Hi folks,

So my new car - less than 600miles. Wipers are new and there was no judder at all before treatment. Products purchased from Slim's detailing.

I did the following.

1. With a very clean windscreen I polished the glass with G4 and new microfibre cloth and then removed the residue with G6
2. I then cleaned the rubber on the blades with G6
3. I then applied a final pass of G2 before going to the G1 sealant
4. With the now very well prepared glass I treated the windscreen with the GI - all as per the GTechniq instructions etc
5. A 2nd and 3rd coat of G1 was applied with a 5 minute waiting time in between.
6. I then let it settle for about 15 minutes before removing any residue with a new cloth and G2

I didn't use the car for 2 days after.

Now the beading action is excellent (fully satisifed) and it is possible to drive without using the wipers if the car is above 20mph or so. At night though or under street lights whilst raining and in certain conditions I still need to use the wipers - normal of course. The issue is the judder on the return sweep. It is absolutely a noisy nightmare.

I tried cleaning the blades again but the blades still judder. I have heard that the judder should go away but I can't put up with this noise until then.

Solutions/ideas please from those familiar with the Gtechniq products?

Thanks.

Sadly a common problem. I've personally not come across a fix.

No fix? Nightmare..... Contacted Gtechniq today for their advice

Although not the same, albeit a similar product. I used AngelWax H2GO on my windscreen.

Excellent water repellency but the wiper judder irritated the life out of my. After a bit of research, a couple of forums suggested putting the product on the wiper blades too.

I got new blades as mine needed replacing but before putting them on, I cleaned them and applied the AngelWax to the blades. I haven't had any judder since (touch wood).
I noticed you cleaned your blades but maybe try applying some product on them too (if you have any left)

Thanks for your input. GTechniq do suggest putting some of the product on the blades. I'm at a crossroad thinking if I add more of the same I might make things worse or the problem lasts longer. Of course I'm falling on the side of giving this a go. I still like the product and the result I just think that the manufacturers could be more pro-active with user guidance to help customers avoid this annoying problem. I'll have to wait a few days to get back home before I can get the product again. I think this time I'll remove the blades clean them like a madman (every time I clean the cloth goes black and I'm never sure they get really clean) then I'll treat the blades with the product.

If I get the secret recipe correct I'll publish my mini guide to help others.

Is Angelwax H2GO a nano technology product?

Well here it has been raining for days so the wipers need to get their act together....

I had the wiper judder after applying Gtechniq, I only put one coat of it on just to see how it works. The judder went away after a while as the Gtechniq wore away. I dont think i'll bother putting it on the windscreen again - still have to use the wipers a low speeds anyway, it works well on the side windows though and on the rear window on my A5 sportback

@france71 why not try it on the passenger side blade first and see if it helps before committing to both sides?

Just remove it and class this as a lesson learned.
I'm not sure how to remove it but will persist until the judder wears off- but agree with you that I won't be doing the windscreen again.

The side windows are of course fine and strangely the rear wiper free of problems.

This is a strange problem, and I will be eager to hear how you get on with doing the actual wipers. I have some Gtechniq that I was going to put on my windows, so I will wait to see how yours goes first before I try it! Good luck.

Well today it is sunny and 14 deg so the wipers will be having a day off.
When I get home on Thursday I have my plan.
Gtechniq advised me to clean the windscreen with IPA and then apply some more G1 to the blades.
Once dry I'll run a hose over the screen so I can test simulated rain types.
If that doesn't work I'll have to wait to the product settles in or wears off a bit.
Certainly I'm going to have an answer or say it can't be sorted out

I'd agree with cleaning it all off with IPA

Had the gtechniq applied by a professional detailer, juddered like crazy. He then applied it to the wiper blades - no difference. Then tried new wiper blades, Bosch aerotwin, slightly better but still unbearable longterm. In the end got the detailer to remove it with some machine thing. He now no longer applies the product to windscreens of these cars (and golfs), it’s all too common. So in short, nowt you can do I’m afraid :( he liasised with gtechniq directly as an accredited detailer a lot throughout the process, and just agreed there was nothing to be done. Shame cos it’s a good product

Damm. I just cleaned the screen again with G2 and then cleaned the blades before applying some G1 to the blades - all this as per Gtechniq advise when they were asked about wiper judder.

So I guess I will suffer it and not buy any more Gtechniq glass products.

I feel pretty let down by Gtechniq support service and of course the G1 product.

I'll report on things on the next rain fall.

I have a bottle of 100% IPA coming. Impossible to get hold of on the shops in France. I had to order from Amazon.

If my test fails then I'll do an IPA wipe off and see if that works.

Just tried again tonight after having applied G1 to the cleaned blades.

Result - the wiper judder is as bad as ever.

Summary - do not and I repeat do not use Gtechniq G1 glass treatment. It is a disaster for wipers. Gtechniq support is useless. I'm going to ask for a refund.

Hoping the 100% IPA will get some or all of this 'sh*t of my windscreen as I don't know how to machine polish it off?

I really hate to use my wipers anyways. I enjoy driving without having to use them during the rainy days. I have judder too but I don't really use them much so an occasional judder bothers me less than having the wipers activate every few seconds

I agree in that I wanted to have the beading effect that gets water blown off the screen.

In slow traffic or under street lights you still need to operate the wipers. Having this judder is an unwanted issue that would have have stopped me applying the product if I had known about it.

Some sort of solvent , turps , meths , white spirit ?
Hoping the isopropyl alcohol will do the necessary.

I've been told that it can be polished off. I don't have a professional polisher but I have a buffing rotary tool. I'll try some Autoglym glass cleaner- cream based in this and see if that does any good?

Anybody have an idea?

Just spent an hour with 90% denaturalised alcohol ( waiting on the 100% IPA to arrive) followed by hard rubbing using a waffle weave cloth and glass polish.

Final result- imperceptible difference as the wipers still judder like hell.

Cheers Gtechniq for the expensive product that causes these issues...

Sorry to hear about the issues but thanks for sharing your (painful) experience. Sometimes there is so much hype around a product or brand that anyone saying anything bad is shot down in flames so it's great to have your real world experience. I hope you get it sorted soon.

The Gtechniq paint treatment has provided excellent results - how long it will last is still to see. The alloy wheel treatment appears to be effective but is still too newly applied to say how effective it will be.

The G1 glass treatment on the other hand is really not fit for purpose. Whether glass treatments from other companies offer better results or similar problems I can't say.

I'm going to ask the retailer to reimburse me. Dealing with sorting the windscreen will remain my problem unfortunately.

Is the G1 a great product for the side windows only? Just don't use it on the front and rear if you have wind screen wipers?

Well it worked fine on the side windows and strangely the rear wiper didn't have any issues. ..... I don't think that I'll be buying any more G1 as the hassle it has made for me was not worth it.

I only ask as I have some G1 in the garage that I was going to use. Think I'll try it on the side and rear windows only.

Fine for

Fine for side glass that is for sure. Another option would be for a shower cabinet to stop limescale build up.

Hi folks, after buying good quality 100% Isopropyl alcohol from Germany (hard to get in France, why???) I set to work on the windscreen. After 3 very good wipes and rubbing I believe the problem is gone. Light drizzle this evening and had no wiper juddering.

I never heard back from Gtechniq customer service (or lack of in their case) and would have to say I can not recommend them as a company. Selling high price products like they do, they should be pro-active in dealing with problems. G1 is a flawed product that leads to juddering wiper blades. I would tell anybody to save their money and not buy it. I have only ever dealt with Autoglym and Getchniq and don't know the others. Worth looking at other makes though as Gtechniq offer little or no support.

Thanks for sharing this information. I feel that a lot of these so called "detailing products" are just an expensive waste of money

Glad you got it sorted. For what it's worth I had an issue with a CarPro product. My detailer liaised with CarPro direct to resolve things to my satisfaction and they gave me some free products by way of apology. That was good service. Just a shame Gtechniq didn't do the same for you. :(

The same thing happened when applied H2go to my wifes new A3, but actually found out the wiper arm was slightly twisted, so didn't allow the blade to flip over on the down sweep. Some manipulation sorted it and no more judder. Not an exact science, but may be worth seeing if it is sitting correctly on the screen?

Seeing this thread has me asking myself if there is any glass treatment out there that can be used on the windscreen effectively without inducing wiper judder? Surely @Bristle Hound can give us his vase knowledge gained from DW!

@SPIKE_S1 - Never had a problem with wiper judder using Angelwax H2Go on numerous different cars. Always used 2 coats on the windscreen / rear window & 1 coat on the sides
Gtechniq G1 was a real PITA to use. Mine ended up in the bin!

Knew I could count on you for some sound advise. Must check out this H2Go product. Cheers @Bristle Hound
