My A5 Small improvements

When I had the door cards off I noticed that memory switch trim had two optical light tubes, one red for side assist the other unused as I don’t have extended light option, so as I had some spare light modules I thought I’d light them up.

Looks great where did you get the light modules from?

I got the switch, connector and replacement trim through Audi, adding it this weekend.

It was £196 including postage but that included some repair wires and some LED modules I needed so should be cheaper

Cheers, Andy

The factory trim has a tiny light tube that’s flush fitting, the LED module fits on this behind the panel.

Ah ok so proper OE. Like that £12 odd each
Just plug and play?

Each white ambient light is the same plugged onto light tube behind the door card.
If you look at the pic you can see each light tube, one is red for side assist warning, one is white for ambient light.

Thanks for the picture I take it these can be dimmed? as the light in the handle can be dimmed

The lane assist Stalks are around £250 from Audi, fitting is not that hard but you need someone with VCDS to set the steering angle sensor as it can`t be done with OBDeleven but you can then use OBD to code in lane assist.

I used https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ to get the camera data base then use this app to load them onto https://github.com/mcaddy/audipoi/blob/master/Releases/SpeedCameraToPoi/v0.9.1.zip?raw=true then copy to SD card then load them into MMI

I wasn't a fan until i fitted the stalks with on/off button as i found it annoying on twisty country roads, now i have it set to high on every setting and its very good especially on motorway driving.

Dave, how do you remove the steering wheel to remove the stalks? :)

Dave, how do you remove the steering wheel to remove the stalks? :)

First you need to remove air bag, that gives you access to the 2 wiring connectors, before you touch these disconnect battery first and give it 15 mins.
Steering wheel is held on with 1 x torx nut, then 2 x torx facing you and one under the cowle.
Cowle top and bottom can then be removed to get at steering wheel stalks, it has 1 x connector and jubilee type ring around steering column shaft 1 x Allen key holding it in place.
Then it should slide off towards you.
Hope this helps.

Not a caravan???

When I do tow it’s a pleasure & pain experience, pleasure when I tow my eldest son’s 1956 VW Beatle to shows and PAIN!!! when mrs Audidave wants me to hook up the tin tent and go sit in the middle of a field for the weekend :)

What does the a5 tow like Dave? What caravan you towing? I currently use my a6 3.0 c7 which tows a treat but was contemplating putting a tow bar on the s5.

I had a 2.2 kx4 sorento before so was a bit sceptical at how it would tow but I was pleasantly surprised it tows perfectly, to be honest It tows better than the sorento.
The caravan is bailey Pegasus Verona GT65
I don’t tow caravan very often only around three times a year but I regularly tow a car trailer.

Would you mind sharing? I would love this on my s5. Do you have the wiring information too?

Hi Rizo,

Is yours a sportback? We found that mine doesn't have the memory seat control modules in :(

Luckily mine in the coupe. I was thinking this as we the botton to aid entering the back seat. This allows it to return to the same position after.

It’s a shame the sport back doesn’t have this module.

Yeah, i'm just looking with Andy at whats involved in adding it since we have already added the switch and trim but it has nothing to talk to :whistle2:

I’ll try get a picture of my seat controle unit tonight.

Thanks Dave, Looking at ETKA its pretty clear that the Coupe gets them but the Sportback doesn't. Struggling to see what the wiring differences are therefore going to be.

Ok not the best of pic’s
This is the seat control unit under drivers seat, hard to see the connection as it’s at the rear.

As we all thought it looks like only the coupe gets the control unit to make easy entry and memory seats work.
Also the switch I got from aliexpress is not for the A4/A5 B9 I think it maybe for Audi Q7.
So I decided to cut it into my original door trim, as you can see it’s not the correct shape but it will do for now until I can get hold of the correct switch.

I can send you a picture of mine installed if you like Dave? Mine in but does nothing since the Sportback doesn't have the controller!

Yes disappointing but it’s my fault for trying to cut corners should have just ordered from Audi.

Thanks Dave, Is it installed in the base of the seat? Do the connections go from it to the floor and the seat?

It will do for now :)
Thanks for pic, but yours looks factory and switch is in line.
It’s hard to see the wires, going to remove it at the weekend and see if I can see where the wiring goes

Thanks Dave,

You already have all the part numbers for the trim and switch don't you? If I can help anymore let me know.

Yes thanks for all your help with the part numbers, that’s half the battle ;)

how did the switch mount to the door card

The lock button mounts into the trim and the memory button slots into the door card itself then trim clips around it.

@RaZ A4 Do you have sportback or Coupe as the trim is different? Do you have extended lighting or exit warning too for the light fibres?

You have to be careful treading the fibres in to the door card too, I have to replace the one on my rear door as they broke the exit warning fibre off in the factory and left it as it wasn't a factory option but I have now added it.

Cheers, Andy
