⚠️ S3 8Y Owners!

Anyone who had an S3 8V FL preferably who now has a S3 8Y can you tell me if your launch feels the same?

I’ve launched my 8Y a few times now and it doesn’t feel right, it feels absolutely nothing like what the 8V did to launch. The **** totally sinks to the floor and it just doesn’t launch hard. Accelerating from a standstill without LC in Dynamic with the foot planted feels like a harder launch.

TC/ESC completely off (press and hold).
Handbrake on (tried it off too).
Dynamic, in S mode on the gearbox.

**** sinks to the floor like it’s bogging down and it makes a whole lot of noise and seems not to go anywhere very quickly.

Cheers

Launched my 8V loads and only picked up the 8Y yesterday so ain’t had chance, I will repost once I’ve had chance to compare

yes please do..just seems to bog down hugely. No wheel spin so I’m not suspecting a Haldex issue but it’s far from similar to the 8V. I can’t even dragy it but as I said, accelerating from a standstill feels harder.

I might get some miles on the clock before I launch it but I’ll get back to you

Ive only done 400 miles in mine so not launched it yet but TBH I've come out a RS3 to this so not expecting much lol

The car launched 9:30 onwards in this review

In some launch videos I’ve seen they don’t seem to hit redline 1st to 2nd but in others they have gone all the way to redline, not sure what’s going on there.

What's your current mileage ? Perhaps there's some "break-in period safeguard" in the ECU or sth.

Guys anyone aware of any extras that can be added with vagcom, I desperately want the star button to activate the drive select but the option has been removed on the MMI

Launched it today as I’ve now got a load of miles on it, personally I love it, it seems more aggressive than the 8V and properly takes off, there’s no delay when you lift off the brake it’s off!!

Hmm something not right with mine then. I’d like to pitch against another 8Y for a comparison but there’s none around here.

Regarding the the TCS you only push it once and it activates Sport mode (for launch).

I just did the same as the 8V, held it down for 5 seconds.

I launched mine in my YouTube video a few times. And used dragy and it did it in 4.6 seconds. Certainly feels as fast as the 8V

My car refuses to launch with the TC in ‘Sport’ mode. This video I’ve recorded starts with it in sports mode, and as you can see it won’t hold the revs. Foot fully down on brake and accel. Won’t fully build the revs and offer the launch until TC fully off.

When I do launch it like this it hesitates and the launch isn’t the ‘wow’ factor I remember from my 8V.

Interesting, mine holds revs while TCS is in sports mode but as soon as I let of the brake it bogs down

done it again and it manages to hold the revs but still bogs down. Launches nothing like the 8V did.

Ok so had a look in the manual, it states TCS should be in sport. Stop start off and auto hold/ hill hold off. Now I've never disabled hill hold in the settings menu so I wonder if it makes a difference

ahhh…could be what seems to be holding it back

Having to switch off hill/auto-hold when there’s no physical button for it seems to be a step backwards compared to the 8V (and the new Golf).

I totally agree as there's room for it on the console and I switch mine off when I put the car in the garage as it's quiet tight and it's easier to just let it creep on the auto box and keep dabbing the brake, whereas if the hill hold comes on you have to touch the accelerator which when I'm trying to do the final adjustment not great.

Fortunately without annoying people my hill hold on/off is in my favourites as I have the 3rd Screen

Just realised my hill hold was off in settings anyway by default so don’t think it’s that for me at least. I turned it off because I realised while it’s on the brake lights stay activated and there’s nothing worse than being behind a car with LED brake lights at night with a wet windscreen being dazzled. Handbrake on for me…

To be fair if I’m clearly going to be stopped for a while I just flick the full handbrake on so it switches the lights out

So you have TCS in sport, SS off, gearbox in S, drive in Dynamic mate ? If all that is correct then it should launch.
Seems to launch sane as the last on.

Ok finally got a video of mine launching. This was actually the best one I’ve felt from the 8Y but it shows how much the suspension sinks to the rear. Sounds like the clutch is slipping big time or is it just me? I also don’t remember the 8V suspension ever sinking that much.

Sounds and looks spot on to me, I remember my S3 sinking just as much TBF

Hi, I’ve never launched mine. The last car I had that I used launch control ended up spending time in BMW having the cracked diff replaced, one V10 M5. As a result I haven’t bothered to read up on the steps to launch the S3. What are the steps to launch the S3?

Hill Hold Assist OFF.
Start/Stop OFF.
Stability Control into Sport
Dynamic Mode
Gearbox in S mode

Place foot on brake pedal firmly and hold, while using the other to accelerate. The revs will build to around 4K, once they settle, release the brake pedal while keeping your accelerator flat to the floor.
