New RS3 2017

To be fair, 37cm is quite a bit of length of you have a garage!

Depends on your garage. I can understand if you've bought the car based upon being able to get into your garage.
Probably the only reason you'd choose RS3 over RS4. The Sportback v Avant argument doesn't make sense as they are largely the same variant, just across different models.
That and budget.

I picked rs3 over the 4 because although I loved the v8 in my b7 its lazy and don't feel the power till your really going for it and into silly speeds the turbo rush of the three is much more fun. Love the b8 rs4 looks tho

I chose my RS3 mainly because of the engine (always been a 5-cylinder fan) and I prefer that size of car personally.

Everyone has a their own reasoning and opinions, but it's easier for some people to put everyone in the same "box" I guess...

I chose the RS3 because it just (as I've reported many times and was shocked to find) delivered everything I wanted as a road going vehicle so well - and RS3copilot agreed and still does.

And having driven all of the current 'R', 'S' and 'RS' Audi products on road, and some on track, I still find this RS3 still ticks all of my boxes: I'm not sure whether I find that frustrating or just makes me happy or maybe both; but for sure with 4.1/2 years of ownership/use gone I remain contented.

I genuinely think you need something mundane to run alongside the RS3 otherwise one just gets blasé about the car and wants, but doesn't necessarily need, more; the Audi RS3 is a cracker... :yahoo:

And that 5-pot engine; we're still looking for a TTRS ragtop :search: to run alongside the RS3

RS4 is THE classic RS model mate. Make no mistake my friend Jassy. Might be your best option seeing as there's no signs of a F/L RS3 in either sportback or saloon form for the UK. Either that, or the TTRS, which is always going to be a bit hairdo.

Don't get me wrong, I love the RS3 to bits (dream about Nardo and BSP, no offence to Floret Silver). However, if there was an RS4 or RS6 sitting there next to it and someone said pick?? No question it would be the RS4.

I'm a huge fan of the RS4 to be frank. Fit for purpose is all it is really. The RS4 is one of the best performance grand-tourers out there. And the sound....oh my....how can you really beat a naturally aspirated V8?

So it's not the fastest car out there right now. Who cares? It was at the top of the league when it first came out 5/6 years ago. Back then everyone was raving about it.

Looks wise, it's still sexy as hell.

Five years from now, when every car out there is a 4 cylinder with two small turbos that makes it sound like a Vespa, you'll be begging for an RS4. Cars like this are dying....fast.

Envy RS3/RS4 poppycock lol wouldn't give them the time of day now onwards upwards..... Trust me

Don Johnson would suit a TTRS right enough, fit in with his midlife crisis.

He he... do I detect green eyed monster Jassy:tonguewink:

Honestly hand on heart no not all l don't envy no one's car,l only carry a passenger in my car once in a blue moon so...a Avant and hatchback seem a bit overboard for me personally now in my mid life crisis lol
Your on about the new Rs4 well let's hope Audi do something a little more extreme externally on it coz it's a bland looking car indeed

I'm only joking Jassy, it's all good!
But I dunno about the blandness, I think it's got that beauty!

I think the Audi RS avant models look spectacularly good. If I could afford the £80k for an RS6, I'd be in one.

Me thinks @jassyo06 should have gone to Spec savers! ;) lol

That's the bad boy. Black pack all the way. What a beast.
Would love to see the new model, and the exterior styling options on it.

@jassyo06 - After having four new of the digit 4's continuously for the last 14 years its getting a bit hard to shake mate lol

Agree RS4s are great looking machines.
New one will be next car if I can keep the RS3 till then.
Never liked the look of the last TTRS to be honest but loved the TTS-its all about opinions as they say.

I do not agree with this statement 100%... I have a Scirocco R as my second car (which the Mrs uses as her daily driver), which is an accomplished and quick car with good handling. After driving this I always have a smile on my face, it's a good car.

However, the RS3 for me is something special, and the smile is soooo much bigger. Having a very capable second car makes you realise just how damned good the RS3 is!

So your second car is your wife's car?
That's not really a second car!

For me a second car needs to have huge character, and probably isn't actually something you want to drive all the time. Has to be special.
I'd never class any recent Audi (or VW) as ticking that box, although they make pretty decent daily drivers.

Sorry jassy, but I really don't understand your taste in cars. I had a bit of back and forth with you previously on the new C series coupe, which you also thought was ugly.

Maybe you should head to the WOG forums where people put massive spoilers on the back, and neon lights underneath. Sounds like you're more aligned to those kinds of cars.

Not every car has to scream out loud to look aggressive. If you don't think the RS4 is a mean looking machine, then I don't know what else to say.

OK, so our second car is a 2.0 TT quattro roadster 6-speed DSG that while fantastically good just doesn't have that little bit extra the RS3 does and so each time you jump back into the RS3 you feel the RS3 is just so much more; and our third car is an A1 Black edition with 185BHP and 7-speed DSG and that's just manic yet again getting back into the RS3 is just so much more.

Previous to the A1 we had an A2 90bhp diesel and that handled like a go kart and in no way could compare with the A1, its replacement, but still remained FUN.

Mundane was probably the wrong word to use...

Enjoy that RS3...

Old RS4 just seen oldman because it was slow and hamstrung by that weak engine relative to its weight.

Once the new bi-turbo is released it will be a completely different kettle of fish

It was my main car for 4 years until the RS3 arrived, she had a VW Up before that and we decided to keep the Scirocco, so I still class it as my second ;-)

Well finally here are some pics of the saloon version which is being tested prior to releasing both the hatch and saloon.
400 BHP is coming folks get ready with your deposits

Well I'm glad I am not waiting for news on a face lift RS3.
The lack of information coming through would be doing my head in lol.
It is feeling more & more like it will be Autumn 2017 especially with all focus being on the TTRS now through to early next year.
It may have been 7 months of torture wiating for my RS but I'm over the moon with it and 5.5 months into ownership it is BY FAR the best car I have ever owned & driven ... looks ace, sounds amazing, goes like a rocket, is practical, feels special & provides endless enjoyment :)

No no Jassy you're looking at a thoroughbred there mate. I'd love to see what the new RS4 will look like.

I don't think it comes down to the badge it's the practicality of it, and the awesome performance that we all look for.

Reckon one of them has my name on when they materialise. Saying that I saw a beautiful 65 plate M5 earlier today... serious piece of kit. Might make a few enquires...:sunglasses:

A few year old M5 goes for seriously cheap money, £35k for a low mileage 13 plate. Stealthy too.

low mileage 18 month old RS6's go for the same price as a new spec'd RS3

both cars suffer from the same problem, monumental running costs and legendary depreciation

which is a real shame as an RS6 with air suspension is my perfect daily driver, but i can't justify £200 a week in petrol lol :( or buying a car that will depreciate the cost of an RS3 in 3 years.

As much as respect the RS4 it's not my type of car just because of its size, only on one occasion someone has sat in my rear seats, again l am in a similar dilemma l want a ttrs but only if Audi give some discount it's mightily expensive.....

Round my way the S3/RS3 & GolfR seem to have a terrible image. There's quite a few around from people renting them and racing them around. Someone crashed one a few weeks ago and the backlash in the comments on FB and the local newspaper about how typical it was to see them racing was an eye-opener. I don't think the RS4/6 has the same image problem.

Had a Sepang RS3, fully loaded pull out of the car park opposite my office. Managed to get the window open and he kindly obliged by giving it the beans. Boy oh boy, it really is the best sounding car you can buy, V8's included!

Exactamundo. The sound from these cars is fantastic. Overshadows most cars to be fair. It actually sounds better than some
supercars, but don't forget, it is a sub 4sec car anyway.........so it's in that league in my opinion.
