Discs + pads: Pagid or Mintex?

I've had mintex pads with brake engineering discs front and rear for 5k miles now without a cheep. Mindex pads come with backing pads attached these days.
 
If they come with pads now then thats ok, I take it back. they didn't used to and they squeaked, you could copper grease them but it only lasted a week or so until they squeaked again.
 
Both Pagid and Mintex standard pads are manufactured by TMD friction, so chances are they will be the same thing, but I do prefer mintex pads with pagid discs( which are coated), the race stuff I haven't used though.

that's an interesting comment. . . i was almost swayed by the pagid discs just cos the finish looks a little differnt (must be the coating!). Does the coating make them stop better, last longer or a bit of both?
 
Not interested in ferodoo pads? Expensive but worth the extra IMO.

My rear mintex pads squeeled all the time. So I took them off the friction material was all falling apart and crumbly, the metal backing had rusted so badly they had jammed and siezed in the caliper carrier. Truly aweful and about 6 months old!! Dusty too. I use TRW now, much better.
 
from a truely performance point of view (i work/worked) in motorsport - pagid pads work very well. mintex has dropped the ball since their 80's/90's peak.

The eternal issue with brake squeal is that there is alot of contributing factors, one of them being the friction material itself (which obviously is different on uprated pads) also things like backplate thickness, even half a mm difference to OE pads can introduce brake squeal - fact is pagid and mintex etc will not do any kind of refinement research into their material, only performance (if your lucky) so brake noise is always a hazard when selecting after market brakes

too late... just ordered mintex discs and pads as they were the cheapest, did a discs + pad package and guaranteed delivery for the weekend.

I'll let you guys know how I get on and give you my verdict on the mintex set up.

Thats crazy. Can't see why they would wear so quickly. I've had mine on my car for about 10-12000 miles and still plenty life left in them.

Yea, it is a possibility that it may of had something to do with my riving style :unsure:

And it may also be the same reason my last one ended up like this:

can anyone recommend the best place to get the pagid discs/pads in terms of price and speed of delivery? I need some before next wednesday!
 
I had installed Pagid brake discs, brake pads and brake fluid last week, purchased from eurocarparts, used a promotional code and saved myself £26 and plus I got an added bonus, I ordered one brake disc but got two instead for the price of one!

My OSF brake caliper was seized, and disc brake was warped. Got a repair kit and piston from BiggRed, and fitted and now I’m just bedding my brakes – they seem to bite quite nicely.
 
You can jack up the wheel you suspect, depress the brakes a couple of times and then see if the wheel turns freely by hand. Or once you've been for a short drive you can feel near the disc with your hand for excess heat compared to the opposite caliper, but be careful because they do get hot.
 
My minted pads squeeeeeel but that I can live with as for me they've been ace!!!
I've been trying to find a set up that suits my driving style for years now as I just seem to eat discs n pads like you wouldn't believe!!!
Ive tried red stuff and yellow stuff with various brands of discs but now I use mintex with brembo discs and so. Far they're it's the best set up I've used
Stay away from yellow stuff for everyday use they eat discs IMO

ive always used mintex discs and EBC red stuff pads...on both s3 and old type r. never had a squeel or sqeak.
 
Ferodo DS2500 or 3000's = dusty wheels but brill stopping power

so in one breath you suggest you are heavy on the brakes and in the next, you buy cheap mintex disks and pads

Do you like hedges?

i see your point. . . But this was a freak accident under bizare circumstances. It was also over 4 years ago, my driving has calmed down a wee bit since. And although the photographic evidence may not support this, you get a feel for the car and drive to the its capabilities. lets face it, your not going to be chucking a car about like it's on coilovers if its not.

I will await the thread where its all gone pete tong and you hate the mintex

(hope not of course for your sake) but on SCN the mintex have not fared well at all...

The coating is just a paint, The pads wear off the paint on their contact patch, the rest of the disc stays covered in paint and doesn't go rusty, keeps everything looking nice.

Vagtilldeath aka vagslag what was the verdict on the mintex if you can remember?
 
I have used both now. Personally I think Mintex are utter ****, no stopping power or feeling from them and hardly any improvement when warm.
Pagid are far better, I'm using Pagid pads with my lcr Brembos and they work brilliantly.
 
Pagid are OEM on Porsches (the Cayenne at least). Been using them with my 6 pots and no issues. Dust isn't too bad but it's always a trade off with pads anyway.
 
Pagid and Mintex are made by the same company TMD friction I personally prefer pagid
