Which dealer was this?
Carlisle Audi
Which dealer was this?
Carlisle Audi
Who did you price match them with? Harpers? Or Ben Cross?
Ben Cross Motors... I had emails off them quoting £150 and that they use genuine Audi parts for their services too
Further update on this,
I’ve forwarded on all the info the dealer said was needed for a price match, that was £150
I think got a phone call saying the car is actually set for 2 yearly services so I don’t need one until next year...
That said, I would still rather that car had it’s service that the dash has indicated, and the dealer said they still can’t match the £150, but are willing to drop to their bottom line of £175... all in all I’m happy with that, so a little extra work emailing and calls etc and it’s £65 saved
Sounds like a good result Phil . I do find the frequency of service intervals / inspection a bit of a grey area . Mines 14 months old , called Audi said just wait for the service indicator to come on . Said it was reactive to the oil condition, way that the car had been used . Not sure if that’s true
Everycar leaves the factory on longlife, some dealers set cars to 12 months during their pdi procedure, this is just to increase after sales profits with more work. They should actually ask the customer before they change them to 12 months.
I’m just going to get the quote off them and take it to Audi and see what they say, fingers crossed they can match it.
Fixed servicing shouldn’t be cheaper. As it goes like this.Could argue whether it’s to get more aftersales work or not, fixed interval servicing is far cheaper than ‘longlife’.
Fixed servicing shouldn’t be cheaper. As it goes like this.
Fixed
Year 1 - oil change
Year 2 - oil chance and inspection
Year 3 - oil change
Year 4 - oil change and inspection
And so on
Flexible
Year 1- nothing
Year 2 - oil change and inspection
Year 3 - nothing
Year 4 - oil change and inspection
So fixed will clearly be more expensive over time.
If the cars asking for an oil change after 10k then again in another 6 then the cars either not been set up correctly on flexible servicing or it doesn’t need an oil service on the ‘inspection service’. (2nd one)It’s the price of the services, they are from my experience £100 more expensive a time when you go for the longlife option.
Plus your flexible example never works out that way, the car still asks for an oil change and then an oil change and inspection. The majority of the cars we see when bought approved used or our own will ask for an oil change after 10k, then an inspection and oil change in 6-8k later.
@Callump01 ’s car is the same, asking for an oil change now but within 4k miles will be asking for an inspection and oil change service again!
When we’ve had cars on longlife we have had Audi do the inspection and oil change whether it’s due then or not, they will then reset both service indicators and you will get a 15-18k interval as per the flexible regime.
Anyway it’s all preference and personally I prefer the fixed / shorter intervals with a performance car, I’ve taken it to extremes and having an oil change every 5k. My car is about to have its third oil change next week at 15k with my specialist, Audi did the 10k to keep FASH.

It does of course depend on how many miles you do in a year but fixed oil changes are 10k miles and flexible is between 15-19k.
Yes inspections are hilarious, as all it is is a VHC, which they do for free. The inspection service as you see on the car is an inspection as well as an oil change, hence why it’s a £400+ service. Total rip off the inspection is what it is, a visual inspection of components.
It’s how the computers work it out just like Callum’s, customers think they are on long life and just have the car serviced when it asks and you’re having 2 services in your 2 year / 19k ‘longlife’ service period.
Usually I would agree but depends on the dealer. Reading have some good chief techs. This is my dilemma too … FASH but you've got monkeys working on it vs no FASH but you have experts working on it!
TX,
Usually I would agree but depends on the dealer. Reading have some good chief techs.
I always think its amusing that you all want to save a few quid when you've bought an audi - if that's the case, surprise you didn't buy a cheaper car make instead like a ford/pug/Renault/hyundai
My gripe isn't cost (although it is flucking expensive) it is that people expect FASH which you can only get by letting their trained monkeys work on the car. Perhaps I have ideas above my station but I'd expect RS technicians working on the RS models ...Usually I would agree but depends on the dealer. Reading have some good chief techs.

they offer a price match, so personally think you’re daft if you don’t take advantage of that
I asked Cardiff Audi about this one and they said they don't price match
I've had an issue with the engine coolant disappearing on mine so they offered me £150 off as a good will gesture anyway since it's been back and forth. Works out at ~£300 for it's first service oil change, plus the inspection.
Least you got a bit off it mate... what mileage is yours on? My 1st service is just the oil change
My full service is due about 2000 miles after the oil change is apparently due. As you say, worth just getting the main done.Yeah, better than nothing! I'm just shy of 14k. Inspection isn't due until another 4-5k, but it probably makes sense doing it early whilst I have the money off. Oil change is due in 700 miles though.
Would that not invalidate warranty? You don't HAVE to follow the Audi 'plan.' You can do your own thing and just have, say, a 4-year Audi visit; that way any upgrades will be done, or you'll be advised that they be done, and on you go. 2 to 3 year engine oil and brake fluid change (mileage dependant) for me are a MUST.
Tis a good idea to spend some £s with your Audi dealer along the way - AudiNutta saw the benefit of this on Sunday last...

Maybe D0C, yes; I hadn't thought of that as my cars waved bye bye to warranty a loooong time ago
I now do my own thing...
Book my first service in at Halfords!dude will use genuine parts, log it on the service data base and remove the warning light etc £171,**** paying £340 for a oil and filter change lol
