Squeaky Steering

OK, so I hope this is nothing and I'm just being hyper sensitive as I can't contemplate another bill....

I've noticed that there's a bit of a squeak from the steering when doing low speed manoeuvres, parking etc.

Could it be early signs of a power steering issue or just a bit of wd40 required somewhere?

Before I start, I will say I’m in no way mechanically minded, so bear that in mind before taking it as gospel.

I did have some horrible noises on full lock at low speeds coming from my steering on my old A6 C6. I first tried replacing the auxiliary belt, which didn’t fix it, then I replaced the power steering pump and tensioner/pulleys. I think the cause of the noise turned out to be just one of the pulleys that wasn’t turning as freely as it should. Not a huge expense for this work though. The noise I got from mine was a combination of squeaking & grinding though, so it could be different to yours.

Have you check your power steering fluid level?

I'll check power steering fluid level. There's no grinding just a little squeak at certain points in the rotation.

I have the same issue, seems to be coming from the steering wheel boss and only when I turn right. Did you have any luck finding the cause?

Audi know about the Squeaky Steering issue, it's a know fault so if your car is still under warranty then take it back to them to get it fixed.

Any ideas what it is that causes it? Obviously they don't have power steering fluid so that's to be ruled out.

Mine has developed it as well - seems to be between 10-40mph - any faster and it disappears. Definitely coming from the front end of the car and on both sides - it's not at the steering wheel itself though.

Sadly mine has 100K on the clock so out of warranty

Sorry I don't when I rejected one of my C7 in 2016 Audi were working on the fix, and a few days before the rejection went through they told me a fix was available, but never took up the offer so cannot tell you what that fix included.

No, I've not really noticed it recently so it's slipped my mind. No doubt next time I drive I'll hear it.

Just for anyone elses info - this is what I found on Erwin

Two articles relating to steering noise at the front of the car.

The other is the issue of the noise around the slip ring at the steering wheel but in my case that doesn't apply.
