What have you done today?

tried to install the big turbo setup but realised Ive got the wrong exhaust manifold.:stupid:

Not quite today but finished off processing pictures I took at the Castle Combe race day on Sunday... was a bit of a challenge as I took my 70-200 f2.8 this time rather than my usual 100-400 lens... I also took a few shots with my AE-1 film camera but will have a to wait a couple of weeks for those to be processed :)

cylinder 1&4 coil packs failed today; and to add insult to injury the resulting bucking bronko driving experience ended up tearing the neck of a fairly new Jetex filter

Left taillight was out on the A3. Was at gasstation, so bought a new bulp and went to pull it out and replace, ended up with breaking the glass part clean off the cap. Found out cap was rusted in place inside the socket and wouldnt come out. Got annoyed and tried picking it out with a screwdriver which resulted in the aluminum backplate which is suppose to keep the bulp in place broke off its flimsy plastic mounting points as well, **** me. Will have to try and get creative with some zipties tomorrow, dunno about heat tho.

Oil and coolant change ready for brands hatch on tomorrow !

I videoed the full solar eclipse in August 11 1997 - before going home to film my youngest son being born.
Last year I jokingly said that it is one of the few occasions the devil can be born again on earth, I googled it and yep he is effectively a death cult icon :D :D

Why would you want to do that?

picked these up, 312mm set up from a TT, I probably dont need it as im not really someone that drives fast, but it will look pretty good once i get new alloys, and improve the braking by a fair margin hopefully.

the discs will need skimming though.

Quick wipe over after the respray, I'm really happy with how it's turned out :) I had the plastics painted a dark grey satin so no more fading :) front seats are getting a retrim at the moment then that's her finished :)

Finally got onto a job I have been planning to do since I got the A2...

Drivers side headlight is a state...
20170903-96dpi-20170903_102235.jpg

...so removed it to refurbish it... using a combination of wet and dry from 400 to 3000 grit I rubbed the lens down to an even finish all over...

I started with 400 grit... this was mainly down to how bad the light was... if it was less clouded I would normally start from 1000 grit...
20170903-96dpi-20170903_110237.jpg

..then work up though 800, 1000, 2000, 3000 to remove as much of the scratches and imperfections you can
20170903-96dpi-20170903_111648.jpg

...then a few passes with compounding polish..
20170903-96dpi-20170903_112348.jpg

...and finally a few passes with a finishing polish...
20170903-96dpi-20170903_113817.jpg

As doing this removes the UV protection (the bit that ironically goes yellow over time causing this in the first place!) I decided to use a UV fast clear lacquer to coat the lens with... I IPA'd over it first to remove polish residue
20170903-96dpi-20170903_120856.jpg

Unfortunately due to various reasons (4 year old lacquer, damp conditions, any other random excuse I can think of!) the lacquer bloomed a bit and didn't dry with a particularly smooth finish... shame as I have used this lacquer in the engine bay of my S3 and is still holding up despite my best efforts... so I used a heat gun to assist in drying and left it a couple of hours to flash off...

I then rubbed it down with 2000 and 3000 grit until smooth and refinished with the compounding/finishing polishes as before... it didn't get rid of all the imperfections though...
20170903-96dpi-20170903_140657_HDR.jpg

...but its night and day better than before...
20170903-96dpi-20170903_140640.jpg

Refitted it to the car... as you can see its quite different to the passenger side light (which I will now have to do as well!!!)

Wrong sub-forum mate, you're looking for the A2 section...

But since you're the only member there, I guess here is just as good :p

Actually posted it in A2OC as the A2 section is dead... and it is 'what I have done today'..

I would imagine in a previous life you could have been a comedian... :)

Looks much better PT, nicely done. Shame the lacquer caused a few minor niggles at the end, but nothing a bit more cutting and a blind eye won't fix!

I had planned on spending today fitting an exhaust to the LCR and tidying things up a little since they were left a little messier than I'd have liked during a rushed engine swap last week. Rain stopped play, so instead I've been sorting through thousands of photos trying to shortlist things in order to replace images after Photobucket headaches.
Going to sack of SCN and E38 (as they're dead and too scene for me respectively) but not sure where to put things instead. Think I'll host the images myself, but would like to keep a thread going somewhere for that warm community feel you only get on forums (or at least used to).

Would the car be welcome here on ASN despite the wrong badge on the front, or better to throw it up on UK-MkIVs/CGTI/similar?

Not the Ovni yellow one, they fade...

Its a skoda octavia without a boot... much like a golf or an A3 :)

There is a VW & other VAG section plus the Project room you can use to deposit a thread... no reason why you can't ask relevant questions in 8L as its the same platform albeit a mix of A3 and S3

I don't personally have an issue with you starting a thread in 8L but if one person does it then how long before we end up turning 8L into barry boys (other than when someone wants to fit an 8P front bumper of course but they tend not to last long)

We are all car enthusiasts at the end of the day I am fine with you being here... despite what Prawn has told me... and not having much power or AWD... :)

It's been so long since I came on here via the front page I'd not actually checked either of the subforums for a while. shall pop my head in and stick a thread up once I've sorted through it all.

No need for anything of my own in the 8L section though - I can do all the heckling I need via Nick's thread ;)

Your DV sounds broken

<tuffty/>

I know its sounds, but working. irony is that recently I replace it with one from S4.
when I disconnect the DV vacuum line it becomes louder. maybe DV dosnt fully function since I dont have
any vacuum leak in system so the DV diaphragm isnt ruptured.

It won't show up as a leak as such... you can test the DV by pushing the piston right up with your finger and put a finger over the vac outlet... release the piston and it should stay open due to the vacuum being held by your other finger... if it just shuts then the diaphragm has gone

<tuffty/>

I test it in the easier way :
running engine ( vacuum line connected) = piston up, aka open
disconnect the vacuum line ( likewise WOT, under boost) = piston down aka closed
gonna double check tomorrow.

just for comparison here my DV is totally gone, my engine dosent works good in idle total mess
also its over boosted with MBC BUT factory air box and you cant hardy hear any noise.

Diverter valve is broken there dude, should be a nice clean chussssssh! no flutter...
