S3 Hatch Manufacturing Ends - Value?

(BTW There should be a law against owning a car if you don't even know how many doors it has!)

Meh.. I don't consider the boot a "door". If somebody was going to get in via the right door of a "3 door" and you told them to use the other door, you wouldn't expect them to use the boot!

While I agree the manual box in the S3 is not the best, it's better than what Audi manual used to be. The B5 S4 had such a long throw it was shocking. Yet the manual gearbox in the B7 RS4 was brilliant. The manual gearbox in that car help made it be such a good car. And yes I regularly drove one.

I can see why manufacturers of really really fast car don't offer a manual anymore, as cars are probably far too quick for a manual to be practical (for most), but Porsche is starting to go back to the manual with the GT3.

Personal opinion of course, but an auto in anything other than a supercar, is super boring. Yes it can get to 60 0.2 seconds faster than the manual car can, and yes it's great in towns and cities. And the Auto allows manufacturers to conjure up fake mpg figures that sell cars too.

Yet the Auto adds weight to the car, and makes driving, well, just boring. Don't get me wrong, in the right car (SUV or luxury barge) I think they suit the car better than a manual would. But for cars like the S3, RS3, the interaction a manual gives you makes driving rewarding. Better still when you get on the perfect twisty road with no traffic. You drive the car, rather than is half driving you. Yes flappy paddles are fun, some would say, but again, they're boring unless in a supercar. 90% of the people who buy a DSG car with paddles will probably never use them. Same as the manual mode on the gear selector. More so in a VW Group car, as the ******* thing is the wrong way round.

I honestly think it's because people don't really care about driving so much these days. They want to get from A to B with as least effort as possible. Changing gear yourself? Can't be bothered !!

The only thing I wish was auto on cars was the indicators on round-a-bouts, as very few ******* use them either !!!!

Given the choice on any car between auto and manual, I'll always chose manual. Just a shame more cars are coming even without that choice. Like Vegans, their choice is being pushed onto others.

Sadly, my S3 will probably be the last Audi I own. I'm pretty sure the next S3 will be DSG only.

To add. Just look what happened to Renault when the made the Clio RS auto only. Sales fell dramatically, as people wanting a hot hatch, what to change gear for themselves.
Some good points but i prefer autos and have done for the past 14 years. I disagree that an auto makes a car boring, the car would be equally boring with a manual IMO. Each to their own.

This old chestnut . With the demise of the 3 door, l think the actual styling is one of the reasons why it ddidn' sell besides the ones posted above, the Sportback is better looking the 3 door ain't very well proportioned just my opinion of course, Audi messed up Simples

I would agree with that now. The current Gen A3/S3 Sportback looks better than previous generations on A3 Sportbacks. I absolutely hated the last gen A3 Sportback.

Think if you're single, or have no kids then the 3 door still makes sense, and is still a good looking car. I nearly ordered a 3 door, just before the Saloon was announced.

The reason I like the S3 (in terms of styling at least) is because it looks classy in comparison to it's competitors. If you take an A45 AMG for example, I think it looks a bit overdone, and a bit boy racery, inside and out. The new Honda Civic Type-R, oh dear what a calamity, the spoiler insanely huge and length to match a bus. Focus ST/RS? Looks bland and boring. As soon as roof rails are added to the S3, I think it turns the car into a dreary old mans estate, and just detracts the suave element and attraction of the car.

Read and weep roof rail fans.

Agree re Honda and couldnt have a ST or STI sounds like a disease, AMG A45 without spoiler not too bad but yes a bit blingy.

S3’s aren’t exactly a drivers car, so getting one in a manual doesn’t make it any more fun than an s tronic. S Tronic is perfect for the S3 I find, as it is a car people want to drive daily with good all round performance, comfort and practicality. It is the ultimate daily car for most I would think.

Its a good all rounder and if you like manual gearboxes the S3 8V PFL that I had was quite entertaining but ulimately uncomfortable to drive in my case hence I switched over to the Auto...I kept it longer than anything else Ive had....I actually agree with Chris Harris review, he thought it was a very good car in the manual.

I have always preferred S3's in a 3 door until the latest version which I prefer in a 5. The only thing with the 5 door is that it almost looks like an estate from some angles, even more so with the roof rails. It's hardly even a hatchback at the length of the 5 door. If you have the sunroof it does make it look more sporty though.
