A3/S3 delivery lead time?

Ordered my new A3 in January with a whole load of options, although I was previously advised i'd be looking at a June delivery, I have been assigned build week 28 which is mid-July, so will be looking at delivery mid-August... Seems like an excessively long wait, but I assume it's down to Covid and resulting backlog? Also the ongoing chip shortage? Luckily for me i'm in no rush currently working from home and can just sell my old car nearer the time.

What are your experience's with the new 8Y lead times? How long did it take if you've already had yours delivered and how long do you have to wait for those of you still waiting?

I know wait times are long atm, but I find 7 months quite extreme and haven't seen many cases of this long a wait yet?

Congrats on the new car. That must mean you had the “fun” of ordering during lockdown?!

I ordered mine in October. I think it was originally booked for build week 1 with delivery eo Jan. but after changing the colour it shifted to build week 4, and it went into build last week. I’m expecting delivery in early March. So I’ve had a 5 month wait, assuming it continues to plan.

I think it varies depending who and how you ordered it. Certain brokers seem to get better build week dates than others.

It is ingolstadt the 8v was built there as well here is a timeline from start to finish my dealer sent me this generic time line yesterday

Mine was ordered the beginning of last week and I have been told it is been built in May with delivery expected end of May into June. I hope it is not delayed any further!

Ordered mine through a leaser 2nd week of November, but only really finalised the papers end of November. Email from the leaser said car is due to be 'ready' end February. Although I've requested to have it delivered / collected end of May. I mean, there's nowhere to go with the car at present during the lockdown, and it gives me 2-3 months to experience a no car life and save few months worth of paying a monthly on something that is only used for the weekly shopping.

What spec did you go for? I wonder if they can find you a similar build at a dealer? That might help you get it a bit sooner if you can compromise on one or two things a few people have gone down this route.

I don't think i've ordered anything too out the norm, it's all pretty standard stuff:

A3 S Line S Tronic, comfort + sound pack, extended ambient lighting, storage pack, flat bottom steering wheel, audi phone pox, high beam assist, electric lumbar support & upgraded diamond cut alloys.​

Ahah, that' a lot of extras though. What i thought standard stuff would be just S line with C&S. Wonder if yours has hit when the chip shortages just happened. Mine I ordered in Nov, but ok, the car is not here yet, but as I ordered before Brexit, they said no changes in tax or prices even though car might arrive in a few months time.

My BW9 order was placed 15th Jan and had a few options also. Seems crazy your BW was so far away, but I guess possibly it could be a delay with S Tronic as likely more to be affected by chip shortages?

my spec was:
- A3 S-Line 1.5 TFSI 6-Speed in Turbo Blue
- Storage Pack
- Comfort and Sound
- Wireless Charger
- Upgraded Alloys

I thought the 8V was built in Gyor in Hungary? That's where mine came from anyway.

I suppose you could think you are felt 'short changed'. Would've been great to have the excitement last a little longer. lol
On another note.... Ask the dealership to fit the Oled's for you or no deal. lol

Enquired today about ordering a S3 hatch comfort and sound with; 19” alloys, led interior park, driver assistance pack, matrix headlights, wireless charging, was told August delivery, which is far too long for me to wait, so I declined

Blimey. I ordered slightly later than you, and was also quoted delivery in Jan. Soon afterwards I was allocated a build week in Jan, which slipped a bit when I made a change to the spec.

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t have a build week by now. Who have you placed your order with (I’m guessing it’s not direct through a dealer)?

They will be lining up to buy your voodoo S3 mate .. I would definitely start to put feelers out asap and get that bidding war going.
and then stipulate they don't get the car until your new car is ready or when it suits you.

Mine's been confirmed today as build week 36 (w/c 5th September)! Ordered at the beginning of February.

I was told by the salesman that there's a chance it could come forward, but I assume there's a summer factory close down to take into account.

Can anyone provide a rough timeline on when I can expect to take delivery of my A3? I have an "unconfirmed" build date of w/c 12th April. They said it won't move by more than 2 weeks either side of that date.

Is it 12-16 weeks delivery from 12th April? That seems really excessive? I'd have thought around 6-8 weeks would be closer to the norm. Is Brexit and Covid having that big an effect?

When I was asking about in Jan, I was told 3 months, in the end I bought an ex-demo (S-Line A3 Saloon, Storage Pack, Matrix, Heated seats, Extended Ambient) which I'm happy with although would have liked the B&O in the C&S pack the saving along with immediate availability changed my mind.

Yeah I thought that the chip shortage might have something to do with it. It seems to be delaying all manufacturers.

Cheers, 6 weeks is what I expected. That's not too bad.

If my car is built w/c 12th April then ideally the car will be with me by the end of May. That works out pretty well with lockdown.
