Am toying with the idea of getting a 2008> A4 B8 Avant S Line, Sat Nav, Petrol with around 100-130k miles, service history etc.

Are there any know problems with these so i know what to avoid i.e injectors problems, oil pumps, costly repairs.
Looking to spend £6500.

Am hoping i can get 40mpg out of a petrol with remap.

Avoid 2.0t with cvt altogether unless you can afford post 2012 model. If you get one then check if the engine has been repaired by audi for the very common fault of oil burning. Pcv and engine mount failures are also fairly common. Cvt gearboxes however reliable are a bit annoying to drive and can be jerky. Try to get a 6 cylinder with quattro if one fits in your budget

What about the 2l diesels? Did the b8 suffer from the injector problems that the b7 did ?

No injector problems, but they do have the same oil pump / balance shaft design which is known for failing and leaving you with zero oil pressure. This was fixed around Feb 2010, so get a 60 plate or newer to be sure you have one of the newer designs which don't fail.

Oh, and S-Tronic boxes are known for temprempental Mechatronic units prior to 2012, as they are not well protected from the hot oil in the gear box.

I did quite a bit of research before buying mine.

I wanted a 2.0 petrol at first but the oil consumption problem pre 2012 put a stop to that.

In the end I went for a 60 plate 2.0 tdi 140 manual.

This seemed the most reliable out of the bunch, stay clear of the auto boxes there are loads of threads of dodgy boxes. Like the post above said 60 plate onwards had the oil pump problem fixed.

Then just look for the normal, good bodywork, full service, cambelt on the 2.0tdi needs doing at 70k about £500.

We do quite a lot of short journeys but we've had no dpf problems, we run the car on shell v power which I've been told by a vag specialist will help keep the emissions control devices clear, dpf, egr etc.

We get around 35mpg on average, but this is short journeys. We get about 50mpg on a run.

Seems like the B8 out of the game now.
petrol 2012> or diesel 2010> will probably be more than my budget of £6500 for a top spec one.

I think giving the mileage you're willing to accept (up to 130k), you might be surprised. it won't be top spec as in premium sound, leather and navigation, but you can find combinations with a good number of options on them. the 2.0 tdi engine is bullet proof and will run forever if you give it good oil and IGNORE the gear change indicator on the dashboard. don't go under 2000rpm unless you're cruising on the motorway at 1600-1800rpm...

What engine code was the 2010 2.0tdi and did they only come in 140bhp ?

CAGA is the engine code for my 2010, they come in an 180ish bhp as well. When I was looking the 180 ones seemed to be Quattro, didn't really want or need Quattro so I opted for the 140. Plenty enough grunt for everyday driving, about 38mpg round town and 50mpg plus on motorway.

Just done service myself as well, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter pollen filter. £40 all in, dead easy diy job.

I use shell v power diesel as well, a VAG specialist advised me it will help the dpf, egr keep clear as it mostly does short journeys.

I paid 10k from an Indi dealer for my 60 plate 2.0tdi about 9 months ago, s line, 2 year warranty, 70K miles, full service, 1 owner, like New condition.

It came with a few bits I wanted as well, 18 inch alloys I didn't want the bigger ones, cruise control, servotronic steering, LED rear lights

9K for mine about 5 months ago, 2.0 Tdi Quattro S Line Special edition 2 (what ever that means ) , Half leather, B&O HiFi, Cruise, Auto lights/Wipers, 19" alloys, partial history 90k miles and 6 months warranty... very happy with it , could just do with a little more low down grunt having come from a remapped B6 Tdi
