Currently looking at purchasing the facelift 3 door s-tronic S3. Any ideas on what i could expect in fuel efficiency?

Do regular motorway mileage with work!

I think, if you have to ask that question, then perhaps the S3 isn't the right idea ;)

You should "in theory" be able to get high 30s/low 40s on a sedate motorway run, if you're careful. But if you are really bothered what MPG you might attain, why not just get a "normal" S Line?

The bonus with the facelift and s-tronic is the very tall 7th gear - should make quite a difference if you are doing high motorway miles - as above if you drive reasonably sedately I'd expect those numbers.

Probably low-mid 30s at a guess

That's based on PFL though and obviously depends how you drive

Thanks for the feedback guys. Currently have a 2013 Daytona Grey sline which i reluctantly bought instead of the last S3.

Thinking its time to take the plunge now and high 30's on a motorway run sounds reasonable!

Now the next question, Navarra Blue or not?

I'm biased here, but yes Navarra Blue ;)

My second choice was Daytona, third would have been Floret.

In the end I opted for Navarra as it's an S3 only colour, don't want to go getting confused for a diesel S Line now do I :p

Exactly my thinking!

Almost set on the Navarra only seen it in a 5 door but its grown a lot on me.

As luck may have it iv found a garage with a 3 door s-tronic ready to go!

I take your point - but let's face it - anyone who knows that Navarra is S3 only knows the visual differences between a S3 and a S-line too ;)

Ok, so I'm perhaps being deliberately obtuse, but you know Navarra makes sense :D

Thats good! how do you find it sounds? Heard they are louder than the old shape?

Nardo grey looks good i must add!

1100 miles now and averaged anywhere between 33mpg on 5 mile trips to 41mpg on the motorway. Did 220 miles yesterday mixed between A roads, stuck in city traffic, steady queuing, steady 80mph / 20 miles at 50mph with roadworks on the motorway, averaged an indicated 38.5mpg.
Will now feel comfortable taking it to 5000rpm and with the cold weather coming I'll be expecting the economy to drop off.
We followed a Nano FL S3 into the Trafford Centre car park last Sunday, anyone on here?

Thats good mate! You gone for the navarra? 3 or 5 door?

@Matt Titanium very true about slightly lower mpg over winter. I guess by spring next year they will have a few more miles under their belt and so should start to improve.

A chance for another gratuitous photo to answer your question.

Any ideas on the service costs/requirements guessing an additional service will be required for the s-tronic gear box??

Sound is low key but deep in S mode and in dynamic drive. I have been in my pals 2015 S3 and dont think there is a significant difference tbh

i have also just ordered a 3door in navarra blue - actually called them a week after to cancel and get a white as one as so unsure about the colour.... Dealer principal talked me back into it and to be honest is growing on me more and more....

mpg in the 20's is going to be strange to get used to though as currently drive a diesel volvo c30 but i thought f*ck it, you only live once :)

I doubt you'll achieve 40mpg on motorway driving if you drive around 70-80 (obviously on Autobahns...)

However I did achieve a tank of 30mpg with a very spirited drive over the Pennines and back :-D

No chance of 40 then? What are you averaging on the motorway?

I love these threads, 34.5 MPG in normal conditions (traveling to work, mostly dual carriageway) 42.7 MPG on the motorway (traveling from Newcastle to Galloway forest park, mostly single carriageway A roads, so not really motorway) circa 18.5 - 19 MPG driving with a lead foot.

My car is manual, so it supposed to be less efficient than a S-tronic, maybe add 1 or 2 MPG for S-tronic.

I think the S-tronic on paper might be 1-2 mpg higher because it can "free wheel" in Economy mode. I have a suspicion the manual might be better in real world driving tho....?

Are you even moving to get 35 mpg? I might buy 30 mpg if you drive on a highway while being really careful while accelerating, and having a decently low speed.

easy achieve over 35mpg + motorway driving, around 70, had 40 on a longer run, still undecided whether eco-mode is better on economy. Also, does anyone know what the battery icon is all about on your mpg trip? generally will go into the green area when coasting in gear and no in eco-mode

I used eco mode once, it is dangerous in case you need to accelerate. Nothing happens when you put your foot down so I can understand why it achieves some mpg.

That will only be on the S&Tonic box though...?

Haven't tried the manual so I would not know but a fair guess is yes. I love acceleration though so I am usually in dynamic/manual if I feel I will want to pass people now and then on the highway.

Eco mode apparently also changes the air-con. I know it also changes throttle response so not just an auto thang

Yep, I Don't drive at a ridiculous low speed either, I just accelerate progressively (read as slowly), and its the acceleration that uses the fuel.

When I drive I am in no immediate rush, or I have a passenger/s, and nailing the throttle at every opportunity doesn't make for a pleasant passenger experience.

I have driven on some fantastic B roads last weekend, but I managed to have fun, not exceed the speed limit and do so without using tonnes of fuel.

Effectively its a personal thing, I get what I want out of the way i drive, but it'll not appeal to everyone, which is fair enough. I'll drive the way I drive and everyone else can do it the way they want.

<edit>

So i have just driven home from the Silverlink (where I was working today) to Birtley which is 14.5 miles, this is my usual commute.

I recorded this MPG. I didn't do anything differently, just drove "normally";

Also I just noticed how dusty my dash is... oh the shame of it.

Down shifting with the new exhaust on the facelift S3 is way to addictive though, probably where most of my fuel is going :racer::whistle2:

I've found that 40 mpg on a long busy motorway run with passengers, speed cameras, roadworks etc easily achievable in a manual without particularly trying. Similar journey with a PFL s-tronic saloon last year with similar mileage on the clock - mid 30s. Also getting around 5mpg more driving to work without trying.
I bought the car for driving pleasure and because I can - not to worry about the mpg. Being way more economical than I was expecting is just a bonus - and being a manual I don't get that embarrassing manufactured farty noise when it changes gear;).

What range are you seeing from a full tank?

... and please, sort out that dusty dash :D

Like I stated in another thread I only ever 3/4 fill the tank, but i'll check the range when i do, i have 1/2 a tank left and its saying 240 miles range (not that i trust the range estmate)

I'll clean the interior tomorrow, exterior was filthy when i got back from Galloway, so i focused on that.
