Listers wanted £380 first the first service which basically equated to changing the oil! A lot of dealers will price match local garages if you ask...

At 9k there is an oil change followed by an inspection 9k later then repeat. At 19k spark plugs need doing. At 40k gearbox oil. Etc.

1st oil change service can vary £230-£380
2nd inspection & Oil change can be from £380 - £550

Best to get a few quotes from different dealers.

As TX says 2nd includes spark plugs change.

Haldex oil change is around £80
DSG oil & filter can vary from £175-£250

Just had a called and been quoted £260 for an oil change service, or £410 for an inscection and oil change service... although over the phone my dealer said they couldn’t tell me what service was due until the service light comes on... which I find a bit odd!?

Bought my car a few weeks ago with under 2k miles on it, service light on oil change due - Audi quoted £328.30 for the first oil + filter change and 'inspection' madness.

It’s a load of rubbish.

If the dealer price matches then great but I would rather save the money.

For people who had previously enquired etc... is it worth supplying your own oil? Do you save much that way?

I can get 10L (cheaper than 8L that’s needed) for £70 ish

I tried to do this but out of the 3 Audi specialists all them said if you supply your own oil it invalidates your warranty....
As they can not prove when/what/who it is

That’s a rediculous statement isn’t it... if you supply sealed bottles and even a receipt of needed, then how can they even start to argue!



...the real answer, they’ll probably be making double the mark up on the oil, if not more, and that’s a way of scaring customers into paying

If it’s of any help mate I ordered quantum oil 5w 30 Audi 504/507 spec from eBay for £45 delivered for 10L.

In addition to @Tristan2 question, mine is also coming up for it's first service. Would you guys also get the haldex and gearbox oil changed? I appreciate it only needs doing every 2-3 years IIRC, however, for the sake of £80 and peace of mind, I thinking of doing it. In addition, with the hot weather we were seeing last summer, a lot of people posted photos of oil spewing all over the engine from some pressure release valve...surely this oil needs replacing?!

For my last 2 S3 services I've been able to get a price match from an Audi Specialist so I kept the FASH. Idk how many time I can keep doing it though, that specialist I think recognised me from last time and my Audi dealer said they'd price match this time but its not something they do every time.

This, coming from a main Audi dealer, apprentices would service rs3’s not having a clue. Just another car to Audi.

It wouldnt effect the px value at all, it may effect a private sale (to some people). But if the cars in great condition and visibly well looked after then a full specialist history wouldn’t bother me in the slightest

As there’s no service book to stamp as such now, how would anyone know whether it’s been done by Audi? or another garage?

Or is it only Audi that can properly reset the service light?

I'll be taking mine to Audi.

- I usually get them to price match ok.
- If selling privately then personally I would prefer to see FASH as a buyer and not some specialist who I didn't know (I'd also wonder if the owner cut corners on other costs).
- More chance on Audi covering work as goodwill if maintained by them (this came to my rescue years ago).
- If they mess something up with the service/work then Audi customer service is better than no customer service to resolve things.

However, I do appreciate that a specialist will no doubt do a better job. Although we are only talking an oil change.

Oh, and I should also add that relative to how much the car cost me and how much fuel I put in the f'ing thing, as well as tyres and road tax, service costs are the least of my concerns!

Just to put my view on this debate.

Cast ya mind back to September 2006, We bought a new R53 Mini Cooper S, lovely car, has had its issues over time, but every 2 years off it went to Mini for main dealer service.,2008,2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, all main dealer, brake fluid every 2 year to!

Now, this is all leading to why I am writing this, it's now only done 33000 miles by the way. I noticed a bit of corrosion on the lower seam seal of the tailgate, I enquired on how long the corrosion warranty was, 12 years so I was told, great I thought.

So off to the dealers I go, see the man on the bodyshop desk, tell him got a bit of rust on my Mini I want you to look at! so armed with clipboard and camera off we walk to the carpark. On the way he asked "what year is? " "2006" I say, "O" he says, "Problem" I say.!

We arrive at the car, "OO" he says "thats nice" he looks at the affected area and said "yes thats covered" and then came the questions...
Does it have service history, yes full dealer.
Is the service book all stamped.
How many owners? just my wife I say.
Need to check paint depth to see if there has not been any repairs.

So long story short,BMW agreed a new tailgate, with trims, badges paintwork and both rear quarters blended.
He told me BMW were going to reject it as it was 11 years and 11 months old but when he reeled off all the data on full dealer service history, on time every time, and the overall condition of the car they had no option but to repair it.

So the moral to this story is though you may have a muppet change ya oil now, you may win a whole lot more another day
Just my opinion anyway.
And yes we still have it

That’s an area where concerns me too, loyalty/help from the Audi dealer if needed... you said they were going to reject it as it was 11 years and 11 months old, but the warranty is for 12 years... it stinks how they can say that... it shouldn’t matter where it’s been as long as the works been done on time and correctly, they shouldn’t be able to reject cars in that situation! But as said, it’s just how it is and they’ll find any excuse to wriggle out of warranty work!

Anyone can reset the service light, audi can do a printout to show the service history, or you can phone up and ask

Exactly, as apparently a BMW service includes a body check! yep there's always a loop hole.
Take it to an indy, bang no body check no warranty.

At one point they were just going to grind out the seam fill and paint, as the bodyshop guy said it will see out the 12 year warranty before it reappears again. but as the mileage ,owner, condition all came into my favour.

Not sure this would stand up if you fought them and took it to court, the Block Exemption law forbids this.
If a body check was a part of the manufacturer standards to uphold a part of the warranty, then a specialist which advertises they follow the manufacturer standards to uphold the warranty would be doing it also. Therefore the warranty would legally have to remain in tact regardless of what a dealer said, I have no doubt dealers would try to wriggle out of it, but at a push if you're in the warranty period, and can prove everything had been followed to the letter, they would struggle to avoid paying out. I'm personally going to an indy, I get the value could be affected, but I strongly believe people buying these cars second hand appreciate that an indy service history is more likely someone who cares about who is working on their car rather than someone cutting corners. Corner cutting for me is budget tyres and poor fuel quality (etc)

The whole 'no service book' thing worries me a bit though - I think I'll buy a service book and get them to stamp it anyway - there are loads of blank audi service books on ebay, and I've not done my first service yet.

You get a receipt detailing the service . Not sure why you need a service book . Just keep the receipts . That’s what I do on my vehicles that are all now on line.

The VAG specialist I am using has access to the online service book and can update it in the same way Audi can

So, booked in at my nearest dealer, for £240 for the first service...

I mentioned the price match they advertise and when I said the 4 other quotes they then said that 2 don’t count as they aren’t within 15 mins (ok fair enough) but want written proof that the other two are using genuine Audi parts...

I have this in brief emails from one of the other specialists that’s quoted £150, so hopefully I can get that matched... or at least somewhere close...

The other is Halfords, but unfortunely I can’t see anywhere on their site where it states genuine parts are used!?






...oh yea, and supplying my own oil was a big no no when I questioned that, not policy!

I think got a phone call saying the car is actually set for 2 yearly services so I don’t need one until next year...

That said, I would still rather that car had it’s service that the dash has indicated, and the dealer said they still can’t match the £150, but are willing to drop to their bottom line of £175... all in all I’m happy with that, so a little extra work emailing and calls etc and it’s £65 saved
