Oil inspection service

Inspection service is due in 2300 miles / 30 days and next oil change in 5500/84 days. I will be lucky to do 2300 miles before feb. I never had these separate intervals with the S3 do I have to stick to the 30 days and 80 days to keep the service records in check? What is involved in the inspection and any ideas on a rough price at Audi? Can I wait on the inspection and get them both done in 80 days?

From what I hear, it can be pretty pricey for just an oil change (~£340)

Take it with a pinch of salt as I haven't tried it yet, but apparently Audi will price match Halfords if there's one near the centre. Just go on the website, put in your reg, select interim service and the oil upgrade option, then go to the basket and print that screen. It'll work out around £150 according to @JamesBaby but you might have to shop around for an Audi centre that will agree to it.

Just rang to get both oil service and inspection done at the same time as there only say 7 weeks between the two and it was £511. (Harrogate Audi) Jesus

You shouldn’t have to pay for both, it’s one or the other. Both come with an oil change, it’s just whether you need all the extra bits that come with the interim.

Rang Leeds Audi they said £450 for both then added pollen filter and brake fluid change and came out at £620 car has only done 16k.

So let’s say I go with Harrogate Audi at £511 how can I get this price down, take my own oil for one? Ring around other dealers in area? Do I need a fresh set of plugs at 17k?

New plugs at 19k. In all honesty mate save your money and take the car to a vag specialist. Will not be stripped up in the price and will no doubt be better looked after. Or if your upto it buy the parts from Audi and do it yourself if your planning on keeping the car long term

I normally use my local specialist for servicing or repairs but as this RS3 has warranty until Nov 2019 was hoping to use Audi for servicing. I take it as long as my servicing is done at the correct time and a full run down of parts/oils that are used are documented then warranty will stay intact?

Afaik inspection isn't an oil change it's just Audi having a look around the car! Oil changes are every other service so 2 years or 18k miles ish.

It’s always been my understanding that Inspection is their word for major, this is how Long Life servicing is a scam... you have 2 oil changes in one Longlife cycle if the oil change and interim don’t coincide with one another.

There is no "major" service albeit they do other things mileage dependant eg sparks every 19k, gearbox oil every 38k ish etc.

Maybe changed for the FL although seems unlikely. Mine were every 19k as I had it done twice. Car sold at 41k.

That is my understanding too and that the garage undertaking the work is also vat registered

Might be abit ott but £100 for oil and filter compared to £7k for a new box is piece of mind for me. The Haldex was extremely clean to be fair but for the cost of a litre would do this the same time too.

I'd Halve both of those.

As DW says above the cost and time to do them is minimal vs the piece of mind it provides.........

Even better, just went to book in my granddads 1.4TFSI S-Tronic, lifetime oil... gearbox is a sealed unit they said and they can’t change the oil. Ok.....

Hi From one Dan to another no this was the cost of parts (there abouts)ordered from Tom at Crewe Audi and about 1.5 hrs of my time at another owners place as he had vcds to hook up to the car to monitor the oil temps. The Sealey pump I bought (t800 recommendation) cost about £70 and probably shaved at least 60 minutes of the job.
It’s quite a straightforward job but like anything you have to be methodical.
The Haldex was about £40 1litre of oil and the draper pump I used on this was £12.
I went the extra mile on this and unbolted the precharge pump off the Haldex unit just to check the gauze was not clogged up which it wasn’t. This takes about 60mins all in

The stronic oil did look abit sorry for itself but if it makes you sleep better at night matt go for it mate.

Is £350 about right for oil change and 1st Inspection..been ringing around Audi dealers up to £490 been quoted!!!!!
Audi specialist independent charging around £280 so going with £350 to keep Audi original service history...this is the Facelift car if makes any difference.

Mine was £330 for my facelift a few weeks ago so doesn’t sound far off the mark. That was with a main dealer.

I originally got quoted £330 for my first oil change on my FL by Audi last week.
I got a quote from an Audi specialist for £185.
Just by speaking to my Audi dealership and mentioning the price promise. They said let’s see what we can do. After a few taps on the service computer I got a new price of £215, which I was happy to pay. Well worth mentioning the price match and asking to see what they can do with the price ;o)
