Hi all,

So I have just gotten off the phone with one of the Audi dealerships in South London as I am going in tomorrow to finally place the order on a new A6 and have been told about a few developments:

- The current production range is changing and there will be a Vorsprung (already in the German market) edition coming to the UK, with most of extras included and only available with a “55” engine.

- Some options such as the HD Matrix lights will only be available in the Vorsprung model - a bit disappointing to me as I was after a 45 TFSI and was really keen on the HD Matrix lights.

We didn’t have the chance to discuss in detail on the phone but I’m going in tomorrow and will report back with more detail...

Anyone else heard about this?

He said that we need to cross check the current configurator specs against what the “new range” will have on offer - and specifically said that the HD Matrix will only be in the Vorsprung edition and that’s only a 55 TFSI for the petrol range. I mentioned I had my online configuration printed out already but apparently that needs review.

I’m a bit miffed about possibly losing out on those lights but as I said this was all over a brief phone call, let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Does seem very odd but let’s see what the dealer says. I’ve got the standard matrix leds and they are great. I don’t know what the HDs give you over these but it would need to be an amazing difference to stop me ordering the model I wanted. I’m in a 45 TFSI avant.

The configurator also says that the seat headrests adjust in both height and distance and that is a load of ****** so I wouldn’t be surprised if the configurator is wrong.

Ooh silly me I just remembered I can get the “standard Matrix” lights instead of the HD, and the locking/unlocking “show” that comes with the HD is just a gimmick anyway I think.

There is hope! For the past year or so I’ve been looking closely into first the A4 Avant but opted for an A6 Avant 45TFSI and fingers crossed if the configuration on the specs goes my way at the dealership in I will place the order on the spot.

I can't see the HD matrix lights being withdrawn as an option. They will probably be standard on the Vorsprung Edition (which usually has every optional extra as standard) and remain an option on the rest of the range.

I’m pretty sure when I was at the dealer we looked and standard matrix lights and an HD light and they looked different. What that difference does when illuminated I do not know.

I believe the HD ones have more matrix elements than the normal matrix ones. I'm really happy with the standard matrix ones, but would like to try the HD ones next time. Plus the dynamic front indicators and on/off light show would be a nice bonus.

Wouldn't like to see the RRP on the Vorsprung Edition! Must be heading to the £60k bracket surely?

At the dealership, confirmed MY20 starting production in a few weeks (we’ll see) only with 55 TFSI for petrol. Pricing starts at £67k but has abundant options as standard incl all “packs”, rear wheel steering, HUD, air suspension.

I could not order my BE 45TFSI with the HD Matrix (standard Matrix LED yes) nor with the load area fixing kit, and not with the space saver spare wheel either as that’s been discontinued!

This is correct about the my20 that the configurator will be incorrect for now. If you look at Audi dealerships many are running cost price plus £1 deals to unload their stock of my19 vehicles. I went to one of these yesterday at my local dealership in Eastbourne.
Also with some online car brokers, such as drivethedeal, you cannot yet place any orders for Audi cars. This is a normal occurrence for this time of year...

There is a slight difference in how they look, yes. Main difference is actually the LED DRL design. As for illumination, I think the difference is the number of LEDs used, and somewhere on the Audi website it makes reference that the HD version has variable dipped beam as well.

If you go on the configurator and select/deselect the Matrix options and zoom in on the 360 degree simulation you can easily notice the differences in style.

On another note, order is in for a Tango Red Avant Black Edition 45TFSI, of course pics will be up once delivered, I know the rules ;)

Sorry a little late to this party but hopefully can add what I've heard as well.

I placed an order for a black edition 40tdi avant back in April and the factory still hasn't taken that order because of the MY19 - MY20 change over. I've only heard this week some "provisional" changes and they haven't confirmed that its finalised (this was coming from Audi UK).

I ordered with the tech pack, comfort and sound pack, tour pack, HD Matrix lights, Adaptive wipers and Heads up display.

I was told the Adaptive wipers and heads up display are no longer an option and are only on the new Vorsprung (however they didn't say anything about engines). If they are removing teh HD matrix LED's I'm going to be really annoyed as it seems all they have done is remove stuff! I'm pretty eggy as it is about having to wait over 2months after ordering and still not know what spec I can have or how much it will cost.

Audi UK did say on Tuesday that the configurator should reflecting the MY20 changes, or would be very shortly. When checking today, it still hasn't been. (The S6 will be an option as well).

I'm pretty disappointed with the customer service so far. So much so I actually went into the Merc dealer this week and they let me drive a E300DE Hybrid estate. The dealer was there ready to go when I arrived. They then let me have it for a day yesterday to do my 150 mile commute to see what the economy was like.

In contrast, when I originally test drove an A4, I had to wait 45mins after my appointment time as the salesman previous appointment was overrunning, they didn't have an A6 to try and when the managers one was available 3 weeks later, I said I'll be about 30mins with it and the salesman said "oh I thought it would just be a 5min drive to see what its like" and it took a bit of convincing to let me have it for 30mins.

Hi Dave,

That sounds a bit disappointing with regards to the test drive experience.

Regarding the options, I can confirm HD Matrix is off the table. Please check your PMs.

Well, just to turn this on it's head, I arranged with my local Mercedes dealership to visit a few months ago to talk about the new A Class saloon. Upon arrival I found that the salesperson who I had arranged this with was on his day off, so then they had to rustle up another quickly. I was then informed that there were no saloons in the UK to look at, or even test drive, and none were expected until October 2019. They then offered me a test drive in a grubby 1300cc hatchback but throughout the process not once was I offered any beverage, which I am everytime I visit my local Audi dealership.
So it depends upon what dealership you go to.
As far as the my20 Audi is concerned when a new model comes out it is rare for any manufacturer to pass on information to the dealership until the details are announced in their media releases....

I just remembered that the sales exec told me when I was there that he had to break the bad news to another customer that they couldn’t have 60% of the options he wanted.

I have the full list of changes of the optional extras that have been dropped or made standard to specific trims, feel free to PM me if you are interested.

Can you post them on here? It's relevant to this thread after all :icon thumright:

I too have managed to get hold of a copy of the 2020 A6 options rationalisation document. Quite a few low demand options have either gone or become Vorsprung only options.

According to this the HD matrix lights will be standard on SLine and above, as also will be privacy glass
Happy days

Almost certainly down to the issues of certifying cars for WLTP. Under the rules almost every option has to be independently tested so that the correct co2 figure can be allocated to individual vehicles. If options are rarely taken up then the cost of testing is not justified. In LHD markets they have many more vehicles to spread the cost but not so in RHD markets. Introducing the fully loaded Vorspung model means they only have to test the one vehicle for those that options

Makes sense, when you put it like that. Shame though, as some nice options are going to bite the dust, or be out of our reach - that Vorsprung edition will cost an arm and a leg.

yea it seems that half the options I specified have been removed. I've never known a model year update where the car is actually worse than the previous year

So I had ordered a black edition with the tech pack, comfort and sound pack and touring pack which are staying thankfully. I also specced though HD Matrix LED lights, Heads up display, dimming wing mirrors and adaptive wipers.

The HD Matrix are going to be standard which is 1 plus, all those other things have been moved to the Vorsprung only though. Really pleased I've had to wait over 2 months of the car not being ordered to find out its not going to have half the stuff I ordered on it. At least it will be cheaper I guess. I was contemplating speccing the adaptive dampers after I initially heard the HUD was going. Seen thats gone as well!

Hello there,

New member here. I’ve just ordered the A6 Avant Vorsprung today (55 petrol Quattro s-tronic in vesuvius grey with black mouldings). I’ve asked the dealership to send me the image he printed off to show me so I might be able to post it for you all at some point. The image had a list of the spec included. From memory (not brilliant I admit so don’t quote me quote me ) 21” wheels as standard (not sold on the design myself but hey), HD matrix, adaptive wipers, all the tech packs, city assist pack, all wheel steering, panoramic sun roof, privacy glass, adaptive suspension to name a few. I specced up the S Line beforehand with pretty much everything on it and there’s about 3 things not on the Vorsprung (acoustic glazing, rear side airbags, increased fuel tank capacity).

Wow that's some spec, when are you expecting delivery? Can't wait to see some pics.
Welcome aboard BTW!

Thanks for the welcome. The sales rep (at Warrington Audi) estimated November but he said it could be a bit sooner if there’s a car already in the pipeline and they can grab it for my order.

Sounds amazing @Jules R , looking forward to the pics.

I got my BE from Warrington audi just a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic service from them, and a much better experience than Liverpool Audi where I got my last A6 from.

Yeah, they’re very good at Warrington. I got my current A4 Avant from them. It’s a nice, modern dealership and they always have a good selection of cars in the showroom. The sales rep was saying Audi are wanting to push these Vorsprung editions more as there’s a lot of ‘bespoke’ options on the configurator that customers are not interested in. He said if you want a more or less fully specced car then the Vorsprung is the best option. As another member mentioned above, a few things have been dropped from the 20 spec and they didn’t come up at all on the screen as he was inputting the S Line spec I gave him.

To me this sounds like the ultimate A6 and preferable to an S6 for me.

Update: my car now has a build week assigned for bw 37 that’s in September - looks like after the model shake-up things are moving again.

This sounds like the perfect A6 - wipes the floor with an S6 in my view. Quite expensive though.
Audi's pricing is going up like a rocket. 100k for the new SQ8. You can get the new 911 or a RR SVR for the same.
Oh yes and avoid Liverpool Audi!

Reading through this, it’s kinda strange they’ve retained the music interface in the rear for the Vorsprung edition. I’d have thought that was ‘low uptake’?

Can anyone confirm the list price for the A6 Avant Vorsprung? I assume one engine choice (55TFSI?).

The Vorsprung has now appeared on the Audi UK website with a starting price of 73,330 (!)

The configurator has not been updated yet.
