Hi All,

Apologies if this is done already.

Just wanted to see anyone used the sound deadening sheets on their s4 with the awe track cat back set up to counter the common drone and what is their feedback.

Many thanks,
Ed

@Meemo - apologies for "steeling" info from your thread :)

@I oOEddOo I - you should be able to find the information in the below thread

added some sound deadening pads to absorb the panel resinance, just tapped around the panels to find the offending sections, padded, re knocked untill everything sounded solid, didnt actually need much of the metal pads to achieve this which is a relief as they are heavy, I have a layer of decouple Mass loaded vinyl under the carpet above whats shown in the pictures, but i need to fabric glue this to the underside of the carpet to give it a professional finish, currently it is just cut to size and places but functional! pictures when it looks legit :)

and the result for the drone? 80% improvement! omg my blessed ears are very happy, i hear the nice burble and no loud cabin filling boom, I can sit at 40 now and hear no drone, which is a relief as since i had the exhaust done i have had to drop gears when ever the drone kicks in.

for reference

I have seen this thread and just want to see anyone done this specifically on a awe track setup.

my custom set up would be a hell of a lot more droney than awe which is highly developed and tested with great feedback, so if it helped mine that much you know its good for the rest.
The feedback on awe is they are the best for minimal drone on the v6s, but the miltecs on ours are awful and simply a centre silencer delete, you get what you pay for and was happy to go custom to save money on the awe :) i really rate the combo of pads and mlv matt, it was driving me crazy before

I am torn between awe track and custom.... I am not sure if they can get near to what I am after even I show them the videos and photos on the other hand awe track catback is droney and by what you said above it gives me slight confidence in following your method to counter the drone slightly and this will save few quids rather spending on the touring hope this make sense

Why not go Scorpion full cat back. People who have it are really happy and say it has zero-drone ... And it sounds too

I have listened to the sound but not sure if is what i want thanks for your suggestion anyway.

I have fully resonated AWE touring. I think the "drone" is just the louder exhaust making the boot panels resonate and standing waves to be setup in there. It is only noisy under certain conditions (typically uphill at 70ish and about 1800rpm). I think there are two issues here - boot shape (I think each style of car will behave differently) and what people consider as bad drone.

I can say that I can't imagine driving my car with a non-resonated track AWE... That's as close to straight pipes as you can get in a non-custom setup!

I'm with @arad85, don't get any drone, it's just the sound of the exhaust.

Totally different from Milltek etc. and well worth the extra £'s IMO.

Although, I suppose it's down to everyone's definition of drone though, in Sport mode it's more of a roar. :scared2:

awe track catback plus meemo's drone reduction method is what I am thinking at the moment but @JG51 AUD and @arad85 you guys are running touring and res downpipe is much more bearable or not much drone.

arrrgggghhh decisionssssssss

Drone, like mentioned in the thread is subjective. For example Meemo mentioned Milltek has drone, my view on it is completely different. For me, there is no drone. One thing that pretty much everyone agrees upon or shall we say most of us do is that AWE Track has way more loud and has more drone than the Touring. When I opted for Milltek @arad85 was kind enough to offer support and share his experiences and instrumental in helping me make the decision. One of the reasons for going Milltek route was that my plan was that I'll change it if I didn't like it or if the drone is unbearable. I have driven nearly 6k miles since putting it on and I love it every time I drive the car. If I ever get bored my next setup would be AWE Touring.

I think both the AWE set up's will have minimum drone, the track is far louder than the touring, obviously. It'll be the sound of the track you'll be trying to deaden, which without back boxes, like touring, will be near impossible IMO.
Although you may like your car very loud, in that case it's the track for you.

I have 0 drone on my milltek non res kit. Guess the body shape can probably have a effect on it

Cheers for your opinions guys ! I will speak to the custom and see what they say first before deciding.

yep without downpipe, steep still in terms of price or worth thinking........

Milltek non-res is still slightly cheaper than AWE without downpipes. Sound is where it becomes slightly subjective. Which one sounds better ... Well, those will Milltek say it's theirs and ones with AWE like theirs. Their are a few YT comparison videos but imo they don't do justice with either of the setups.

Have you considered Milltek ValveSonic as well - pretty much same price.

I have tried to convince myself to it but it just don't grow on me, the alternatives are Borla but the price is near as much as Awe touring / APR exhaust and they don't make them no more.

Agreed. An exhaust is a personal thing. This is the first after market I've had, so didn't know what to expect however, I am very happy with the choice I made.

Personally, I'd delay. It is difficult and involves a lot of money without having any real performance gains. So, you are doing the right thing by asking around however, I wouldn't only stick to AWE - no biases here, it is just that it widens the choices one has. Try and get in people's cars if you can and do the sort of driving you do. YouTube will never be able tell you the real difference.

I agree with what you say, the choices are there it just seeking as much feedbacks as possible then decide. I also picked up from US forum people running awe track added resonators to tone down the actual exhaust noise which is something worth looking at and maybe it is cheaper options rather than going all out and spending on the touring but negative side is will custom exhaust company can do this properly.

I personally can't imagine the noise is that much different with AWE track and standard downpipes and Milltek non-resonated, I have had resonated and non resonated on my milltek and don't find the drone bad at all on the non-resonated and it sounds absolutely epic when you give it some, I think the AWE touring to the milltek rersonated is where there would be a big difference.. If money wasn't an object I think I would probably get an AWE touring for what seems the best compromise.

The YouTube videos doesn't do any exhaust justice but I always had the Awe on top of the list it's the sound it create is something unique.

@I oOEddOo I - you should be able to find the information in the below thread

Legend Just the thread I'm after. I've ordered some Noico deadening sheets and closed cell foam. I've put a thread up with reference to the B&O control unit that sits beside the Battery housing in wheel well. As it seems a ****** to get out so I can remove the trim. To get access to the metal itself.

From the pics you guys have provided and just using a little bit (far less than I thought would be needed) the results seem favourable. I agree that drone is just resonance in the boot metals. The wheel well is a giant basin for that sound to be trapped. Of course, you could get a resonator fitted but it's the sound I love of the Non Res. Volume is good too. Valves open is savage and I'm only using it when I go for a proper blast. But the cabin is just a bit boomy for my liking.

Milltek Non Res btw. Different with mine being RS4 but the panels that are vibrating will be the same for sure. Looking forward to getting stuck into this next week.
