2018 RS3 Exhaust Delete Plugs + Loop

Got some odd email today but didn’t really give me an update....just said

“Hi there. Your recent order on VW Parts International has been completed. Your order details are shown below for your reference:”

Hope it’s a legit site

I got the same email mate - still says "back ordered" though.

I got the same email today... if I remember rightly from when I bought my RS ones off them, we should get another email to say they have been dispatched

Thinking they have been a little slow with it being a weekend as also with is being a brand new item?!

I still don't get this as right pipe is closed at idle, both open about 4k. If you do this at idle then just left side always open with right shut until 4k?

TX.

Thats certainly what it seemed like when I did this mod myself, I made sure to unplug while in dynamic, car felt slower, and could swear there was more noise from the left than normal.

I guess only real way to do it would be start the car and rev to 4k and unplug them quickly.

Car felt slower?! How would that be, it’s just an exhaust flap to muffle the sound

If one valve is still closed it blocks optimal back pressure forming in the exhaust.

I was sure one valve was still closed. And the comment I replied above to also seemed to indicate that would have been the case.

The valves even in comfort mode will open fully over 4000rpm for a reason.

Hmmmmmm....think that’s getting returned then lol

Oh I doubt this product is detrimental to wide open throttle.

I am referring to the fact that at least in my case I don't think both valves were open 2hen I unplugged them. Which would have affected the top end for me.

Conversely if both valves are pinned open, it's also possible the very low end pick up may be slower because of such unrestricted air flow right from the beginning.

Chances of you noticing any difference with ‘lack of’ backpressure is next to none, it’s always been a rumour and always discarded. I will attach a video I came across but have yet to watch, the title interested me...

Thats a good video, I think that does illustrate why though changing the valve operations can have an effect on the power delivery. Clearly back pressure was a poor choice of word.

The car was designed to use its valves not just for noise as far as I understand, there is a reason they fully open at 4000rpm and not at take off.

I disconnected my valves and my car did not launch as hard at all. So, either the valves truly were stuck open, and this messed up the flow in the exhaust at low RPM (which almost acts like a choke), scavenging as the guy in the video called it. Opening the valves at a higher RPM most likely optimises that further.

I need to take some time to watch it tonight.

My valves have been open from day 1, the same in my S3 so I don’t know any better. I think I’d be too underwhelmed by the noise if I put it back now :(

There's a reason why Audi spend fortunes on development to perfect the 5banger and it's now got 400ps !!

These two bob exhaust thingys to get a bit more noise are obviously going to have a detrimental effect of some kind, and potentially do some damage.

If you want more noise do it properly and get a decent aftermarket exhaust.

Many aftermarket exhausts (for other marques that also use valves as standard, think the FL RS3 is still too new all options to be out there already) do not use valves... and these comes from some of the top exhaust manufactures too

What was your sequence to unplug the valves in the open position? ta

Start the engine, switch between comfort and dynamic until you’re confident both sides have switched into the open position that you can hear... then unplug.

But, have a good rummage around first to get a feel of how they come out so the exhaust is still cold when you finally do

Your statement is just wrong .
There’s more chance of you messing that car up fitting an aftermarket system and every chance it wouldn’t even have valves.

The reason Audi fitted then is for volume control period. Back pressure on start up may be effected but won’t be detrimental.

Have they got the opposite system?

My car is really loud and what I would like to do is make it quieter so people think I have a FL....

Can’t you just disable the valves in VCDS like you can the s3?

Just got this MTM valve controller installed and must admit I’m happy I didn’t just unplug the valves without having the option to close them. With the valve fully open it adds this bass tone to it which turns a lot of heads, really everyone basically. Thought it adds some drone noise which isn’t for everyone.

Is this is a permanent open and close off of a remote?

Looking at fitting my plugs tomorrow, would you guys say there's much difference in volume compared to stock?

Yeah, the difference between closed valves and open valves is dramatic. However, obviously there will be no difference when hooning as the valves would be open anyway if plugged in. It opens up the sound when just driving around normally, sounds awesome.

Turn the car on from a cold start... knock it into “s” then unplug and fit the deletes

Is that the right way to do it?

Just start up leave it in park and cycle through to Dynamic mode, you will hear the valves open, then just unplug.

This is what mine sounds like now with valves unplugged.

Yes, you will also notice more people turn their heads, even if you drive slow the noise is always there. TIP: On cold start go to the back of the car, thank me later..

I have the rattling exhaust, so I'm wondering if it's worth me keeping them plugged in for now until I get that sorted. Does anyone know if any error codes can be thrown up by using these plugs? If not, then I'll just unplug and plug them back in when I take it in.

Even better, cold start in a multi storey carpark, sounds absolutely insane my PFL with unplugged valves secondary decats

Leave them plugged in to be safe.
Mine is being replaced at Cardiff on Monday.

I'm leaving mine plugged in until Audi resolve this issue, Although I'm waiting for confirmation it is actually a new part as some have had it replaced and still had the issue.

Saying that, I am getting paint flake off the exhaust now so i'm very pi**ed off as it is!
