Been looking at purchasing a b8 recently. Found a nice decent looking car with 99k on it. Part history, milage check report. Belts done, fully serviced and full years mot. Guy said only thing thats wrong is clicking noise from heater. But he said hes going to sort it before letting me take it home.

Should I be worried and what else should I look for?

Thanks

If it an 11 plate or older check for oil consumption problem. Think it was fixed after 11 plates, check on here there’s a whole topic about it.

If it’s affected with the oil consumption issue and only has part history I’d walk away as Audi UK require full service history and/or proof of oil changes. With full history it will be very expensive fix (my 10 plate B8 was affected but luckily had full history and Audi covered the full cost, approx 6k if I remember rightly)

I’m not 100% sure but think the oil consumption issue didn’t effect diesels, I’m sure someone on here will confirm though

Oil consumption did not affect the 2.0TDI, but oil pump failure did, right up until engines manufactured to Feb 2010.

Ok il be sure to ask about this then. Don't want any hassle off the bat.

Ask who and what?? All 2.0TDI engines up to Feb 2010 are affected by this fault, unless there are receipts for a modified balance shaft or a new (post-Feb 2010) balance shaft module from Audi then it WILL have this issue.

When these fail the oil pump stops and you can kiss goodbye to your turbo and possibly even your entire engine if you don't turn it off immediately. Best option is either get one with receipts to prove the modification has been done, or get a late 2010 or newer car.

Only engines manufactured after Feb 2010 were good out of the factory, so that means that even a July 2010 car could have a Jan 2010 engine fitted to it. There is no way to know 100% for sure. So the newer the car the better, just to be safe.

Someones going to get a well looked after car, I've seen this car in person, and IMO, not many in as great a condition as Mac's A4.
