Facelift RS3 service costs

Who did you price match them with? Harpers? Or Ben Cross?

Ben Cross Motors... I had emails off them quoting £150 and that they use genuine Audi parts for their services too

Further update on this, :tearsofjoy:

I’ve forwarded on all the info the dealer said was needed for a price match, that was £150

I think got a phone call saying the car is actually set for 2 yearly services so I don’t need one until next year...

That said, I would still rather that car had it’s service that the dash has indicated, and the dealer said they still can’t match the £150, but are willing to drop to their bottom line of £175... all in all I’m happy with that, so a little extra work emailing and calls etc and it’s £65 saved

Sounds like a good result Phil . I do find the frequency of service intervals / inspection a bit of a grey area . Mines 14 months old , called Audi said just wait for the service indicator to come on . Said it was reactive to the oil condition, way that the car had been used . Not sure if that’s true .

Mines come on with the 30 day warning after 11 months, so looks like it was just set t so it had an oil change after 1 year... I’ve only done 5,000 miles so surly can’t have anything to do with mileage?!

I was called after a year to book in for a 'health check', car looks to be set on long life when I checked and wasn't due a service so skipped the offer. I only really want to take it to Audi when I need to - in between the Audi service schedule I will get it changed min of every year. I have currently done it at 1500m and then 1yr at around 10k. Will have the DSG and Haldex changed more regular than it recommends by a specialist too.

My FL SB was registered Sep 17 so is now 18 ish months old, it has 8100 miles on it.
I've put 1ltr of helix 0w/30 over the 18month period as per checking oil level every 6months or so.

I've had no MMI indication yet of any impending service required, so I checked the service interval page (last week) on the MMI and it states next service not required till either 170days or 11000 miles, which would take it to a 2yr service.
So I'm on the so called variable service schedule, thats fine by me and I'm happy with Audi telling me via the variable schedule that 2yrs is ok after all they designed built and thoroughly tested the motor accordingly, plus its under warranty till 2022.

I will probably take it to an Audi dealer only for the FASH peace of mind.
However I'll definitely shop around the local audi dealers for best price and might try price matching.

I appreciate some on here will want their motors serviced more regularly.
And there does appear to be people on here with their RS3s telling them they need a service sooner than others, may be the MMI is set differently as i noticed you can change the old service frequency.
Don't think though i believe, as someone suggested, that the car will determine the actual condition of the oil and request a service accordingly.

I think it’s just how they’ve been set from factory... I think most will show 24 months (or according mileage) as that’s what Audi have led me to believe is right for the FL... just looks like some have been set wrongly from the factory

Mines popped up after 12 months and Audi have said it’s a mistake and just to pop on to have it reset... personal choice, I’m more for having at least an oil change every 12 months so it’s going in to have that done too :icon thumright:

^^ that's what I say, service when needed at Audi but no harm in doing an oil change in-between at a specialist - can't go wrong then.

So service is supposed to be 24 months ? Mines just been in this week it’s 12 months old and done 3000 miles ! Never got an indication from Audi that it wasn’t due

Everycar leaves the factory on longlife, some dealers set cars to 12 months during their pdi procedure, this is just to increase after sales profits with more work. They should actually ask the customer before they change them to 12 months.

My first service and inspection was £120 as I said at a local independent. I have the receipt in with the manual so there is proof of it. It doesn’t concern me at all.

No idea when mine will be, I'll check later today but I know when I bought it, they ticked the flexible service schedule. The S3 was on a fixed service schedule which was every year. They printed off the service history and the only thing was the Used car service thing.

Just got quoted £154 from Halfords for a first service oil/filter change,it’s only 10month old and has 4200miles on the clock but the oil change message has come up on the dash. They use genuine Audi parts and doesn’t effect warranty. Audi say they will price match but need the quote in writing with the part number on it.

The problem I found with Halfords is you have to firstly add on the “upgrade oil” option which bumps the price up, and then when I emailed asking if they use genuine Audi parts, they replied saying they use “equivalent” parts

Could argue whether it’s to get more aftersales work or not, fixed interval servicing is far cheaper than ‘longlife’.

I’m just going to get the quote off them and take it to Audi and see what they say, fingers crossed they can match it.

Can only try mate... it’s what I done with a couple of different quotes and they finally lowered their price to a more reasonable one :icon thumright:

Fixed servicing shouldn’t be cheaper. As it goes like this.

Fixed
Year 1 - oil change
Year 2 - oil chance and inspection
Year 3 - oil change
Year 4 - oil change and inspection
And so on

Flexible
Year 1- nothing
Year 2 - oil change and inspection
Year 3 - nothing
Year 4 - oil change and inspection

So fixed will clearly be more expensive over time.

It’s the price of the services, they are from my experience £100 more expensive a time when you go for the longlife option.

Plus your flexible example never works out that way, the car still asks for an oil change and then an oil change and inspection. The majority of the cars we see when bought approved used or our own will ask for an oil change after 10k, then an inspection and oil change in 6-8k later.

@Callump01 ’s car is the same, asking for an oil change now but within 4k miles will be asking for an inspection and oil change service again!

When we’ve had cars on longlife we have had Audi do the inspection and oil change whether it’s due then or not, they will then reset both service indicators and you will get a 15-18k interval as per the flexible regime.

Anyway it’s all preference and personally I prefer the fixed / shorter intervals with a performance car, I’ve taken it to extremes and having an oil change every 5k. My car is about to have its third oil change next week at 15k with my specialist, Audi did the 10k to keep FASH.

If the cars asking for an oil change after 10k then again in another 6 then the cars either not been set up correctly on flexible servicing or it doesn’t need an oil service on the ‘inspection service’. (2nd one)

It does of course depend on how many miles you do in a year but fixed oil changes are 10k miles and flexible is between 15-19k.

The inspection service as you see on the car is an inspection as well as an oil change, hence why it’s a £400+ service. Total rip off the inspection is what it is, a visual inspection of components.

It’s how the computers work it out just like Callum’s, customers think they are on long life and just have the car serviced when it asks and you’re having 2 services in your 2 year / 19k ‘longlife’ service period.

Yes inspections are hilarious, as all it is is a VHC, which they do for free.

This is my dilemma too … FASH but you've got monkeys working on it vs no FASH but you have experts working on it!

TX,
Usually I would agree but depends on the dealer. Reading have some good chief techs.

I always think its amusing that you all want to save a few quid when you've bought an audi - if that's the case, surprise you didn't buy a cheaper car make instead like a ford/pug/Renault/hyundai

Buying a so called “higher brand” then yep you expect to pay a little more... but not to the extent of being ripped off like almost all of the Audi quotes are... they offer a price match, so personally think you’re daft if you don’t take advantage of that

My gripe isn't cost (although it is flucking expensive) it is that people expect FASH which you can only get by letting their trained monkeys work on the car. Perhaps I have ideas above my station but I'd expect RS technicians working on the RS models ...

I asked Cardiff Audi about this one and they said they don't price match :(

I've had an issue with the engine coolant disappearing on mine so they offered me £150 off as a good will gesture anyway since it's been back and forth. Works out at ~£300 for it's first service oil change, plus the inspection.

Least you got a bit off it mate... what mileage is yours on? My 1st service is just the oil change

Yeah, better than nothing! I'm just shy of 14k. Inspection isn't due until another 4-5k, but it probably makes sense doing it early whilst I have the money off. Oil change is due in 700 miles though.

My full service is due about 2000 miles after the oil change is apparently due. As you say, worth just getting the main done.

You don't HAVE to follow the Audi 'plan.' You can do your own thing and just have, say, a 4-year Audi visit; that way any upgrades will be done, or you'll be advised that they be done, and on you go. 2 to 3 year engine oil and brake fluid change (mileage dependant) for me are a MUST.

Tis a good idea to spend some £s with your Audi dealer along the way - AudiNutta saw the benefit of this on Sunday last...

Would that not invalidate warranty?

Maybe D0C, yes; I hadn't thought of that as my cars waved bye bye to warranty a loooong time ago

Yep makes sense in both your cases... I’d be doing the same thing... mines not got as many miles on so leaving the main inspection service another 12 months :icon thumright:

Yes Glenn, BLUEY is "still going strong"; 7+ years now and nothing I'd replace it with just yet... :salute:

I'd be slightly cautious mate. This might be standard salesman cr*p, but I was told when buying my car from Cardiff Audi that if I chose to have it serviced anywhere other than a main dealer, I'd lose a good chunk of value if I came to trade the car back in for something else as the majority of people will want main dealer servicing when buying these types of cars.

Not sure it's worth it in the long run to save a couple of bob personally.

Well I thought this but the woman from Audi said aslong as they record the parts used its fine,I will make sure of all this when I drop it off. She said the next service needs to be done at audi tho
