First auto, how does everything work?

Hi, apart from rental cars on visits to America where i never messed with anything and tested some cars recently where i again just left it in drive and never changed anything, ive never owned an automatic. I understand Park, Drive, Reverse and Neutral however how does the rest work?

1. Whats the difference between Drive and Sport mode? How do you activate between them?

2. Whats Dynamic mode do and how do you switch that on?

3. Do the steering wheel pedals work in all modes, so i can just flick them up and down at any time to take control? And how do i switch back to auto?

I read that the launch control reqires you to put the car into dynamic, turn traction control fully off, foot on brake then foot hard on accelerator for atleast a second then release brake when at 3000rpm, is this all correct? And i believe you can do this in D and S mode but its faster inS mode so why not.

Thanks for the help.

1) flick the gear lever back when in drive. Drive dulls throttle response. Sport sharpens things up and gives full engine power

2) press the car button on the centre console and use the rotary dial to switch to dynamic

3) yes. After a certain time with no throttle input it reverts to drive or you can pull back on the gear stick. If you want manual all the time push the gear stick to the left when it's in the drive position. The car will still change down manually even if you don't

4) yeah and also switch off the start stop. The engine has to be up to full temperature too

I'm guessing launch control is only available on the RS6? Not such as the 2.0 Tdi

There is a video of it in action on my build thread ;)
Great, thanks.
Was it an optional extra or a standard feature of the s tronic box?

I believe reading into it all, launch control is available on all models now but you have too have the engine up to temperature, steering straight, dynamic mode (I don't believe you need to put it in manual), DSC off, works in D or S mode, Foot hard on the brake, Foot hard on the accelerator it will hold at 3000-4000 rpm (depending on the engine) hold for 1 second (and no more than 5), release the brake and you are off.

There used to be a counter which only allowed you too do it a number of times a good few years ago but it's not the case anymore. This is all from many sources I've been reading and as mentioned there are youtube videos on it showing it working in many different audis and engine combinations.

Think it's an official LC on the stronic, you can fudge it with a ZF, but I believe in that, the 3000 rpm launch limit is a "safe" mode as the car thinks you've got your foot on the accelerator by mistake and dials down the power to stop you launching into the car / person / wall in front at full tilt when you take your foot off the brake.

Look forward to trying it when my new baby arrives. :)

Thanks Geordie.

Tips what car/engine/trim have you gone for?
