Hi all I have recently purchased my first Audi after having many years of bmw ownership. I recently owned a BMW E39 M5 but due to a change in career & commuting a lot more I needed something more economical.

So here's what I've gone for

It's a 2010 A3 2.0tdi 140 S-Line Black edition.......so far I'm really impressed.

I was looking at bmw's for the same money & realised there were a lot of horrible examples about that were very basic so decided I'd break my mould & try something different.
I'm glad I have, the car A3 is everything I was looking for and the interior is leaps & bounds ahead of BMW's flat slabbed boring dashboard......the Audi's steering wheel wins hands down for me

One thing I would like to change though is the fact that I can't stream my music via Bluetooth, I obviously have the AUX input & the iPod dock in the glovebox but would really like to stream my Spotify playlists via the stereo/steering controls instead of having to look at my iPhone every time I want to change the track.

My question is simple really.....is this possible to do? And if so how do I go about it?

Any input would be greatly appreciated & I look forward to interacting with some fellow Audi enthusiasts in the not so distant future

Thanks
Dom

Tune2air is the answer. When I brought my s3 8p I wanted Bluetooth music and that's the best way. It's not cheap compared to some but it works spot on

Thanks I will look into these, is there a particular model I should be looking for & does it just plug into the iPod dock in the glovebox?

Yeah t plugs into the glove box and that's it. I couldn't believe mine had Bluetooth phone but not for music. Pretty poor for a car made in 2012!! I have screen shotted a photo of the one that I brought so should fit yours aswell

Yeah it's a bit disappointing to not have the music Bluetooth option
The one you have sent me looks like it has a different connection to an iPod. My car has the built in iPod dock that comes with various different fitting s to accommodate different models of iPods. I'm pretty sure I just have a 30pin plug in the glovebox

I think I've just worked out, that's a female connector on the end of that lead that plugs into the iPod connection on the car?
Does it work well, do you use Spotify at all?

I'm sure they are all 30 pin . Mine came with a connector to go from 30 pin to usb. There's a small door you open and unplug what ever is in there and that's where the tune2air goes. I don't know wether anything changed over the years of the 8p but mine was a late one. They do various connections from what I remember. I only came actoss to tune2air after researching the same problem and it was well regarded by Audi drivers with the same problem as the best solution

Didn't see this before a replied but that's what I just replied about . Unplug everything and the tune2air will fit. I use deezer which is another music streaming app and is works perfectly . Never had a problem and it works in sync when I get a phone call through the in car system. Something the cheaper models don't do + works with steering wheel controls / shows albums songs on midnight screen ( if you have one )

What's the MMI?

I have the Concert 2+ without Bluetooth but do have the FBMFSW and 30-Pin iPod in the glovebox

Does the Tune2Air work with the Bluetooth button on the steering wheel?

If I press the button it says function not available??

I think there's a bit of crossed wires(!) there fella. I think Dannymoto may just have the oldskool iPod adapter in the glovebox which pretends to be a CD changer and the Amazon screenshot above is for the Audi Music Interface (AMI) that was an different option...they provide completely different expericences. The older dock won't give you and tracknames in the car but a bluetooth streamer would be ok if you were happy to control completely from the ipod / iphone, as long as it was compatible the original 30-pin connectors...

The bluetooth button on the steering wheel is purely for the factory phone kit. Later Black Editions came with phoneprep as standard, but 2010 era didn't :-(

AMI was only an option with the RNS-E satnav so if you've got factory ipod with Concert 2+ it will definitely be the older, dumber interface...

There's the answer then . Mine works fine but like I said befor it's a 2012 car with AMI ( not mmi as I quoted ) . Thanks for clearing that up

Another newbie here :) A bit confusing all this, also thinking about buying a tune2air but just to make sure, will I be able to use the control buttons on the steering wheel (change song) on my 2008 S3 or not? I assume I got the old interface since I also have concert 2+ and a stock iPod connector in the glove box.

Or is it just for pure audio streaming without possibility to control anything?

Thought I got the hang of it but the latest replies in this thread made me a bit confused :p

Was planning on using Spotify on my iPhone and it would be great if I could control the next/previous buttons as well.

It's tricky, but I looked at the WMA1000 and I still think its aimed at AMI (or equivalent) fancy, full ipod interface capable headunits (but I could be wrong). The limitation is the older dock is only able to send track numbers and CD numbers to the headunit...there's a possibility that the music will be piped through to the headunit but control would only be forward/back with no visual indication apart from on the ipod screen what is actually playing....

Maybe someone has experience with it in this form, but all the docs talk about full integration and not this half-***** style that Audi/VW used to do...

Ok thanks for the information. I guess i have to try to get to know :) Regardless of steering wheel controllers it's nice to get rid of the aux cable.

There are much much cheaper ways if you're just wanting Bluetooth than paying that price.

You can just get a Bluetooth to USB from eBay and plug it in your cig lighter and connect the aux.

Yes of course, but then i would still be listening to non digital audio transmitted digitally later on in the chain :) Forgot to mention that but one of the ideas was also to get rid of the classic "aux noise" and such by going via the ipod connector directly to bluetooth.

This is exactly the same boat as I'm in, I basically want to be able to wirelessly play Spotify & change tracks using either the stereo controls or the steering controls. I'm not fussed of the stereo displays the track or not, I'd just keep Spotify on random select & flick through the songs until I want to keep a particular track on.

I have been looking around for some solutions today and i think there a few different solutions but the one i'll probably go for is the one from Grom.
http://gromaudio.co.uk/audi-seat-skoda-vw-usb-android-integration-kit-424.html

This kit should fit out of the box in the back of the concert 2 unit and you'll be able to use the controls on the steering wheels. Had one of these in a previous car and it worked like a charm for many years. Even though it's bit pricy i still think it's one of the best choices. Like i said, i think i'll go for this one.

Of course, the Tune2Air is also a possible solution but since i cant figure out if the whole control thing on the steering wheel will work im not totally convinced about it.

Also the kit that was linked earlier in this thread will do the job i think.

This is exactly what you need for what you are wanting to do, the grom just plugs into the cd changer port and away you go, Dension also do one of these but a bit more expensive I think.
I looked into this exact same thing but ended up going for an android headunit the ones you see plenty of on eBay, it has Bluetooth built in which works for calls and streaming music and also works with all the steering wheel controls, sat nav is built in you just pick which app you want to use for it and the actual headunit is built for the a3 so just fits straight in the car without any extra fascias or anything and mine also has dab. It did cost me about £300 which sounds like it's a lot more than what you want to spend but for what you get it is definitely worth it and these units in my opinion are far superior to what you get with oem Audi options on the 8p.
