Any advice please .. i been looking to upgrade air intake .. is it worth it? . I been looking at injen/ram /IE /carbonio. Or just replacing the filter itself .. any advice i dont really want the minimal xtra power just to know it getting slighter better air flow ..and if i can get to hear the supercharger more that would be great.. could the stock air box lid be removed and left off with a new revo air filter for example?

Intakes for the s4 are ridiculous money. If you don't plan to tune then drill the bottom of your air box to get some sound out. The standard audi filter is a cone anyway.

If you want upgraded for sensible money then look for something that fits inside your air box as anything that ditches the air box is mega bucks as you pay for stuff that isn't really needed.

My filter was bought second hand off ebay and sits inside the air box that I drilled the bottom of. Sounds great and made over 480bhp on a stage 2 tune.

Car at 400bhp stage1 with dsg map ..got bcs powervalve exhaust back boxes ordered so that should sweeten things up. So was looking for little mod with the air flow.. so not worth buying revo/k&n filter ?.. just drill holes bottom of air box .. how many approx and what size bud

Open up your airbox and you'll see a convenient circle shape in the box moulding. I drilled that out (same as mrc do) and that did the trick.

I'm suprised that you got a stage 1 tune without a new air filter as most tuners list it as a required hardware upgrade so I'd imagine that it makes a difference.

Do you want to release the supercharger noise too ?

Yes supercharger whine be added bonus certainly. Ill take a look later and get a filter ordered

As mentioned the standard filter is a cone filter so this can be swapped for the likes of a K&N if desired. The standard air box doesn’t appear to be a restriction hence why many keep it in place. The restriction lies in the standard intake pipe and resonator and most people change this for a hard pipe or increased bore silicone pipe.
Open induction kits are usually favoured by those wanting to hear more of the supercharger whine but are more prone to heat soak and get dirty quickly from dirt coming through the pourous inner wheel arch material.

You can get hold of silicone intake pipes now which are considerably cheaper than the older options (aluminium or carbon fibre), and they do away with the baffle on the standard pipe so you get to hear the whine

OE air intake is at its limit for stage 1 and becomes restrictive for stage 2.
MRC provide 034 airpipe and high flow filter (not sure whose) and unblank the secondary air hole in the box. Any mods further than that will be for aesthetics and noise.

This is what my nearest awesome gti trying to sell for around 700 dollar equivalent .. so its like say 600 dollar for an air filter to attach to silicone hose?

It looks that way... lol .. i know awe a respected make but that price is ridiculous for a silicone pipe and a filter...

I see a lot fitting the smaller filter (not sure what its called. What does this connect to . Is it to do with supercharger noise? Is it needed? Is the pipe connected to this connected to air box? Any help on this appreciated .. seems to be more amercan thing i guess as not illustrated on many English high flow induction kit..

It’s for the secondary air pump it’s nothing to do with intake noise. It is only required if you are removing the lower part of the standard air box that it normally connects to.

Thanks kenny.. so if you get an induction kit that has no need for stock airbox i take it this part comes with the order.. only a lot of company listing intake upgrade dont show this in picture/illustration

Yes any that remove the lower portion of the air box will have this. For example APR and Injen retain the bottom of the stock box so don’t have this.

Appreciate you clearing that up for me thanks kenny

Looking to add improved induction myself in next week or so on the S5 with a view to going revo stage 1+shortly - will the following do the trick?

https://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/Audi_S5_Intake_Hose--product--1324.html

And this filter https://www.knfilters.co.uk/mobile/mProduct.aspx?prod=E-1987

Is that all that's needed in terms of parts? looks pretty straight forward from some YouTube how to's albeit I've never seen anything on drilling the airbox - any chance of a picture/example of where it should be drilled?

Really helpful thread - I was also a little unsure of the need for the smaller filter so thanks!

Thinking of going for one of these ... price a bit high but uk supplied

Yes Hellz those are the parts I’ve fitted to my S4, they are essentially the same as MRC fit when doing a stage 2 car although they use a different brand of silicone hose.

Once you remove the lower part of the you’ll see a circular part that is blanked off, open this up with a drill or dremel. You can do more holes in the side away from the engine but removing the cast in blank is a neat solution. I believe this is similar again to MRC’s mod.

Also in the upper part of the box there is a diverter where the air from the front enters the box. You can unclip this part of the box, cut away the diverter then connect back in the clippy bit, this will make sense when you see it.

Just realised the injen air intake stated only for 2009 to 2012

I'm fairly sure that they do one for the newer engine as well as when I bought mine I had to tell the retailer ( cant remember who they were but think they were around stockport area) what year my car was so they sent the right one out...

.. does the airbox come apart to leave the bottom which is retained? Or does airbox get removed and the bottom cut off it? .. any help appreciated . I just want to be certain what work involved b4 i purchase and to know that everything quite straightforward if i fit myself .. thanks guys

With the injen you remove the top half of the airbox and replace the filter and pipework etc and then fit there own lid to the standard airbox, all the work is easy and no difficult bits at all.

Struggling to find a uk supplier of air intake .. the injen sp3079 is only up 2012 .. i need the sp3080 according to VIP . They very helpful but will only get item delivered in 2 weeks then post on to me...

Waiting on a few revo dealers get back to me always got to leave a quote request with email. .. wish i lived in America at times like this lol

Managed to get this ordered from V hub on ebay .. used the offer button to get it down from 499 to 445. And click n collect at Argos so dont miss delivery:)

Ask the seller if it comes with the fuel line relocation kit.
I was sent one at the end of last year free of charge as the kits wear the fuel line.
