The Avant Project - A Work In Progress.

Are you sure it was cut and isnt the Toe bar diffuser? there is 2 versions of the diffuser, one for with a toe bar(has a square cut out to accomodate the toe bar) and one for without.

Am definitely sure it's not the one with the cut out as I have seen them online. Mine has been cut with a hack saw up to the honeycomb bit and it looks nasty if you look closely! For some reason my bike rack constantly grounds when am pulling out of petrol stations so I don't think it's the correct tow bar for the car.

I like the idea of a removable one so I can take it off when not needed plus the car looks better. I don't suppose any of you guys know where I can order a rear valance with the tow bar cut out? cheers

Use the parts request section in the top navigation bar :)

Nice avant there mate, do you know if the place you had the revo done is still open? I'm not to far away from you

As far as I know its still open, the Revo map wasn't cheap but the difference in performance is night & day.

Hey guys, am liking this thread a lot as am planning on tidying up my metallic grey 2009 Avant over the next few month and this thread has given me some good idea's.

I have owned the car for a few years but it's been a bit neglected and it's got a few scuffs and shopping trolley dings but it is 7 years old. So am booking it into the body shop to have the front bumper resprayed and I like the idea of having the front splitter paint black so I will have that done too. Someone knocked my wing mirror a few month back and it's got a nasty scrap so I will have them painted black. I also got a local guy that's good at removing dents so I will have him work on the car to remove the annoying ding in the passenger door. He is also runs his own detailing company so once the car has been resprayed it will go in for a stage 1 detail.

There was a rear tow bar fitted to the car when I bought it but the previous owner must have had it fitted on the cheap as the rear valance has been cut for the tow bar to fit! So since I use the tow bar for my mountain bike rack am planning on fitting a Westfalia detachable tow bar and buying a new rear valance of ebay and having that painted black when the car is in the body shop.

I will look into a remap and spacers for the wheels at the end of the year and oh yeah I read about replica alloys don't buy them! I have a set with winter tires on them and when I removed them this spring one of them as got a huge dent from running through a pot hole. Strange thing is I don't recall hitting any big pot holes so I think there really soft. I have the TT RS replica's and they have really badly corroded and that's only after two years so I will be putting the winter tires on the OEM wheels and looking at new wheels next spring.

Anyway I will include some before and after pictures when I start the work

Thanks for liking the thread, i've got many of my ideas from others on this forum, do you have your own build thread yet?

it becomes addictive, i've spent in excess of £2k & thats without wheels, B14 GJR has been neglected a bit recently as ridiculously busy with work, but should have a quiet few months coming up, so she'll get some attention soon!

I've got a few other things planned, so looking forward to getting on with those!

Afternoon All,

Unfortunately due to work commitments the Avant has been somewhat neglected over the past few months, however when the little red jets depart overseas at the end of this month I'll get back to it...

So what's in store..

Looking to fit some Gloss Black tips to my standard exhaust, don't really think its worth going full aftermarket exhaust on my 2.0TDi (re-mapped).

Fit the interior footwell lighting kit i bought from Trups a while back. (Does anyone have a decent installation guide? (+Coding to switch them on, anyone got a VCDS near Lincoln, that could help me out?).

Fit the LED Indicators & Reverse Bulbs (+Coding as required, anyone got a VCDS near Lincoln, that could help me out?)

Colour code my rear callipers to match the Red S4's i've got fitted to the front, along with painting all the calliper guards.

Look at integrated or aftermarket DAB Installations, can't bear the constant interference on Radio 5 or Talksport, (Any suggestions, don't want to pay the earth though!).

Potentially paint the side blades gloss black to match the rest of the car.

Make & Fit a short front plate holder to the RS4 Grille.

Not to mention, a Full Interior/Exterior Valet...

I think that should keep me busy enough!

I am in the same boat, shortened plate on the front. I was going to dremal the existing plate holder shorter, plastic glue it back together then sand and paint... but when i come to sell the car I will no longer have a long plate holder to put back the old reg... currently using a DIY reusuable cable ties stuck to the back of my number plate.

Depending on how permanent you want the plate (whip it off for shows or leave it on all the time), you can fashion something easily, I want mine removable like the long one i modified, so thinking I will make the clips like on my old holder, with software and sending it off to a 3d printing company, then attach the new clips to a flat base plate.

Other guy on here 'mac' made a more permanent solution making a ali strip of metal, drilled holes through, bolted it through the huney comb and stuck the plate to the ali plate.

Did you ever get the oil caps by the way?

Just had a re-read through your build thread, epic car you've got, a lot of time & effort has gone into that!

Ordered a new set of 3D Gel plates, just standard length for now to get rid of the issue with the water ingress with the rear plate, once my work quietens down & I'll manufacture a short length holder for the front, probably something similar to what you've done!

Never did get the oil caps, but have just treated myself to a BlackVue DR650gw-2ch off the classifieds on here (Cheers xpoweruk), so looking forward to getting that fitted in the next few weeks, amongst a long list of things to do, once things quieten down at work.

Hope all is well with you.

Well its been a while, but eventually got around to completing some of the tasks above...

- LED Indicators are fitted & look much better than the originals.
- Rear calipers are now painted in Satin Black with Silver caliper guards.
- 3D Gel plates fitted front & rear.

Hopefully post some photo's up tomorrow.

Hi Gareth, do you have part number for the MTEC rear disc's?

JG

Morning,

Sorry for the late reply, I'm just back from the Falkland Islands, I've had the joy of serving down the for the last three months with the RAF.

Ax for the part no for the discs, I haven't got it to hand I'm afraid, I purchased them from the MTEC website.

Evening mate, I'm an Av by trade, you? Its my first time down south in almost 19 years in, so can't complain. I'm currently back in the UK on compassionate leave, but due to fly back out at the end of the month for my last three weeks & handover etc...

I rate the MTEC discs, although i have seen the occasional post of them chewing through pads, although seem fine with my EBC Redstuff all round at present.

Nice to see a project which has covered a number of things I am planning on my Silver Avant, allows me to vision my plans :)
