2008 was pre-facelift so would need a replacement regulator. Remember the battery management moved from it's own module to being on the gateway, and that uses a different signal.

I just changed the regulator on my V6 TDi engine, there were two possible alternators for the V6, one was Bosch and the other was Valeo and I was just able to replace the regulator on my Valeo unit. It could be the Bosch required a full replacement.
this means that i`ll have to get someone to change the alternator and have the new BEM installed and wired at the same time. I`m driving for almost an year with the old BEM and facelift gateway, but im tired of the error codes in engine, can and radio...
Yeah you will need get rid of BEM on the back, run cable From pin2 of your gateway to the battery with new “minus” clamp to pin1. Elsawin will tell you the details but surely you need a single wire from pin2 GW to your boot and take it from there. No wiring change on generator itself. Just a swap.

I did that when i was installing the camera video feed to the head unit, also i have created an adapter harness to plug into the 14 pin old plug of the prefacelift BEM. Just to point that you can tap into the wire on the lower part of A-pillar.

Hi B5Nut, perhaps you could help me out as i am bit out of ideas...i have '09 C6 with a 3G High and have done the retrofit to 3Gp. The unit comes from a Q5 but it was previously installed in an C6.

Unfortunately I cannot remember what the software version of my gateway was, it's been almost 5 years since I did the install. I do know the gateway I used was from a late model Q7 4L.
You need the 5F module in Q7 mode, A6 won't work as that it's for the later C7 model which uses a higher speed can system. The old Q7 4L had 3GP and it basically the same electronics & CAN-BUS as the C6.

after trying different configurations today i have made some progress, as in it all works but the Time and Service Interval which are greyed out and now i am really hitting the wall as i can't seem to be able to find the right configuration within the Green menu for these last 2 features, any suggestions?
Definetely if i put 0 in the carmneuoperation the functions do not show up at all on the MMI, if i set it as i should they show up but greyed out. I can only think that the secret lies within the checking or un-checking it in the cardevicelist and carprotocolswitch, but then when you ad the carbusassignment the list of possible combinations is quite very large....

For the clock to work do the following.
- cardevicelist -> select "clock"
- carprotocollswitch -> "clock" not select
- cardevicelist -> select "clock"

Thanks B5Nut for taking your time to answer, i got it all fully functional now with a combination of checking and uncheking in a few places in the green menu plus carbusassignment.
There is one more thing which i am missing, but i think this is due to the way the newer system work, on the old MMI 3g High i had the option to configure what the onboard computer shows on the IC. On this this MMI 3gp i don't find such an option, have looked in a mates C7 and it doesn't have it, not a big deal since i had everything checked anyways so i have the full info on the IC.

the problem with the incorrectly labeled buttons after the retrofit to 3GP can be sorted by getting an MMI controller unit form a Q7 facelift and swapping the buttons over to the C6 controller, they fit 100% our panel...so i am now looking for one
Good luck with the search. when I was looking at them 4/5 years ago they made strong money and not worth it for a couple of buttons.

Just for reference for people, if you fit 3g high with original prefacelift cluster and gateway 0071 time and measurements units will work, if you have fitted facelift cluster 0071 will not work with above so you need later gateway with BEM on gateway module
First off, thanks to those who have pioneered these retrofits and shared your experiences. I wouldn't have attempted this without it.
I'm in the middle of a 3G to 3G+ retrofit in a 2010 C6. The head unit came from an A8 and everything else is original from my vehicle. I've got it functional but with some issues. I've done everything I could find on the web, but the usual fixes are not working for me. I don't know if these are hardware compatibility issues or software/coding combinations I haven't managed to get just right yet.
My clocks (gauge cluster and MMI screen) do not match and I can't set the time or date on either one. MMI screen shows --:-- and the options to set the time are grayed out.
Basically all settings under the Car menus are grayed out. No amount of fiddling with green menu/VCDS has unlocked any of these. I realize some of them will not be compatible with my vehicle and that's fine. I should at least be able to adjust int/ext lighting, central locking, etc.
My steering wheel controls don't work (except paddles and heated wheel on/off button). I no longer get MMI info at the top of the driver information display on the cluster. I could live without this one, but knowing the capability is there I want to make it work. I can still scroll through the other options with the buttons on the wiper stalk.

Also I got my mmi 3g high fully working with 26 pin gateway, had to deactivate 3g mmi installed option instrument cluster(17) adaptions, wonder if chap above needs to activate it and do opposite to what I done?
As it's 3GP he is fitting he will need the newer gateway. 26Pin one won't work correctly with the 3GP system.
Just been through this tread and the images are no longer loading. This must have happened during the outage last week. I'll see if the admin team can take a look, but I've already change all the links away from photobucket a couple of years back when they started to charge, so moved them to a new site and don't really want to spend the time changing them again.

It should have the 20pin gateway (and does looking at the part number in the scan) however it's not going to have compatible 3GP software installed on it. I used a gateway from a Q7 as the facelift Q7 did have 3GP system installed from factory, and everything worked as it should (steering wheel controls, time, DIS, climate and vehicle settings) Now when I fitted 3GP 4/5 years ago the q7 gateway was the only option to get things working, however someone far more clever than I may have figured out how to update the A6 C6 20pin gateway with compatible 3GP software. But you would need to find the flash file if it exist and then get the tools to flash the gateway.

Sounds like the easiest path would just be to swap in a facelift Q7 gateway. Sidenote, my wife has a 2015 Q7, that’s what started this whole MMI upgrade endeavor...

Not 100% sure on that, but as you already have the 20pin gateway where the BCM is on the gateway so I think you will be OK for that. Remember if you change the gateway every module on the car that has component protection it will be enabled. So you will have to change it with the person/garage that has the ODIS tool.
No turning back now. I have a local tech who can remove CP. This seems to be the answer I’ve been looking for. Thanks so much guys! Off to eBay...

Yes, it needs to be from a FL Q7 so it has the later software, that was why I talked about flashing the gateway to a later version.
Ok, ordered a used gateway from a facelift Q7 and confirmed with my mechanic that they’ll remove protection for me after the swap. Should know something in a couple weeks. Shame the car has just been sitting in the garage most of the past 5 weeks.
So in the meantime I’m trying to figure out my data connection. I bought a generic gsm antenna on eBay and connected it to the back of the head unit but I get the antenna fault in VCDS and “no signal” on the phone settings in MMI. There’s no fakra cable going into the glove box.
There appear to be 3 lines coming from the aerial antenna but I could only see the connectors on two. Blue (GPS) and white (radio?). If the third one is purple (phone) I suspect there’s an amplifier between the sharkfin and head unit. Does anyone know where it’s located on C6? Is this what it looks like?
I’m thinking maybe in the dash next to glove box? I pulled off the side panels inside the tailgate and only found radio and backup cam modules.
I’d like to know if I need to add just a wire from the booster, or if I also need to add the booster plus a line to the sharkfin etc.

I'm hesitant to spend the money on CP removal if I don't yet have the correct hardware/software combo.

End----(Elapsed Time: 02:10, VBatt start/end: 11.7V/11.6V. VIgn 11.7V)-----CP removal has to be done on every module, why did the garage not do that to start with as ODIS has an automated process to remove it from every module. With CP enabled on a lot of the module including the gateway & cluster you have no idea what restrictions are being place on the car.

Hi - just to be clear, I did the gateway swap and some VCDS coding only, on my own. I've not been to the garage yet for CP removal. They said they'll remove it from all modules no problem, I just need to schedule the visit. Thus far they have done all I've requested and offer very good work, just not cheap.
My point was I'd like to be sure CP removal will re-gain control of the settings I'm after. Seems the way to go. Planning to get on their schedule for next week. Hope to report back with some success soon. Thanks again for the assistance and advice!

Actually it depends on the vehicle and the technician. If the vehicle allows it then a "targeted" CP removal is possible, and if the tech is lazy, then they might chose to remove CP on just the module in question. Using a golf MK7 for example you can do the following:
Retrofitted Media System will trigger CP in the 5F - Infotainment Elect and the Gateway would mirror this error. CP removal would behave as follows:
1) CP removal process triggered via Gateway would see the whole vehicle being scanned and every security enabled module processed, gateway, dash, HVAC etc etc
2) CP removal process triggered via the 5F would only process / removal CP from the 5F. The error would then be cleared from the gateway.
Bottom line is if you have Component Protection active on a module then things are not gonna work correctly until its been removed, and the "things" which don't work will be different per module and gateway so for example on an Audi A3 8V BCM the inter lights will not work and instrument lighting will be very dim.
