Carista App

I don't think Clarista is good for much these days, you are better off using VCDS.

I received the following reply from Carista support today:

Hey, the start/stop system disable customizations are bit strange on the B9. Because Audi haven't exposed a way to permanently disable it via coding, we use a well-known hack, which gets coded in the car's HVAC ECU. The hack basically "tells" the HVAC to "tell" the start/stop system not to engage. Therefore it stops working after you've turned your HVAC system completely off. See whether the start/stop system will still work while your HVAC is on.

They are suggesting their start/stop hack will only work when the air con/heating is ON. Surely that's a bit pointless as many of us like to drive with our windows partially open (provided its not too hot/cold outside)? To those of you who have successfully managed to deactivate start/stop using the Carista app, can you confirm the start/stop system still kicks in when the cars' air con/heat is OFF?

I don't drive with any windows open at all, perhaps I am unusual then, no answers please.
Does make one wonder about Carista, it could be so good but there seems to be not a lot going on...

Sorry, I should have said "some" :(

I bought a Carista back in April, and still waiting for anything half decent to appear for the FY Q5. Gave up waiting and got a OBDEleven...WAY better!

their latest comment "Thanks for messaging. No, sorry. We have no ETA yet (still busy with Toyota). I don't want to give you false promises because we don't have a clear idea how long it would take to finish with the current work on Toyota."

Looks like a one man band who works on one car at a time

Hello all. Long time reader.

Rather than make a new thread I thought I'd ask in here as it's relevant.

I am struggling to get my ODBeleven to connect to a new MY18 S4 (build week 21).

I get the "make sure your ignition is turned on" message. Then it indicates it's connected but isn't - as nothing works. Basically identical issue to this: //forum.obdeleven.com/thread/849/2016-q7-make-ignition-turned reported in 2016.

Just wondering if anyone else had this and managed to get a workaround or fix for it - it's suggested the B9 isn't compatible?

I've contacted ODB11 anyway as I bought some credits for the mods I wanted.

My Cupra had no issues and I've also used it on a MY18 GTI and a MY17 GTD - so happy the dongle and app itself are ok.

Just a thought: Is the android device connected reliably to the internet while you're trying to do this? Being too far from the router caused me a similar problem.

I was going to say that. What I ended up doing was tether my Chromebook to my iPhone then Carista worked without issue

Thanks for replies.

I'm using a Pixel 2 XL on 4G with full signal so think I'm ok for signal. Also tried it on a Samsung Galaxy and get similar issues.

Currently in discussions/videos with the developer - my initial hunch is a broken or outdated ODB device. The phone's bluetooth signal to the dongle seems to be the issue - it can see it, but never truly connects.

Just been sent an email from Carista to ask me to add to some debug data in order to add me to beta testing.

Apparently they have added new customisations. Typically I’ve been waiting for this and I can’t find the dongle.

Could someone with the dongle and beta software check what these new customisations are before I commit to buying something else that’s going to get lost :thumbs up:

Nice one @TC18, you beat me to it :)
I will dig my dongle out and send the debug data, and update this thread....don't hold me to a quick turnaround, as manic at the moment

This is the email:

Hi there!

We've recently made some improvements on the debug data collection process for Audi MLBevo cars (Audi Q7 2015-, Audi A4 2015-, Audi A5 2015-, Audi Q5 2017-, Audi A7 2017-, Audi A8 2017-, Audi A6 2018-, VW Touareg 2018-, Audi Q8 2018- (also a Lamborghini, a Porsche and a Bentley)).

We would like to ask you to send debug data from your vehicle again so we could test the new implementation. After that, you'll be added to the beta version so you could try out the new customizations that we've implemented.

To send debug data, please follow the instructions from the last item in the link below:

Here you go... Lots of good stuff, I've enabled rear lights with DRLs, G-meter (not yet tested), beep on lock (didn't work as single beep), DRLs via infotainment (not sure where though).

Just been emailed to say that there are new customisations added to the beta.

No idea what they are as I’m working away at the moment. Would be handy if someone could check and update the thread? I’m hoping they have added traffic sign recognition and high beam assist..

Hopefully they have fixed some of the bugs as I couldn’t get the majority of changes to work, only the needle sweep.

I have just emailed Carista to ask for more specific releases notes. I’m not sure they will give them to me as they will want users to update and try it for themselves I would imagine.

I emailed Carista two months ago and they were quick to respond but the message clearly stated that they had other priorities than the A4 B9 platform so I gave up waiting and went with OBD Eleven - despite having to purchase a cheap Android phone (thank goodness we are Apple stalwarts as the Android interface is just awful) - the OBD app has simply achieved the few mods I wanted including seamlessly 'canning' the auto stop-start feature. Thanks to this user friendly app I have an up-to-date VCDS cable which is rapidly becoming redundant and will likely shortly be for sale.

Quick update for anyone interested..

They have now added Traffic Sign Recognition, although the menu is there it isn’t reading any signs. It’s a beta and they’ve only just added it so hopefully a bug fix comes out soon.

High Beam assist has been added, although I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

Lap timer, needle sweep is working.

They haven’t added lane guidance yet. I’m not sure they will though as to use it how it’s attended would require a stalk change out at least.

I enabled the TSR a few days ago, I don't see the menu or anything different on the VC / MMI screen. I've let them know through feedback.

Did you test enabling beeps when locking / unlocking the vehicle? It's enabled and set through Carista but my car doesn't do it. Might have to pop out VCDS to do it and see what's going on

Edit: I googled it, looks like the camera needs to be flashed with VCP for TSR.. Nevermind then.

I haven’t done the beep when locked, il give it a go tomorrow.

Regarding TSR, the menu for it is under the drivers info screen on the VC, where the date and time is, scroll down to the bottom and you’ll see it’s “menu”.

I thought as you enabled it, that it would flash the camera? I’ve provided feedback to them but it’s only beta 2 they’ve only just added TSR so il wait til the next update.

Awesome, thanks.

I don't get that come up for TSR despite enabling all five options, so I think the camera hasn't been "parametised" (that's what I've read on other threads anyway).

I did quickly pop out earlier to see if the High beam assist worked, as I believe that too uses the same camera (could be wrong), that did work correctly, so that’s something at least.

Any update on activating the ‘G’ meter that’s on the RS4?

I only get options for steps 3 to 5 for the TSR. Anybody else’s like that?

TSR menu is coming up on the VC now (haven't made any changes). It's not recognising any speed signs though, nor is it providing any fallback speed limit from the navigation data.

I’m having exactly the same issue. It generates a fault code under ‘body and convenience’.

If you clear the fault codes you should see the other options (if there are any codes at that point. Or try switching the ignition off, locking the doors, and trying again.

I haven't checked for any fault codes, but I suspect I'll likely have the same one as what you've mentioned. If I remember, I'll check in the morning

Seems like I have the same code(s). Could you confirm whether they're the same as yours?

Sorry for the late reply. I was getting both fault codes for the body and convenience at the start. However after clearing them I was only getting the code ending in o7 consistently.

I have never had the driver assist codes. I have reported the codes to Carista. Hopefully there’s an update next week, after that I don’t think il have much need for it after that, as I was only after MBA and TSR.

No worries. I haven't cleared my codes before, so I'll do that and see which ones pop back up. I'll let Carista know I'm having the same issue

I have used the Carista app this morning and have successfully installed the auto high beam and needle sweep. I tried to do the traffic sign recognition( I have the camera on the windscreen) and it said it worked. I get a message on the DIS saying no traffic signs recognised even when driving past signs - any ideas?

I also tried to add the passenger mirror dip but this didn't work - again any suggestions?

Passenger mirror selected with the mirror switch?

Known bug, few of us have the same issue with TSR

I’ve just seen that they have released another beta, hopefully this addresses the TSR.

On a side note, I’d be very careful with what you change in the app, and make sure you remember what you change. I turned a family members start/stop off on a car that isn’t involved in the beta testing. That one simple change stopped the high beams from working, rear wiper and the PDC. The start/stop still worked though. ‘Re—activating’ put the car back to normal but it goes to show how sensitive these things are.

I’m starting to wonder if that’s why my electronic tailgate ‘close and lock’ button has stopped working.

That's really odd, thankfully my stop stop was disabled just fine.

I don't think it will fix TSR but I'll give it a go today. They haven't mentioned TSR being fixed in any of the update emails.

not sure if you need to have the folding mirrors for this to work...?
It can require a additional module, however if you've folding mirrors then the passenger one will dip anyway as this is a standard feature with that option. Always has been the case with the B9...

I've been digging through Erwin for my S4 as I'm fitting the reverse camera. Turns out there was a service message for my vehicle - front camera could have been calibrated incorrectly (regarding temperature ranges) which could cause the TSR to not work. I've downloaded the file and will look at fixing when I have a chance.
