hi I am wanting too get my google maps working on my Audi looking at a preloaded SIM card does anyone know now much data they use ?
Thanks Ady

It's early days in my ownership, but I went for the 24GB Data only SIM from 3. It lasts 2 years & you can top up if necessary. That cost me about £45 from Amazon and was recommended to me by someone who said it had lasted them long enough.

1 gig per month does me for google earth, on my third 12 month/12gb from 3, cost about £24.

I would also say no more than 1GB a month. I've had a O2 PAYG sim on a couple of cars for the last 3 years and never max out the 12GB yearly allowance

12gb 12 month card from 3 is just the ticket, lasts about 12 months, about to get my 3rd one,

Nice one, ordered a 24gb, so should be good for this car

I can't remember the process, but its fairly intuitive. Just pop it in & follow any instructions.

Yea, a few settings to change on the network provider but nothing major, plenty of setting info out there on google

Haha it wasn’t a dig it should be a pop in but mine needed some settings changed, each network provider needs a slight change to the settings

Apologies if it is a silly question but what are the benefits of adding a sim card? I can access the satnav and audi connect without the use of a sim card.

Google maps overlay and street view, I’m not sure if you get anything’s more or less via a Bluetooth data connection from an Compatible phone as I’m an apple boy

you don't NEED to add a Sim card, as car will use your data from your connected phone. I issue I had is that my iphone is work phone, and they are now restricting data usage, so got a 24GB PAYG sim from 3 and popped it in, just need to ensure it is activated.

Older models can’t use that method. My 2012 bitdi can’t anyway with top MMI. Where as my 2017 Tiguan can use the hotspot off an iPhone.

strange our 2012 bitdi can but its annoying as I get a text every time I connect / disconnect from the car as my phone sim thinks its in a new device

I get the configuration msg and a txt from Vodafone saying it looks like you have swapped your device.

Only does it if I use remote SIM set up. On hands free it's fine but then I have no data on my mmi

Oh you guys are using more data than I imagined. Husband just ordered this three sim for his Volvo that gets you 200mb free a month that I saw on another forum. I hope it's enough. this site said it was ideal for in car use as maps doesn't use much - https://www.tigermobiles.com/blog/three-data-reward-sim/ now I'm not sure. Was hoping to get the same once we have got my new car.

How much data are people here typically using a month?

It all depends on what features you are using and how much driving you do, and how much you leave google earth overview running and at what zoom level, if you only doing less than a miles 500 a month then 200mb could be fine, if you doing thousands then 200MB won't be enough.

When connecting your phone to the car u get 3 options. I'll take a pic.

Doesn't work with my apple work phone

Or dual sim s9 or s10 has to be a single sim phone that allows rsap

S9 + that works
