Tyre wear

Hi,

I am approaching 9k on 20” alloys and tyre wear is nearly down to 4nm on the fronts, thinking of swapping the back with the fronts to even wear out, what’s people opinions on this? Or is it best to wear them down more? What are other people getting out of the wear out of 20” tyres. Many thanks in advance

I have a 50 which has 20" wheels. Worried me seeing your post, tyre wear is fearsome, don't you think ?

I am only at 2k miles so for me so far, so good. If they wear at that rate, I might have to get rid.

Yes they are wearing quicker than I thought, hence try and swap front with back to stretch out the life of all four as may swap it before need replacing.

what make of tyres have folks got on their 20” wheels? Pretty sure some tyres (eg Conti Sport 6) wear out faster than other makes.

Thanks mate. If you're interested in getting almost brand 4 new tyres in 255/40/R20 size (there's a good chance they might be the same Pirelli P Zeros as yours) free of charge, then let me know. I'm picking up my brand new Black Edition A6 in 2 weeks time and the car will come with 255/40/20 tyres. No idea what tyres are fitted yet but I plan on getting the factory fitted ones replaced with Michelin PS 4S's or Goodyear Assy 5's - unless the car comes with one of these already fitted (not very hopeful though). I was planning to just ask the tyre shop to dispose of the originals but might as well just give them to a member here. You would need to pick them up from Inverness, so I don't know if that's too far for you to travel. Otherwise happy to offer them to other members but I'll give you first dibs

Wow, I am definitely interested but actually in hospital at the moment and will be for up to 2 weeks. Could I pay for a courier to come and collect them from you and I would give you something as I don’t expect anything for nothing?

I'm just about to replace the front tyres on my car after 15k miles.

The near side is down to the legal minimum but off side has maybe 1>2 mm left of wear (curious as to that - anybody have any ideas?)

Anyway the car's an A7 55tfsi (so wrong forum I guess), but since the A6 and A7 share the same running gear, thought it worth posting. The tyres are 255/35 R21 (Bridgstone Turanza)

Pirelli, but only done 2000 miles on them so far... and one puncture just outside my house !

Thanks. If its not too much trouble, could you post a photo of the tyre pressure sticker, usually stuck on the inside part of the drivers door?
I think for the standard load on the 255/40/R20 tyres, Audi recommend 41 PSI for the front & 38 PSI for the rear but would be good to get this confirmed by seeing the sticker. I'm pretty sure when i come to collect my A6 next week, the tyre pressures will still be set at factory (transport) level, something like 5o PSI so plan on reducing them before driving off. Otherwise its going to be a very harsh ride lol

I got my facts wrong, I have 245/45 R19 102Y on my A6. So it’s 38 all round. The final letter, a V,W or a Y make a difference. Don’t know what those letters mean( a speed rating?).

That’s correct - they are speed ratings.

It means "Look in the manual". It is the Comfort setting and in the manual it explains that you may need to observe a maximum speed limit and you may expereince lower fuel economy

It means read the manual where they say you can run these pressures with ride settings at ‘comfort ‘ only.
