Hi!

Can anyone confirm the size for the front (in particular!) and rear brake discs for an S6 2016 (16 reg).

I believe thet are 400mm x 38mm on the front. These are the ones that I am struggling to find for my friendly mechanic to fit... I have been given a quote from my local stealer for new front and rear discs and pads - they want £2500 to replace and fit the lot...! I know a good Audi mechanic and good local Bosche garage I trust but they both seem to be finding the correct size without sourcing Audi parts directly tricky! I would be happy for OEM type replacement or something more spicy but not looking to remortgage for them ahha.

Thanks!!

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I’ve never been able to find third party discs for my S7 (same fitment as the S6)

The size you have mentioned is correct, 400x38.

What mileage do you have, why are you changing?

Thanks for the info, that's good to know!

26,000 miles (i've only had the car for 3000 of those tbf). Audi dealer inspected them a few weeks after the PADS lights came on recently, said they were ">80%" worn on front/rear pads. Also said discs were all "lipped" and recommended replacing all of them. Wasn't happy with the price...! So started shopping around to see what after market options were available and talking to local mechanic/garage etc. but yes they have said similar so far - "front disc parts need to come from Audi". Do you think it's likely the discs really need replacing @26000 if they are just "lipped"? They didn't say warped or anything more scary...

Cheers!

Kevin

I was thinking of remapping in a few months (warranty expires etc.) so was considering upgrading for that reason also. I have previously had a remapped S3 and S4 (V6) but not replaced the brakes with anything more interesting before.

I’m at 42k miles and on original discs. I changed to EBC Redstuffs @<10k Miles as the slow speed squeal and brake dust was driving me insane.

I’d be very surprised if your discs need changing given the cars mileage - unless the previous owner was putting the car on the track! My discs are well within spec, and I don’t expect to be changing discs for quite some time (just had a major service and no issues reported)

You will get some wear on the discs, along with some scoring and lipping. That’s all perfectly normal, but unless the discs are below the minimum thickness specification, that’s no reason to put new discs on. You can put new pads (OEM or aftermarket) and use the existing discs. Just ensure they are bedded in.

I’d recommend going to an independent garage for a second opinion.

Rears are 356x22mm
Your indi needs to measure the actual thickness of the disc and compare it to the min thickness printed on the disc itself.
Audi has put the prices of the discs and pads up considerably on the S6 model as they uses to be quite cheap but now they seem to be in RS pricing territory

I thought the 365x22 were for the “wavy” discs only (here) which I don’t believe are even an option for the 2016 S6, unless the OP has a non-standard brake set up?

For brakes look at
https://www.mtecbrakes.com/brake-discs/audi/s7-2012/s7-4-0-quattro-445bhp-07-14-04-18.html
or
https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/ca...portback-4ga-4gf/107352/10132/brake-disc.html

just fitted mtec to my BiTDI the swervice was excellent

Check the code in the boot, you can use that code on autodoc to get the correct size

Thanks for the info!

My local mechanic has ordered the following yellowstuff pads so will be getting those fitted ASAP: https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/audi/s6-c7/4.0-Twin-Turbo-2014-/50621#tab2
I'll let you know how it goes!!

The sites you mention only have rears discs for the S6/S7, no front parts - I spoke to the chap at EBC direct and he said:
"I think the reason that the 400mm seem to be unavailable is once you go over 350-360mm diameter the casting tool costs go up by a dramatic amount and are probably not recoverable with a small quantity of sales on special type models"

So we might not see those for a while...

Hi Guys do any of you have the brake calliper anti squeal shims fitted to your front callipers ?

There are no shims fitted on the front brakes for the S/RS series models.

There are sound deadening discs fitted (stick on) to the back of the pads, which locate in holes within the calliper pistons.

Some people reuse the original stick on discs, or you can purchase new. I’m not aware of any 3rd party discs, OEM from the dealer only.

You can see the stick on discs in the below picture.
