235/35/19), I currently have Contisport contacts on but have only seen around 8K miles from them, I am looking for something that will give longer life, I am looking at Dunlop SP Maxx due to a mate having them and getting decent lifespan from them, any recommendations out there? I am searching the usual web sites for best prices.

Cheers in advance.

8K ?? Are they 3's ?? ... I have these on my car and are about half worn and I have done 14K I was going to put the same back on when the time comes.

I've just replaced my conti 3s with the same. I was looking at Goodyear assymetrics but my local Audi dealer did me 4 at £180 each which was cheaper than I could get any of the other premium tyres for.
As a tyre I really like them even though they are quite noisy. To be honest if you stick to a decent brand these days I don't think that you'll go far wrong.

14K half worn, tell me your secret! When i bought the car last year the tyres were near enough brand new and in that year i have done 8K miles and the tyres are almost shot, i'm trying to get as much out of them as i can but i'm not willing to take the risk of them in the wet or being pulled over and fined for the sake of another few hundred miles maybe another 1k out of them? So i have deicded to change them.
Due to the life i have had out of them i am looking at something else, on my prevous B8 saloon (granted 18's) i had Dunlops and got 20K miles out of them a mate runs Dunlop SP Maxx on his Avant with 19s and he had about 20K out of those too so thats why i am swaying towads them although i have been looking at the slightly cheaper end of the market in the Falkens that have been recomended above, i have used them in the past on my B6 and they worked well for me although again on 18s.

I had Conti's on my S4, they used to tramline terribly. Michelin are doing a deal at the moment, where, depending on the size, they will give you a fuel card with (in my case) £60, thereby reducing the cost of the tyre. It had completely cured the tramlining. don't know how long they'll last, as I've only just fitted them, but the price is much better with this offer. Obviously, I don't know what they would cost for your size, but they may be worth considering.

Cheers for the info i will have a look at this. I too notice the tramline issue thought it was just maybe due to size of wheel/tyre.

...................... i have been looking at the slightly cheaper end of the market in the Falkens that have been recomended above, i have used them in the past on my B6 and they worked well for me although again on 18s.

I have a couple of Falken 452 on my 19" Double 7 Spoke Audi alloys at the rear of my S4 Avant. Happy with them apart from the fact that they do not protect the alloy rims from kerbing, in fact the rim seems to sit proud of the tyre and is very vulnerable to the dreaded kerbing. I have had them on previous cars with, obviously, different wheels and did not notice this problem.
So if you have the same wheels as I do I would think twice about this particular tyre..... and no, I'm not a careless parker!

Glad I'm not the only one! I have the Contis on my 2.0 Tdi (177) they're shot at 8.5k miles! I've just ordered a pair of Michelin PS3s to try which should be in tomorrow. I had these on my B7 A4 and had really good wear out of them so going to try them again.
As mentioned above Michelin are running an offer where they give you a fuel voucher depending on size/quantity of tyres fitted. In my case I will get a £50 for 2x19" tyres.

Had the standard contis on mine from new they lasted 10k on the front so tried Michelins they lasted 12k but would like something that lasts a bit longer for £250 each ! Might try Dunlop going by above! 19's by the way!

I am shocked that I seem to be getting a lot more miles out of mine than other people ....

I got 16,500 out of the front tyres on my S4 from new before I replaced them even though they were well above legal limits but really noticed better handling with new tyres. :racer:

What tyres were they guys? Would be happy with that

I am leaning towards Dunlops.
MAXX SP GT or MAXX SP RT
Both around £150 each on mytyres plus £5 per tyre fitting at a local centre.
Mate is runnig the GT's but the RTs get better efficiency and grip rating in wet so leaning towards those.
I guess only time will tell on the wear wether 8K is the norm or wether it was the conti's, i wouldnt say i have a hard driving style and as you can see only do 8k miles a year, it is clear from the few on this thread various mileage out of contis and other tyres.

It could have something to do with the Quattro... I'm about the same, coming up to 15k miles and just about time to change the standard Conti's.

Didn't Audi move to Michelin as the standard tyre also?

I got a letter through saying they'd changed so I'd assume all the new ones would come with the Michelin's... I'm on the tyre package with Audi so don't know what brand I should be getting from here on. I guess I'll just find out at the time. Almost need new boots anyhow.

I changed over from 18's Dunlop Sport Maxx GT to 19's Michelin's PS2 and they are noisy as f*ck, but they are apparently superb in the wet and long lasting tyres. I guess they would be as they aren't as soft as the Dunlop's.

I wanted originally Dunlop 19" Sport Maxx RT because it was advertised as soft, quiet and great rolling mileage on it, but reviews said because they tyres were soft they didn't last very long!

Michelin's Pilot Sport 2 and Michelin's Super Sports are meant to be 2 of the best.

:search: I've a pair of 235/35 ZR 19 91Y Extra Load tyres that'll be available around the 5th May.

Both are Audi RS original tyres, marked 'RO2', supplied and fitted to my RS3; both are currently running on the rear of my car.

With 6.0mm tread depth (8mm when new), and NO punctures or repairs. NO sidewall or edge protector damage, and remain in perfect balance.

PM me if interested in purchase.

tyres are 255

I'm kind of thinking that I'll stick with "Rosso" when I replace all four tyres when the winter wheels are back on. Michelin fuel cards work okay, I had one when I bought my Pilot Alpins back in September/October. One thing to watch out for though, if new to Michelin (Summer) tyres, make sure that you will never end up driving in snow or ice with them as they, along with quite a few other tyre manufacturers, have really made them for Summer use only - suits me as I tend to always have Winter wheel/tyres available for use in cold weather.

Hi. I also run 235/35/19 and was informed by a friend who used to work in the tyre trade that they are an unusually expensive size and that although not a "rare" size, they are not made in their millions which tend to keep the prices quite high. I have done quite a bit of research and it seems to me that a good compromise are the Vredestein Vortis's. The slightly harder compound will give you the longevity that you are after and although budgeted as an upper mid-range tyre should serve you we'll. Check the reviews on tyre reviews.co.uk. Best price I have found is £133 unfitted.

I think Redspudder is running 255x35x19's. Are these the size of tyre that you are referring to?

My error. I thought he meant 235's not 255's.

Made my decision in the end and went with the Dunlop GTs.
Had them on a week and have to say first impression are good, grip seems good no extra noise than the Conti's and the overhang rim protection is much better than the Conti's. Also i have not noticed any tramlining unlike the Conti's they were terrible for it from day 1 i even noticed it on the test drive when i bought the car.
Bought them from mytyres for £151 each very impressed with the service arrived within 3days, fitted at my local Audi dealer as i was getting a wheel refurb and killed 2 birds with 1 stone, all that remains now is to see how long they last and how much mileage i get from them.
