8V VCDS Mods

Got a cheeky question but just wondered if there is anyone around the Notts area with VCDS as wouldn't mind a few bits doing.

Has anyone found out anything new yet? Any new mods at all? I am very interested in a definitive guide for TPMS and would be interested to know if you can alter the sensitivity of the rain sensor?

my biggest WANT is altering the sensitivity of the auto lights, did it quite easy on the 8P

To do this you need to recode the Light Rain and Humidity Sensor it seems. Am trying to work out how to do it as I type this. It's a Dec to Hex value translation but the major issue is that even with Beta 15.3 nothing in the LRHS is labeled for the moment lol

I have found the following method but have not tested as yet, might even be for a different car:

Adjust the light and rain sensor
STG 09 (vehicle power)
STG - RLS (Regen- und Lichtsensor) auswählen
Byte 0
Bit adjust accordingly 3-5

Lichteinschaltschwelle früher (20%)
Lichteinschaltschwelle früher (40%)
Lichteinschaltschwelle früher (60%)
Lichteinschaltschwelle früher (80%)

And to add some further information:
  • Byte 00: Rain Sensor Correction
  • Byte 01: Light Sensor Correction
  • Byte 02: Options

This would be great! As much as I love the automatic lights they come on far too early, even on the late setting

Surely you can never have your headlights coming on too early. Too late Yes, but too early!

yes, audi auto lights have always been far too sensitive and come on way too early

Sorry to disagree, but lights are both to see and be seen. Around dawn and dusk being seen is far more critical than having a beam of light by which to see!

  • Stop the dimming of the DRL LED beams when you turn on your indicator light (always full brightness)
STG 09
Access code 31347
Adaptation
(18)-Leuchte2SL VLB10-Dimmwert GH 2
Default: 30%. Set to: 100%.
(18)-Leuchte3SL VRB21-Dimmwert GH 3
Default: 30%. Set to: 100%.

  • Stop the dimming of the DRL LED beams when your xenon bulbs are lit (always full brightness) These are the same as sidelights.
STG 09
Access code 31347
Adaptation
(6)-Leuchte2SL VLB10-Dimmwert AB 2
Default: 30%. Set to 55%

  • Full brightness for the DRL LED beams when you turn on your left or right parking light
They are all the same, you just have to try different letters like CD, AB, or GH...
In this case it may be CD, and if you see the Leuchte part has numbers like 30, its the dimming %.

In my case I also have 100% LDR while coming/leaving home and I don't know the parking lights but they are also bright like the 60% I said earlier.
Its just a matter of trying inside the ones that have value 30%.

PD: Its very important that you dont set the Leuchte AB ones to 100% as you may blind drivers but I'm sure you will test and see it for yourself.

I am trying to code the DRL for the Xenon Headlamp so it doesn't wink, but whenever I try to change the code, i get an error for "incorrect message length or invalid format.

Does anybody with a US spec S3 have the proper coding or a solution for this?

Screencap of my error below.

If you get error with the value 0 try turning off the function of dimming it
I don't remember it by memory but when you're select the leuchte thing there is one that's like leuchte... Lichtfunktion G? Maybe
So go to the one that links the G letter to the function of dimming the lights with indicators and turn it off
Anyway I think your mixing stuff as my coding up there is for when you turn your indications

The factory setting on the US spec cars is to turn the DRL off (not dim) when the indicator is on-- I am actually trying to change it from 0 to 100.

I think I might be messing up the coding in that your codes are for Leuchte... where as in VCDS I only see "Light configuration." There are no Leutche's anywhere I see.

oof this is getting complicated, where is that fun check box for the DRLs in the B8 S4 =(

I see. Then try
Adaptation
(16)-Leuchte2SL VLB10-Lichtfunktion G 2
Default: Blinken linksaktiv (beide Phasen)
(18)-Leuchte2SL VLB10-Dimmwert GH 2
Set to: 100%.

(19)-Leuchte2SL VLB10-Dimming Direction GH 2
Default: ??? Set to:maximize.

(16)-Leuchte3SL VRB21-Lichtfunktion G 3
Default: Blinken rechts aktiv (beide Phasen)

(18)-Leuchte3SL VRB21-Dimmwert GH 3
Set to: 100%.

(19)-Leuchte3SL VRB21-Dimming Direction GH 3
Default: ??? Set to:maximize.

Tell me if theres any luck finding this adaptation options in your car.
Try going even lower than light configuration as its way below that zone

Thanks ChiYoung for all your help! You were right the Leuchte channels are towards the bottom and not in alphabetical order with the other adaptation channels.

I used:
Adaptation
(16)-Leuchte2SL VLB10-Lichtfunktion G 2
Default: Blinken linksaktiv (beide Phasen)
(18)-Leuchte2SL VLB10-Dimmwert GH 2
Set to: 100%.
(16)-Leuchte3SL VRB21-Lichtfunktion G 3
Default: Blinken rechts aktiv (beide Phasen)
(18)-Leuchte3SL VRB21-Dimmwert GH 3
Set to: 100%.

For these two: I set it to "minimize" so that when I turn on the headlights, it would stay at the natural dimmer setting at "100%" and not actually get brighter.
(19)-Leuchte2SL VLB10-Dimming Direction GH 2
(19)-Leuchte3SL VRB21-Dimming Direction GH 3

Now it looks perfect. THANKS!

If you don't switch off the DRL during indication, this will contravene FMVSS 108 in the USA and the equiv CMVSS in Canada :)

Just so you are aware.

I think police in the U.S. are too busy using unarmed black men as target practice to notice the dimming of a drl

The Secret Service must be the only agency in the US where they will get in trouble if a black man is shot ........

Anyways in Europe the % is 30 and has a cool dimming effect so the indications can be seen better, just to let you know

Has any new access codes been found? Really would love to get Dynamic mode working via the MMI to at least alter the steering feel.

Does anyone have a list of mods and coding for the 8p. A local guy is asking me to do a few things for him.

Cheers

I started using VCDS yesterday and I made lots of changes but I would like to change those listed things too but I couldn't find any solution.

Alarm Beep: My car is not equipped with alarm I guess so I want to hear a beep from car's horn for lock or unlock (In order to find car in car parkings)

Deadlock: Some say deadlock is default but it doesn't seem like for my car. I lock the car with
one press; you can open door from inside-
two press; still you can open door from inside. So no any option like that.

Used litters(or Remaining Litters): There was this option for Golf 7. I tried to open same Byte/Bit corresponding to Golf 7's option(The Bit 4 or 5 in Byte 10 was not there so I opened it with Binary Code). Not working

CC Speed: My car is equipped with CC not ACC. The minimum speed to activate is 20 kmh. I want this one to default to some lower speeds.

It's taken longer than I would have liked to get to this point, and indeed is currently still not complete, but here is the first version of the VCDS document I have been compiling:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/vqxra6zs2wu69in/VCDS Adaptations and Codings.pdf?dl=0

This is a "living" document and will be updated as time allows. Currently I have added pages for most of the Adaptations and Codings I have been working on with my own vehicle, however some are just placeholders at this point in time. These pages will be completed once I have fully documented the steps involved. There are also a number of codings which I am yet to add relating to retrofits and modifications which I have successfully completed, from Auto lights, Auto Wipers, Automatic Coming Home and Leaving Lights through to interior lighting upgrades and Body Work Styling changes.

I hope that this provides some help and assistance to everyone who is wanting to tweak their cars. Please feel free to throw any comments and feedback in my direction.

Fantastic work! Thanks very much. It's going to be more than useful for a lot of people. :thumbs up:

Been running with this mod for approx 4 weeks in London, with a few police cars behind me, and have not been pulled up on it...... yet :)

I also had a police van behind me today and never got stopped.

I expect that most of the old bill wouldn't even bat an eyelid as most wouldn't know that it's not legal and just think it's a funky new style indicator. Shameful really as most of the fuzz don't know the laws they are supposed to be enforcing! So fair do's to you and more fool them ;)

That only affects the lights when you lock/unlock the car right? It doesn't affect anything during normal driving?

Nope. If you complete the mod then your left / right and hazard indicators will function like this also.

My Coming Home and Leaving Home functions were open from factory.

I did some changes unintentionally and now when you lock doors at night:
DRL and Xenon and Fog Light illuminates for about 20-30 seconds
Back LED Lights illuminates for about 60 seconds.

Normally, they close at the same time.

What can I do to reverse this change?

Not seen an issue like this myself but I would reverse any changes that you have made, i.e. the CH and LH with Fog and Xenon back to just DRL (factory default) and test. There are also options in (9) Central Electronics for both CH and LH timers which you could check. 30secs for both is the factory default. Do not have the channel names / my notes to hand at the moment but all the ones you need start with:

Comfort illumination-Coming Home and Comfort illumination-Leaving Home + the specific function in German

When I retrofitted Auto Lights to my car I don't remember seeing a timer relating only to the rear lights of the car.
