Just thought I’d share this as I know quite a few people now have the Xtrons stereo units.

On the XDA Developers forum someone has released a free update that dramatically improves the sound output from these headunits as some people don’t think the sound quality from these units is very good especially with Audis with Bose.
I and another member on here have both got Bose and have both done this update and agree that it’s definately an improvement over how it comes out of the box.

To do this update go on the android auto section of the XDA Developers website and look for a thread titled (mod)(mcu)BD375xx sound processor.
It involves no hardware modifications, it is simply an MCU update and installing a new amplifier app.
The instructions are on the thread but you basically unzip the files on a computer/laptop and put the mcu update and new amplifier app onto an sd card and then place into the gps/map slot on the unit and install the update and app and that is it.

If you have a unit bought from Xtrons then you would do the GS mcu update, if you have a unit from someone else like erisin or whatever then it’s upto you to find out which mcu update you need to do.

The update is for android 6 and android 8 devices but if you have a different android version I’m sure there is a similar thread about the update for those devices.

After doing this update your sound quality and especially the bass will definitely be improved and if you use the new amplifier app you will have more control over the sound settings.

I can deffo vouch for this. While I had no real issues with my xtrons and was satisfied with the sound quality out of the box, this update has taken it to a whole different level. The bass is amazing with the bose sub and everything is just so much more crisp. Takes a minute to do the update and but the impovement is crazy

Nice! It's too late for me, but glad someone finally sorted this out.

Are you guys running custom firmware or is this applied over the stock android version?

Mines still Xtrons stock android 7 but been toying with the idea of flashing a custom rom

Didn't think there was much appetite round here for setting up/fettling with the android units. Hope I'm not hijacking but to add to the original post

This is for stock android on the Xtrons units although thread info suggest it may work with a few others. The MOD App saves you messing about with root if you're unsure too which is nice for the non-techys.

Download unzip and copy the correct file onto SD Card (GS version if you're Xtrons stock) - Then do an MCU Update on the headunit and choose the file. (It should auto find it)

Settings > System > MCUUpdates it should find the file on the SD Card

Your system will reboot and start flashing the MCU it should look like this:

Mcu

It will then reboot again. Don't mess with your ignition or remove the power while this is happening.

Next browse to your SD Card using the File Browser, Choose "GPS" on the left (GPS is what the memory card gets marked as on Xtrons) find your MODAmplifier apk file and double tap to install. Let it finish and you'll get a new a "Amplifier" app.

There are root options but I assume if you're into root you'll not need a quick guide like above.

The improvement is superb.

As with all open source software caveat being there's no guarantees of quality or safety (although if you're rolling Chinese un-certified android I assume you're not that bothered anyway)

I wonder if this will work with my Erisin Android head unit.
I don't find the sound to be a problem, so I'm reluctant to do it if there is no gain to be made, or I make things worse.
But an improvement is always good.

It is chipset dependant mate, unless you can find a specific thread where people have tested it, or you're 100% what chipset your HU uses I wouldn't bother because in a "worst case" scenario it could brick the unit.

When I installed my Xtrons unit the sound was terrible, as was the radio reception. When I flashed the unit with a custom ROM by Malaysk, both sound and radio reception were 100% improved..
I quess Xtrons finally looked into whatever Malaysk changed, and made it as they had come-up with an update..

What android version are you using? Do you know what mcu your erisin is?
You’ll not brick your unit.
The update can be reversed aswell so if you did it and didn’t like it then you could always reverse it and roll back to a version without the sound mod.

It’s not xtrons that have done the update. Some individual has just taken it upon himself and figured out how to do it

It's Oreo, but I don't know about the MCU off the top of my head, and I'm not going back out to the car tonight.
I'll look into it closer next week, I have a long weekend away booked and the stereo will be needed for nav etc, so I won't be tinkering before I go.

When you do look into it. If your mcu type isn’t on the list of the ones that has been modified, if you were to put a post on xda asking for your mcu type to be added then I’m sure it would be done as others have requested and had them added on as there are many different types.

I have an Xtrons with Android 8, but I use Poweramp instead of the built-in music player. Would this be an improvement for me or does this work with the music player only?

This will work for you aswell as it improves the actual headunit sound quality so it doesn’t matter what player you’re using

Sounds good. I asked because Poweramp uses its own equaliser. The Amplifier app that comes with the HU isn't in use at all.

Ah right. Well just try it and see what happens. It’s only an mcu update so if you think for whatever reason that it’s made anything worse then you can just revert back to a previous mcu that hasn’t been modded.

You do also get an improved amplifier app to download but obviously I don’t think that would make any difference then if poweramp has its own eq but I’d give it a try as it has more control over the unit compared to the original amplifier app.

Do you know which version of the GS I should use?

I looked into my android settings and it says MTCE_GS_V2.84_3 but the choices on XDA are

MTCE_GS_2.93bd.zip
or
MTCE_GS_2.88bd.zip

Use 2.93.
The higher the number means it is a newer version.

Will this give a sensible sound level for 1, as I find this is too loud for background noise while talking to someone?

Also I need to get rid/disable the silly bose thing of auto adjusting the volume depending on cabin noise....gggrrr

You can lower the volume levels by going into the factory settings

Done the update but nothing noticeable sound wise, although it did sound pretty good before.

I now have 2 amplifier apps though they both seem to share the same settings if that makes sense so whatever adjustments I make in one carries over to the other, is this correct?

What android are you using? I’m sure further up the thread you said you’re using android 7. If so then it will not work as the mod is only for android 6 and android 8.
