About a month ago, I cleaned the carbon build up in the intake manifold. An odd thing that occurred during the intake manifold cleaning was that the PCV valve failed, the PCV itself has nothing to do with the inlet manifold cleaning itself besides it needed to be taken off. How it ended up to be broken just that day is an amazing coincedence or a mistery. I drove the car for 4-5 days with a cleaned intake manifold and the broken PCV, until the new PCV was fitted. The car felt great, like it was much more responsive, it seemed to pull off much better (or at least the same). And then surprise, after fitting the new PCV, instant change. The first half a mile I was driving off the dealers, everything as mentioned in the title. The car seemed sluggish in pulling off in lower gears. A strange sensation, like the car has 180 bhp..

The car has 59k miles, it's 99% stock, everything done regularly at the dealers, oil, sparkplugs, haldex oil, cam follwer etc.. etc..

I noticed the change when the new PCV was fitted, but I was told that a PCV should not have any influence on the car's performance, prove me wrong. (I had a 2. revison, and now the last 5th or 6th revision)

I have a K&N air filter, and I read that the oil from it could block the MAF sensor in time. But like I said earlier the change in performance was instant, and the K&N's oil could influence the car's performance in time but not instantly.

I don't know what else could have happen in the time when they were changing the PCV (10 mins) that could have influenced the car's performance? They needed to take off the engine cover, they unplugged the MAF sensor. Could it be something with the MAF sensor plug? Or is it just the new revisioned PCV?

I will try to put the old one back tomorrow and see.. and have them to measure some fuel/air ratios with VAG, if it is possible?
To try and point to the problem.

P.S. recently I had a big problem, I could not overtake a 2008. BMW 530d(197bhp version) in the straight, aldo I wasn't in ultra high revs, and I did pass him and leave him in a car's length (in my lane), he was on my rear bumper, and because a curve was coming, and I needed to get in front of him in his lane and go into the curve, I was doing 118 mph at the time, and decided that it would be too risky to do such a thing, I stepped on the brakes, and he just passed next to me in his lane :keule:

Maybe it's just my imagination, maybe I underestimated the fat 530d, maybe It was a short straight, I don't drive a Formula, but still, a good 70bhp stronger car should have overtake it without a problem.

What could have caused my car to become sluggish in a day? What to look out for?

HELP ME:wtf:

Re-maped bmw 530d are quick don't underestimate one of thos but have you tried the DV valve?

My 2.0tfsi when I first bought it was so slow was like driving a 1.6 saxo but after changing the valve to the newer version it was 100x better. Could be that but it's just a guess as I just changed it on my S3 also as had a few problems a month ago.

Hope that might be of some help

It's a stock 530d (197bhp), I made a few inquries :) Maybe it was just a too short straight..
I was thinking about the DV. But could it be a coincidence that it failed just then when I replaced the PCV. This is all costing me money. I wanted to clean the intake manifold, and I had to buy the PCV and now maybe a DV. Is there a way of knowing is the DV malfunctioning? Without needing to buy a new one..

Still people let little fibs about there cars these days. Haha.

Yes take it off and have a look, if its the normal type the piston rubber might be torn or have a hole in it and if so theres your answer. If not at least you have eliminated a potential fault. Yes its all a coincidence but things happen just one of thos things.

Take if off i would have a look or for £75 i think they are buy a new one. Onky other thing i would do is give it a service, oil and filter change and also the fuel filter as that could be abit clogged etc. they are probably the 2 things i would do if it was me, but im sure someone else will also have a few ideas due to experience.

Hope its helped anyway.

I did an oil service when I changed the PCV valve a month ago. I service my car regularly every 6k miles. 4,5 ltr of Castrol 5W-30 Long Life III and an oil filter is no issue. I'm not sure about the fuel filter, I thought about it also, but it could not made this change to worse instantly in a day..

We will check the DV also tomorrow.. I don't know what else to think off..

A new revision G is not much more than £40 and is very easy to replace on the S3

I would give 200£ if only I knew for sure that this is the source of the problem. I'll have to wait and see tomorrow. Does anyone know how long does it takes to get it off the car for inspection?

A little update of today's progress. The mechanic took off the DV, and it's a G version, and there were no visible marks of damage on it. So he plugged the VAG and took it for a spin. And he noticed on some MAF values that the car get's 5% less air when 50% air should come in, or 10% less when it should get 100% air input, something like that. Then he took the MAF off and noticed that it's a little dirty, and he cleaned it with a cleaner spray, and the values after that were almost ideal. The car feels great again, it's strong in lower gears like before. So this should be marked as problem solved. I asked him could the 10% lack of air be noticed, he said that it can for sure be noticeable, so I think that this mistery is solved now. I'm in a good mood again. :D

It maybe worth removing your k&n filter and washing it out and reoiling it.
Or you could just remove it and mop some of the oil off it.
This would stop it happening again

I was thinking about this issue thoroughly. First of all, when I first oiled it, I looked after that I don't spray too much oil as it is stated in the instructions. This was 20 months ago, shouldn't the oil evaporated by now? Maybe it would be worse if I were to clean it and reoil it. Maybe the fresh oil would make it worse?? Aldo I don't know why didn't this situation happened 20 months ago when I first oiled it, but now?

If thats the case I'd just run it and enjoy it.
As you say it seems strange to happen after being fitted so long.
Glad its sorted mate.
