Hi all,

After seeing all of the amazing cars on show yesterday at AITP9, I have decided that I will start modding my A3 and then buy it at the end of my PCP agreement :D

The first thing I am looking at getting is carbon/gloss black mirror caps and some black alloys!

Ideally I want them to be gloss black alloys and not too spokey as they're a pain to clean. Has anyone got any brand suggestions? I would love it if I could just swap my current tyres over.

Thanks :)

Steven

You don’t need to wait for those... mirrors and wheels can be swapped back easily, it’s not a mod that will null your warranty.

Was just about to post my thread for the caps.

Keep in mind with warranty and a remap, remap will lose you your engine warranty. I made a call at the end of my A3 warranty, extend or map it.... it got mapped. Would never do that with the S3/RS3, potential huge repair costs if it went bang.

Also black wheels won't stay clean, they will lose their shine instead of looking black. Matt grey is the best way to go, need to get really dirty before they look it.

That's a good point mate, might wait until the warranty is over then :) Looking for alloys is harder than it seems so I'm still looking and seeing my options!

I've got to disagree with you on that. I had black gloss alloys on my old Focus ST and they were really easy to maintain, never lost their shine (used to polish them with the car lol) and never really looked dirty, even when the car was (it was white!). I'd have black wheels again in a heartbeat.

Really? Surprised about that. Never been a huge fan of black wheels, so I'm the wrong person to comment anyway really.

I'm glad you've been there and done that with the black alloys. I think they'll look great with the Audi carbon mirror caps and my privacy glass :D Did the black alloys look good on a white car?

Judge for yourself

I need them in my life! I'm ordering some genuine carbon Audi mirror caps as they look amazing :) Now just need to sort out some rims for the September pay day :atm:

I did later get the mirror caps painted black aswell as the front grills... couldn't find a picture of them though.

Hahaha I see what you mean! :tearsofjoy: I've ordered them so I'm hoping they look alright when I see them against the car. If not I'll ship them back and have another look :sunglasses:

Sounds good, post some pictures up :p

I agree with @AudiNutta on that one. I think it's because they're 'matt' black, rather than a polished gloss black. and the spokes at the end are a little thin for my tastes. But, it's your car mate, whatever you like at the end of the day! :) Just get some pictures up once they've arrived!

I guess we'll all have to see what they look like. I'm still not 100% sure but the choice was crazy... I quite like the simple design as they'll be easy to clean. The big gaps mean my painted calipers (when I do it) will be nice and easy to see  I'll be sure to post some pictures as I know you all love them

Sorry, but they look terrible IMO, silver wheels, especially some that dont look like they came from a ripspeed summer blowout sale would look 100% better.

:shutup2:

I have always preferred manufacturer wheels, it's not very often they don't get it right. I don't like the 'aftermarket' look at all, some nice genuine alloys are all an already stunning car needs.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I agree that they look odd at the moment. Once the callipers are painted red though, I think the whole look will change for the better :)

The standard alloys were nice but a nightmare to clean well and a real upset if one was kerbed :( The picture I posted wasn't the best either, they look good IRL!

@GTAIVgunner I'm not keen either mate tbh, but as long as your happy. What would probably help imo, is if they were polished black and had an OEM centre-cap.

The calipers getting painted red will just add to the cheap Halfords modding look, unfortunately. Nothing worse than drawing attention to bog standard calipers.

The only time I've had painted calipers was on my 2003 Seat Leon Cupra R, and it had 4-pot brembos, it still looked a little OTT.

Nobody likes them! :dizzy: I'm really hoping the red callipers will give the gaps some reasoning as that's what looks bizarre at the moment :grimacing:

They're not for me either mate sorry, it's your car though and the main thing is that you like them. After all it'd be a boring world if we all liked the same :grinning:

You're in the wrong crowd for this kind of look I am afraid, you are in an expensive Audi owners club haha. Paint your callipers by all means, but go black! Red will only show how small the callipers are IMO, because otherwise they aren't something that would spring to attention. Black callipers are nice, they help with the clean look and look classy.

Or silver to go with his car

Hate to add to the misery... but not a fan of these alloys at all lol. OEM FTW.
