Facelift Exhaust Mods?

Sorry TX but I think some people are taking me out of context here. I have not suggested he's a bodger in anyway, in fact I actually said he should charge more because it looks as if he works damn hard to get you the result and it would still be good value! However, as mentioned above, it would not be my personal choice of modifying my exhaust for reasons explained in my previous post.........but that's just me.

Penetrator; not sure what you are disagreeing with exactly...there is no denying that PCW is a very cost effective solution.....and I have not presented any argument or opinion to the contrary concerning the cost of the modification. My only concern was that it's a permanent mod and cannot easily be put back to stock if you dont like it (or the missus says it's too loud :sm4:) or selling it back into a dealer network.

As you say, its good that you have shown that there are alternatives to just bolting on expensive aftermarket hardware, and there's no guarantee that you will like them either. lol.

Work is reversible, just put in what you take out. Speak to him.

Well I’m commenting on personal experience of letting him go to town on very expensive cars and for a start point before shelling out ££££ it’s a no brainer, if you sell the car yes you can pay to get it put back to as normal as possible but it’s not worth it and the new owner will be very pleased, not like the hassle of trying to sell an expensive exhaust for peanuts, arrange getting the OEM exhaust swapped out, arranging collection/delivery etc etc etc.

To people who are considering it I think it’s very clear from me that I’m a huge fan of his work and trust me when I say you won’t be disappointed at all.
Sometimes you have to roll the dice and take a chance or you just carry on being a sheep baaaaahh lol

It's good that people are passionate about stuff they have done to their cars, it's why we share stuff and our experiences on this forum! Baaaaaaah!!Lol

Well I’ve got the exhaust in the back of the van, damn van has died though.

135 miles away from home, I had a severely violent steering shudder take over when I got to Swindon. I’ve struggled the last 60 miles to Farnham so at least when I’m recovered, I’ve gained an exhaust.

Found that a wheel stud has sheared but a long time ago looking at it, seems as though the CV joint has packed in... knocking and banging something silly.

Damn long night ahead

It’ll be worth it when you eventually get your exhaust home and fitted mate.
Good luck

Fingers crossed. At 22:00 we got notification we would have transport at 4:40am!! Quick to complain, they got somebody there by 22:20.

On leg 1 of our journey now, headed to Leigh Delamere services on the M4 then offload and wait for another recovery to take us back to Wales, oh dear :(

Good job I did a job and a half of tying down the exhaust, pretty sure this Renault didn’t have Mag Ride specced.

Just sat here laughing with the Mrs’ how did we even end up here.. all for an exhaust, only the most unlikely situations happen to me haha.

Anyone got photos of what the piping looks like when the exhaust is opened up?
They generally are a complex arrangement.

There’s some info in the SSP on the new engine I posted in another thread.
Relates to the TTRS but none the less gotta be similar.

Thank you very much T-800.
Looks like the LHS is a straight pass through. Very interesting.

If you look closely it would seem there’s a straight thru left hand pipe controlled be the flap

The right hand pipe looks like it feeds an ‘open’ partition section that feeds the Right pipes and the other left pipe.

What’s your opinion on the small crossover pipe that the PFL has? Wondering if I have that retrofitted to my ‘modified’ backbox whether it will make any difference, haha. I don’t see how it could? Aoon was convinced that was the only change on the exhaust.

Very good to see a diagram of what’s going on inside.

@T-800 I think I asked a pretty viable question, just used Aoon’s thoughts to back up my query. You seem to display a cast knowledge of the car so I hoped you could shed some light, but I was wrong....

I’m not saying you didn’t ask a viable question though am I ?

But you have to ask yourself is a little bridging pipe on the left hand side the difference between what you have now and the PFL CZBG engined car ?

Are there differences ‘inside’ both sports exhausts....without seeing both cut open side by side we’ll never really know as Exhaust design/flow must be a complex business that Audi spend millions on.......yet (I’m not slagging the PCW Guy off either) people want to cut open the back box and remove random bits to make it louder....

How do you know it’s not detrimental to a standard car ? Has it been extensively tested by a reputable company with facts and figures to back it up ?

In your case you’ve played it safe in the fact you can put your original one back on should you not like it.

A couple of owners I know both have had MRC remaps recently and report a better sounding car as a bonus to the remap, one even has added pops/ bangs at certain points in the Rev range.

You constantly refer to the PFL cars noise , pops , bangs etc but it’s a different engine to the DAZA EA855 you have, different materials used in its construction, bigger better turbo, double the amount of injectors(5 Mpi as well as 5 direct) it’s an engine with built in head room for much bigger scope........

If you are only judging the FL car against the difference of the PFL noise then I’m afraid you are missing the bigger picture with what you now own......

No but the reply want very pleasant.

I was asking a question to a professional for your opinion because obviously I seem to value it, but I got it.. you couldn’t give a toss about another’s haha.

Being detrimental, it was my guess that removing any sound deadening in the exhaust would do just that and have no other unwanted effects, could be wrong though. Yes I’ve bought a separate system because I wasn’t happy seeing somebody hack into my stock exhaust, it’s knocking on for £1400 to replace if I don’t like it but how I have a spare Factory Sports Exhaust (albeit modified) that I could sell if I go off it, which we all know are like rocking horse excrement :)

Yes I get your point on me comparing to the PFL, I have spent quite a bit of time doing that but of late it’s been a lot less and I’ve never regretted going for the FL. I need to read the document you posted the other day, maybe I can gain some more appreciation for the new DAZA engine :)

The “I couldn’t give a Rats....” reply was nothing to do with you @AudiNutta ....

It’s my Responce after reading what you referenced in that post...

If I were you yes AN go read that SSP document, I guarantee by the end of it you’ll be even more excited by what you currently own.

Well I am totally lost for words, the car is on another planet now.

The pops and bangs are as loud as a PFL when blipping at idle, too loud to abuse it outside the house.
You can hear the exhaust note with minimal throttle input, whereas before you needed to have a heavy foot.
It consumes the environment it is in, no need for walls in close proximity to you to get the full experience.
I find a lot more people are turning to look, even before the car is in sight.
So much deeper, the engine note has changed throughout and it sings at high revs a lot more than it did before.

Drone; yes there is drone. My valves are unplugged and that's the only way I've driven it, under heavy load the drone is the same as the S3 with a res delete, loud but perfectly liveable. Motorway at 60 it is silent, at 70 on flat ground it is quiet.. come to a steep incline and you can hear the engine note but it isn't ridiculous.

Absolutely no regrets, fallen in love with the car quite a bit more after hearing it today. Total different animal. You get little pops on downshifts too.

Happy happy AudiNutta!

Thank god for that. Now Matt you need to get yourself down the shell garage fill up and you and the missus go out and start to enjoy this great car we are proud owners of mate:thumbs up::friends:

Got 3/4 of a tank and no idea where to go when I take her out tonight? Hm!

I am very happy with it.

So it’s sounds like I must get this booked in

It’s an unbelievable transformation, it’s how the car should have left the factory! While it’s in individual / dynamic you will inevitably have an element of drone, the exhaust has been gutted but if you put it in comfort on a cruise, it will be near as damn it gone.

Basically the exhaust has two paths obviously, a valves closed and open path. The valves closed (comfort) path has been left as it was, the open path has been rerouted. I spoke to the guy doing it, the sound deadening stays in the backbox but basically the valve open path is now straight through.

It will sound better than any Milltek etc, the Armytrix Exhaust on the Orange Saloon on You Tube sounds awful.

With this you retain the quality of the genuine sports exhaust which tuners say can’t be beaten, but gain depth and volume. It’s a more ‘complete’ exhaust note, can hear it all through the range.

I will be at AITP for anybody who wants a listen when I arrive, won’t be starting up / revving after that with a cold engine.

Have you unplugged the valves on this new exhaust?

Have you unplugged the valves on this new exhaust?

I have indeed, before I left with it haha!

No interest in exhaust valves. Sound like absolute rubbish in reverse, open, close, open, close. I don’t like that when in dynamic the noise is muted somewhat, when in loud mode I want it to be loud 100% of the time regardless of Rev range.

yep... I have no left my Active Valve Controller off the car, no longer need it as the map has added some extra noise.
I think Brian can concur, the cars sound incredible from behind (to the carrera 4S's disappointment last week :tearsofjoy:) (we were only plodding along, honest :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:)

As good as the AVC is at switching valves open and closed on a whim with the ESP button or via ADS modes, when open, the deeper bass note of the FL exhaust gives drone that feels like it can bursts the ear drum (not volume but deep bass that is actually uncomfortable), so I got bored switching modes or the valves to avoid that drone and just leave them as stock now, more than happy. I'll put the AVC back up for sale at some point.
