Why do Detailing on an already excellent finish. Should Valeting be enough?

Little puzzled here to why people pay £450+ to get it detailed on a finish that already looks stunning.

Should polishing/waxing & washing regularly be enough to keep the paintwork looking in ‘like’ new condition.

It's all perspective i guess. One person's stunning is anothers filthy. I see detailing as being 2 things; paint correction or doing the finer details.

So my car has good corrected paint and gtechiq sealants so i can get an awesome finish with a simple wash but then when i do the T1 on the tyres, condition the leather, black the window trim and polish the pipes that is me detailing it.

My wife's new Golf came from the dealers with a fair selection of scratches. Not my idea of an excellent finish.

I think what is a better question is why people pay £450+ for the dealer applied products which take them 20 minutes to apply as the valet staff are under pressure to do as many cars as quickly as possible.

For the same money a detailer will take 1-2 days to properly prep, clean, polish and seal a new car's finish. In addition the coatings are superior to what the dealer has. That represents a better investment to me.

Because a car from a dealership will have far from perfect paint finish even if it is brand new and will require correction and then a sealant to keep it that way. Any dealer supplied sealant is usually expensive, applied incorrectly and unlikely to correct the factory defects in the paintwork. Once a detail has been completed correctly then it is far easier to maintain for years.
I have seen first hand how a certain dealership prepares it's new cars or washes vehicles in for work and it is truely horrifying..

I work in a Land Rover dealership, and love taking care of my own car.

To be honest 9 times out of 10 the cleaners are sub-contracted and are essentially the same as your £7 local spit and shine in a superstore car park!

As suggested above don't take out the paint protection, definitely get hold of a reputable detailing company in your area and get a full paint correction and ceramic coating applied or such like. So much better a way to spend £500 quid!
